Civic Duty and All That
Well, I was going to put up a voting guide, but Cyro has already posted a good one: http://community.livejournal.com/atlanta/2036550.htmlThe only additions I would make are the Creative Loafing endorsements: http://atlanta.creativeloafing.com/gyrobase/Section?oid=oid%3A5954And the AJC endorsements http://www.ajc.com/news/content/opinion/stories/06generalendorse.htmlWhile I don’t especially agree with either, they do provide two of the best consolidated looks at various candidates and races And, after you’ve voted and then scrubbed the filth of this year’s election from your body, come out to Lenny’s for: An Election Night Party for the Rest of Us Featuring Cowboy Mouth’s Sonia Tetlow, poet/activist Alice Lovelace, Nan Garrett, The Jolly Beggars, Lucky Stray and more Where: Lenny’s (486 Decatur St., Atlanta, GA, www.lennysbar.com) When: 7 – 11 pm, November 7 $5 donation goes to the Georgia Green Party’s efforts to reform and open ballot access in Georgia http://www.accgreens.org/gpga/ | | Monday, November 6th, 2006 | 9:16 am [hdiandrew]

From Paul
Hello My Friends, Fellow Campers, et al, I have been engaged in the fight underground, so you haven't seen nor heard to much from me. The fight goes on! And there are some interesting developments. We did get the 11th circuit Federal Court Decision on our appeal. The city and it's sponsored events now have to abide to all the provisions of the City's Festival Ordinance, including the 90 day ruling of advance application. (We didn't win that part, but now all the corporations have to comply!) Also the court has reaffirmed our right to assemble, with stage and sound, without a permit or notice for up to 90 minutes. We will have to test this in the future. And our attorney gets PAID! Yea! The city has also initiated a Group Assembly permit with only a 15 day notice, which is good for up to 250 people assembled, and sound, stage, music. (L5P has there events under this proviso, once referred to as a "Memorandum of Understanding") Now, I don't know all the details of the parade, but I would like everyone's input on this. You know, "POTHEADS FOR BUSH!" "STOP THE WAR / LEGALIZE HASH IN IRAG & AFGANISTAN!" "LEGALIZE MARIJUANA IN MEXICO & JAMAICA!" YEA, WE COULD GET A LOT OF PRESS (FOR CHEAP!) I AM INVITING ALL GOP MEMBERS TO JOIN US! MAYBE A CAMP PICNIC IN FREEDOM PARK IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE PARADE? WELL, LET'S SEE THOSE RESPONSES AND IDEA COMING IN !!!! I am, etc. Pablo Pothead EDIT: The L5P Halloween parade is 5 pm on Oct. 21 | | Friday, August 18th, 2006 | 4:09 pm [hdiandrew]

I remember what weed is good for ...
From vanadium_77: Alzheimer's disease is the leading cause of dementia among the elderly, and with the ever-increasing size of this population, cases of Alzheimer's disease are expected to triple over the next 50 years. Consequently, the development of treatments that slow or halt the disease progression have become imperative to both improve the quality of life for patients and reduce the health care costs attributable to Alzheimer's disease. Here, we demonstrate that the active component of marijuana, 9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), competitively inhibits the enzyme acetylcholinesterase (AChE) as well as prevents AChE-induced amyloid -peptide (A) aggregation, the key pathological marker of Alzheimer's disease. Computational modeling of the THC-AChE interaction revealed that THC binds in the peripheral anionic site of AChE, the critical region involved in amyloidgenesis. Compared to currently approved drugs prescribed for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease, THC is a considerably superior inhibitor of A aggregation, and this study provides a previously unrecognized molecular mechanism through which cannabinoid molecules may directly impact the progression of this debilitating disease. In short, from another source: La Jolla, CA: THC inhibits the formation of amyloid plaque, the primary marker for Alzheimer's disease (AD), far more effectively than approved medications, according to preclinical data to be published in the journal Molecular Pharmaceutics. Investigators at The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California reported that THC inhibits the enzyme responsible for the aggregation of amyloid plaque in a manner "considerably superior" to approved Alzheimer's drugs such as donepezil and tacrine. Free Movies Jan. 26 Reminder
Spread the word to anyone you know in East Point The GOPLobby has declared 2006 the year of Pot Pride. It will be conducting activities through the year designed to show people that they have no reason to be embarrassed by who they are and what they do. We will keep you notified of these events, and hope that you will help us spread the word. Of course, an equally important cause is ensuring that we are all as educated and informed as we can be. The first event in the year of Pot Pride is “Zombies and Cops at the Starry Night,” a free night of films and fun at the Starry Night Theater in East Point on Thursday, Jan. 26. Join the GOP Lobby and acclaimed zombie filmmaker Parker Davidson (no, he’s not a zombie - he makes films about them) to watch two of his marvelous flicks - "Sometimes" and the zombie spectacular "Still" - as well as “Busted: A Citizen’s Guide to Police Encounters.” In any given police encounter, with a few notable exceptions, a basic knowledge of the Constitution will help protect peoples’ civil rights and improve their chances of driving or walking away safely. Narrated by retired ACLU director Ira Glasser, “Busted” realistically depicts the pressure and confusion of common police encounters. In an entertaining and revealing manner, “Busted” illustrates the right and wrong ways to handle different police encounters and pays special attention to demonstrating how viewers can courteously and confidently refuse police searches. "Busted" was produced by Flex Your Rights, not Parker, and features no zombies. “Busted” can be your best friend when it comes to staying out of jail. While we can’t say that Parker’s films will keep zombies from eating your brains, they will entertain and delight you. So join us Thursday, January 26 at 8 pm, and we’ll make sure you have a fun and informative time demonstrating Pot Pride. Who: The GOP Lobby and Parker Davidson What: “Zombies and Cops at the Starry Night”, an evening of films and fun Where: The Starry Night Theater, 2801 East Point, East Point, Georgia When: 8 pm Thursday, January 26 Why: Because it’s the most fun you can have learning how to stay out of jail How Much: FREE | | Thursday, January 19th, 2006 | 11:46 am [hdiandrew]
