Well, this is a fic I was supposed to have finished months ago but, being the lazy and procrastinating person i am, I have only just managed to finish it :D Never the less, please give it a read and leave me some feedback? Spesh if you're a bit Jack/Liz fan. 0:)

Sorry in advance to the mods if this is too off topic.

I was recently helping a friend who was (like most of us) struggling with getting the formatting right for a post of one of her stories, and I wrote this step by step guide to what I've found is the easiest and quickest way to post stories to LJ while avoiding all those horrible formatting problems, especially if posting to multiple communities. Since she found it helpful I've decided to share it. Feel free to link to this post if you too find it helpful, and let me know what you think!

This step by step guide was written for Bee. My Angel. *huggles*

It shows the easiest ways I've found so far to post stories to LJ and to escape those formatting nightmares. This is especially useful for those suffering from MS Office Word background code nightmares. (if you have 2007,
I feel your pain, I too have been duped into the nightmare) It may seem a little long, but it seems to cut down posting times dramatically. I can now format and post from word 2007, to seven coms in around 20 minutes. This method will also dramatically increase the amount you can fit in one post, as all the background code from word will have been stripped.

Tools Required: notepad, semagic (LJ client which can be found here - make sure you have the latest version), word-processing software.

##### A: QUICK POSTING TO LIVEJOURNAL #####

1: open your story or chapter.

2: Select all (ctrl+A) Copy (ctrl+C)

3: Open notepad (start -> Programs -> accessories -> notepad)

4: Paste (ctrl+V) in your story content

5: Adjust formatting using HTML codes <Center> (italic) (bold) (line break) In LJ the comes out as a double line space. DO NOT USE FOR PARAGRAPHS! SOME JOURNAL LAYOUTS DOUBLE IT AGAIN! USE THE ENTER KEY TWICE) Make line spaces between paragraphs where needed with the enter key. Do not adjust txt wrapping

[ATTENTION:] Tags <*> must be closed </> after the text you want formatting. Line breaks are self closing

6: CHECK YOUR FORMATTING

7: Save the file.

8: select all (ctrl+A) copy (ctrl+C)

9: open semagic

10: go to HTML view (bottom right corner [HTML - WYSIWYG - WEB - WEB])

11: paste (ctrl+V) in your story content

12: Go to Wysiwyg (what you see is what you get) view. (bottom right corner [HTML - WYSIWYG - WEB - WEB])

13: check the layout. Font and colour will adapt to the journal you post to, so DO NOT change that here.

14: Above your story content, write your header.

15: instead of writing author name, click the arrow beside the LJ-User button in the top tool bar. Find your name.

16: instead of writing names in the dedication, repeat above and find their names if they are on your friends list. If not, click the button itself, and type in their LJ username. repeat as required.

17: For distribution, instead of writing com names, click the arrow beside the LJ-com button on the top tool bar. Find the com you want and click. repeat as required.

18: add any personal message you want to the top of the post.

19: decide where you want your Lj cut.

20: click the arrow beside the lj-cut button in the top tool bar.

21: select LJ cut with text.

22: paste or type in the text you want to mark the cut.

23: go to the bottom of the post (or the end of the cut).

24: click the arrow beside the lj-cut button.

25: click LJ-Cut end.

26: put in your subject, and change all your mood, location, music, tags etc settings.

27: go to file (top menu bar)-> save as file. Give the post a name. hit save.

28: go to preview. check the formatting and the cut.(the cut should work if clicked)

29: Close the preview box. do not post yet.

30: Make any changes *THEN SAVE* (file -> Save as file)

31: Preview again if required.

32: Post

33: Go to web(top menu bar) -> recent entries. check formatting in your journal. If changes are required go to "edit past posts" section below

You have now successfully posted your story to your live journal. It should be free from formatting errors.

###### B: MULTIPLE COMS #####

1: Follow steps to 1-32 of "quick post" to your standard journal.

2: change the journal location (the drop down menu below or beside the subject bar, depending on semagic version. by default it will have your LJ username in there to start)

3: Go to File(top menu bar) -> open file

4: preview

5: check location and post

6: repeat 2-5 as required.

You have now successfully posted your story to multiple communities.

##### C: HEADERS FOR MULTI-PART FIC #####

1: follow steps 1-32 of "quick post" for first post in main journal.

2: go to file (top menu bar) -> load draft

3: go to HTML view (bottom right corner [HTML - WYSIWYG - WEB - WEB])

4: highlight header text.

Author: [Unknown LJ tag]

14: go to wysiwyg view (bottom right corner [HTML - WYSIWYG - WEB - WEB])

15: follow steps 18-33 of "quick post" to complete post.

You have now successfully posted the next chapter in your story with an identical header to the last.

##### D: EDIT PAST POSTS #####

So you just posted and spotted a mistake once it was in your journal, or you posted last week, and ten people have left comments about a glaringly obvious error in your chapter. How embarressing. Here's how to put it right.

[ATTENTION:] This only really works for chapters posted in the "quick post" manner above. Chapters copied and pasted straight form word, open office, etc, and posted from semagic or the LJ website using their formatting are very hard to edit.

1: Open Semagic

2: make sure you have the journal location (the drop down menu below the top tool bar or beside the subject bar, depending on semagic version. by default it will have your LJ username in there to start) set to where you posted the erroneous work. (ie. your journal, or a com.)

[ATTENTION] If it's the last post made to that location go to step 3. If it's not the last post go to step 4!!!!!

3: Go to Journal (top menu bar) -> edit last entry and skip steps 4-7.

4: Go to journal (top menu bar) -> view history

5: A box will load. (you may need to set the number of posts to higher than 20 then click "last" or go by date)

6: find your post.

7: click edit

8: make the changes you need to. (if not done in "quick post" style, you will have to search through all the html coding)

9: click preview and check your changes. close preview window, make corrections if needed, and repeat until satisfied.

10: Click post in preview window, or OK in edit window

11: Click close

You have now successfully changed your post.

##### E: EDIT PAST POSTS IN MULTIPLE COMS #####

[ATTENTION:] See warnings for editing past posts.

1: Follow steps 1-9 of "edit past posts". make sure you are in the edit window not the preview window.

2: select all (ctrl+A) copy (ctrl+C)

3: click ok

4: Click close

5: change location (the drop down menu below the top toolbar or beside the subject bar, depending on semagic version. by default it will have your LJ username in there to start) to next place where you need to make *THE SAME* correction.

6: follow steps 3 or 4-7 of "edit past posts"

7: select all (ctrl+A) delete

8: Paste (ctrl+V)

9: click ok.

10: Click close

11: repeat for all locations

You have now successfully changed all your posts.

Raise the Colors RP!

Thought I'd pimp the fantastic PotC RP Raise the Colors! :-) It is set after At Worlds End, so if you haven't seen it, I warn for spoilers right away. Also, mods? If this is not allowed, do delete and I humbly apologize.

I am playing Bootstrap Bill in this here game, under a brilliant writer playing the new Captain. But at the moment, we are alone on the Dutchman. We need more crew! Wanna come join us? :-) Or play another role? There are plenty roles available to fill.

(Many of the players are fanfic-writers, unlike I who started as a roleplayer and nothing else. :-P)

To see what roles are available, go to the Character-list to see what characters are taken, held or available. (You can always challange a hold, of course, but taken is taken. :-) )

Found a role you like? Exellent! Then you just need to get an application together. To see what the mods need in an application, check right here!

As always, to keep everything a smooth sail as possible, there are rules. Those you can read right here. They are not that complicated, I promise. ;-)
