PotBS NDA lift and Open Beta!
It's Official: The NDA is Lifted!

Waiting is never easy, and we’d like to take this time to thank everyone for their patience during this time. Below you will find the latest information on the Pirates of the Burning Sea Open Beta plan, information on the status of the NDA and the status of EU/AU PotBS pre-orders. We’ll update this thread with more information and any potential adjustments to the following plan just as soon as we know more. Read on for more!

PotBS Open Beta:
The first four days of the Pirates of the Burning Sea open beta will be reserved for our invited beta testers and members of the FilePlanet Founders Club. Open Beta is scheduled to begin worldwide on Friday, December 7th, 2007, at which point FilePlanet subscribers can get in. After that it’ll be open for everyone within a week.

You'll find our Open Beta forum here: http://www.burningsea.com/forums/fo...isplay.php?f=60

On December 7th, North American players that aren't currently beta testers will have a chance to give Pirates of the Burning Sea a spin. Please visit this link for download information.

The NDA is Lifted:
Monday, December 3rd signals the end of the Pirates of the Burning Sea Non-Disclosure Agreement. This means that as of today, individuals are welcome to share their Pirates of the Burning Sea experiences with people around the world! We hope you will take this opportunity to draft a blog entry, forum post, or anything else in which you share your experiences as a captain of the Burning Sea.

Regarding Australian and European Pre-Orders
We are still in negotiations with potential partners in Australia and can’t announce anything until a deal is done. This is a very high priority for us and we’ll share the news as soon as we get it. Rest assured that we haven’t forgotten about our Aussie friends!

We will be sharing information specific to European Pre-Orders as soon as we recieve the go-ahead from our partners in the UK. In addition, we are working with our friends at SOE to gather a list of retail locations and will publish that information just as soon as we receive it.

Thank You!
We started our closed beta in December of 2005. As we reach our second year and turn this into an open beta, we want to take a moment to thank you. As our beta veterans can attest, we have come a long, long way together since December of 2005. Even the last six months have seen momentous and continuous (and sometimes controversial!) changes. Your support and feedback throughout all these years has been a tremendous asset and very truly appreciated. We are looking forward to what the future will bring, and we can’t thank you enough for being here with us!

Best,
Aether

Release Date Announced
January 22nd, 2008.

http://www.burningsea.com/page/home

I was really looking forward to playing this game over winter break, but oh well.  Hopefully this date stays solid (all indications so far are that it will) and we get to set sail early 2008.

Also keep in mind that if you get the pre-order box you actually get to start playing on the 5th, two weeks before everyone else.  Oh and you also get a parrot.

Excited for things to come.
I really enjoy the fact that PotBS is letting us submit user created content to be used in game. I can't think of any other MMORPG where this is available so dynamically, at least on this scale.

I'm no graphic designer, but the prospect of getting something submitted to the game that's so personalized really sparked my interest. I fired up the Photoshop and this is what I came up with.

Any suggestions/comments/complaints are always welcome.

Really good dev logs
There's been a few really good devlogs lately. If you're a forum user, you know all about them. If not, you can read them here:

Contract status, and steady on course - Rusty's devlog on the game delay. Also, scroll down to read his previous devlog which discusses the State of the Game, the beta and distribution.

For Brendan's PVP devlogs - Open Sea Spawn Manager. Scroll down for his previous devlog, PvP and Conquest Systems.

Don't forget to check out Booty Island Radio, which is an internet radio station in support of PotBS. I'm doing three shows a week and they're looking for more DJs to join. If you're interested in an on-air or off-air position, go to the Gaming Radio Recruitment page. They're also looking for folks for Weathertop Radio, so if you play LoTRO, drop them a note.

Indirectly related...
but still, this sucks. The Cutty Sark is one of the few really decent relics we have (had?) of the era.

I hope they can afford to restore it.

Tidbit from Rusty about servers
Lots of folks have been asking questions about how the servers will operate; mostly the Europeans. I know many of us who went to WoW also were gutted to find we could not play with our European mates on the same servers.

This is what Rusty said in response to one post:

"Remember all those business things I keep hinting at? Well, here's a whopping change to plan:

We're not licensing the game in Europe. We've decided to operate it ourselves with local assistance (name forthcoming). This means that when you buy the game (via a box or digital download) there won't be any issues with playing against any of the Western servers. We will be operating French and German language-specific servers, and the servers intended for the EU will be physically located there. But you'll be able to
play on any of the servers.

There's a lot more information coming, but I can't talk about it until we have signed contracts. Happily, we're past the LOI phase and we're now in the contract phase, so things are looking good for us to start talking about what we're doing soon."

*gasp* an update!
Hello all!

I know, I've slacked badly as a community mod. Well, this isn't really set up as a place for news; it's always best to get it directly from the official site anyway. However, it would be great if we could get the community jumping, maybe talk about the nations we'll play, our goals for the game. FLS has done an excellent job updating the FAQ and keeping the players informed on the forums. *hugs teh awesome dev team*

If any of you folks are on Tribe.net, I've set up a tribe for PotBS. Come sign up there!

Any any rate, we've got just over 5 months until the game goes live, so we should start posting and getting to know each other. I can keep a list of the player names/countries once we go live and do all sorts of other things if you folks want.

Suggestions? Comments? Pictures of Aether that didn't make it to the official forums?
