On my way to Decompression - looking forward to seeing some of you there!
The tea party went well :) We had Enchanted on.. it was supposed to be in the background but many of us wound up watching it.. and singing along.. sorry ;) Ever After may have also been inflicted at one stage.. hey it was terribly girly!
We did raise some money :) So far it is $63.60 though I haven't put my contribution in yet :) So if anyone is going to see me in the next couple of days please let me know if you want to add to this :) I am going to post it all off soon :)
Thank you to those who were able to come and brought food :D I left my bread and Grapetise behind ;)

There is pink neenish tart filling and biscuit mix for the shells. I will bake them tomorrow but I'm going to have an early night tonight as I've had a very busy day :)
When you see this, post in your own journal with your favorite quote from The Princess Bride. Preferably not "As You Wish" or the Inigo Montoya speech.
"Who ARE you?"
"No one of importance"
"Please...I must know"
"Get used to disappointment"
But there are so very many...it's one of the best movies EVAH for quotable lines.
"That word you keep using. I donna think it means what you think it means..."
"You've made one of the classic blunders of history! The first is never get invovled in a land war in Asia, but the second, only slightly less well-known, is never go in against a Sicilian when DEATH is on the line!"
"Go away, or I'll call the Brute Squad!"
"I'm on the Brute Squad..."

Decided that I needed boot covers to go with my Fabulous Playa Coat™ last month. Went shopping with
hederaivy, from whom I was going to commission them, and couldn't find purple fur for any amount of love or money. Found a vendor online who not only offered them in purple, but makes them in extra large sizes to go around my *&^%$#@! calves. "I need these by 10/10," says I, as I'm having them shipped to my office (my neighborhood is NOT one where you want to leave a package on the doorstep). "No problem," says the vendor, "it usually takes us 1-2 weeks to ship."
This was on 9/19.
I emailed the vendor on Wednesday to say "Um, dude, WTF?" She writes back, saying she'll check the order status and promising that they'll be here by today.
I get another email this morning with a 0100 timestamp. "if you give me your home address I can have them forwarded there instead and they will for sure arrive there by Saturday delivery."
I gave her that address at 11; she has yet to reply. If I don't come home from Faire tomorrow to see
gridlore waiting for me with a box o' fuzzy, I will be...displeased.

Ah, there are so many. But I have to take:
Have fun storming the castle!
Do you think it'll work?
It'd take a miracle.
I have to take it, because the boys say that, or some variation thereof, every time somebody leaves the house. It makes me happy.

Post 10 things that are going right in your life right now. I don't care how small. You're happy with your cup of coffee. You saw a flock of geese flying over. ANYTHING. Things that make you happy. Things that make you smile. No pressure.
It's small and it's simplistic, but maybe for the time you are compiling your list, you'll forget about the bad going on and focus on something good.

- As the folks who follow me on Twitter or Plurk already heard, I got an attagirl from the CFO this morning in our division's weekly huddle.
- A whole bunch of my campmates are coming down this weekend for Decompression on Sunday, and I can't wait to see them all again.
- As Otter put it, "I'm smitten. Thoroughly. Still." *beams at her new-old love*
- I have awesome friends.
- Pizza My Heart for lunch.
- The way my hair positively glows purple in sunlight.
- It's Friday!
- One of the girls who used to work in my department stopped by for a visit this morning.
- Faire tomorrow with
murphymom.
gridlore and I still have a roof over our heads and food on the table.

So what.

You're wondering why I'm not worried? I'm going to give you a little more time to wonder about that. I'm hoping that you will come to the conclusion that if I, who watches the financial markets like other people watch their favourite sports team, am not worried, maybe you shouldn't be either.
*twiddles thumbs*
Are ya there yet?
Good.
Number one: Do you have any money in the Stock Market?
News programs show the Dow Jones Industrial Average and other exchange numbers as part of their business news everyday. But what does that have to do with you? If you have none of your savings in stocks, it really makes no difference what the stock market does. View it as you would an asteroid hitting a distant planet: "Ooooo! Look at the pretty colours!"
Number two: If you have money in the Stock Market, are you compelled to sell now?
If you have individual shares of stock, as long as those businesses don't go out of business, you'll be fine. Don't sell now.
If you have money in a mutual fund that is stock heavy, your fund manager is handling it. He understands the market better than you or I and won't sell out of solid companies just because the price is down. Matter of fact, he's probably buying more of them!
If your retirement savings are in a stock-heavy fund and you're scheduled to retire this year, this may affect you. The simple solution is to stick around a little longer. The fund manager will buy more stock at these low prices, and the market will rise. You can retire when it gets back to where it was (not when the stock market does; when your fund does). It will probably only take until the Spring if he buys smartly. And he's paid to buy smartly.
(By the way, if you're 65 and your financial advisor didn't move you out of a stock-heavy fund into a bond fund ten years ago, fire him. People close to retirement shouldn't have so much risk in their portfolios!)
If you've risked your life savings on penny stocks, more the fool you. If you're playing the stock market like it's a casino or a racetrack, you have to accept the risk of losing everything. Sorry.
Number three: THE STOCK MARKET IS NOT AN ECONOMIC INDICATOR!!!
The US Stock Market has been known to go up in a recession and down in a boom. When I was working in NYC, the stock market used to rise or fall based on what Allan Greenspan had for breakfast on a day when the Fed was meeting to discuss interest rates!
It is NOT an economic indicator. It is a big, spooky animal. Do not look at the stock market and think you see the economy. It simply is not so.
The stock market has been bloated for years. It shouldn't affect you personally, even if you have money there. Don't panic.

Hurrah! our Geddon planning meeting went well tonight :) And I now know that there was enough in the Bal budget to be fully reimbursed for the curtainfabric so I can order my contact lenses :) I'll call in the morning and I should be able to pick them up about Tues/Wednesday being that I have a very easy prescription. This is just to be able to see ;) Nothing more exciting ;)

Even the General knows that you have to talk to your enemies. Maybe the McCain & Palin campaign should listen to him.

And on health care, with McCain's plan... a reporter/blogger asked an Actuary (the people who figure out the various odds of things happening to a person at a certain age that is used in insurance rate figuring), who also happens to be their father.

I wish someone would do similar to Obama's health care plan. I would like to see where the good and bad points are.

Post a picture in the comments of what you think describes me when you think about what/who I am. Give no written explanation though. Just an image.
(Optional) Copy and paste into your own journal and see what others think about you in pictures.
And no, you can't use my Purple Koosh userpic. ;-)

Well the latest New Idea (shhh, no I didn't buy it just randomly flicking through it) has some pink recipies. Actually at least one of them looks good and adaptable :)
Beetroot and ricotta tarts. The original uses filo for the casings but I am thinkign a mix of filo and some with no pastry (it is more like a fritatta I know) would be good.
Anyone up to making these?
I also have some vegetarian jelly that I'm thinking of using to make some very classy rasperby flvoured kellies. Or should I give that to S as she has molds....
