I am calling upon the help of everyone who loves the snail mail! I am hoping to collect as many 6x4 postcards as possible, the theme is 'the self'. the conditions of the project are; the card must be a reflection of yourself (self-portrait) and also contain (seperately) a short defining text about yourself. Help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

(x-posted to a bunch of art related communities)

postofficebox16.com is an art exchange project, aimed at sharing art without pretention or interference.
jump on board. it's super easy. all you have to do is make a postcard sized piece of art, send it in, and you'll get someone else's back. there are no rules to the art, just as long as it is something that inspires you, or makes you feel good, or makes you think about stuff, or makes you jump up and down, or anything. i can be made with pencils and pens and textas or computers or cutting out magazines. Just go CRAZY.
it's pretty easy, just go to postofficebox16.com |

Do any of you know where to get post card backs? I can order them off the Internet, but I hate paying shipping. I've called WalMart and Office Max and they can't seem to grasp the concept of a 4x6 sticky back that you stick to a photograph to make it a post card.
Thank in advance for your help!!! |

| Art Gone Postal! |
|

(x-posted to several communities interested in mail art)
A friend and I recently started a project that may interest some people in this community. After talking many times about how the postal service can be so fascinating in terms of transportation from anywhere on the globe, and how that pertains to art, we came up with a means for creating an online gallery of sorts for mail art. Called The Envelope Collective, we've set up an address to collect mail art from all over the world. Every piece we receive is photo-documented and uploaded to the website daily.
I didn't want to start this project without a more over-reaching goal in mind, and so we plan to document these submissions into a book as well. The proceeds from the book will go towards a charity/charities that benefit the arts in some way. There are several that we have in mind, all of which have different goals; the one I am most fond of uses money donated to buy and deliver art supplies to areas where people don't have the means, such as the Middle East and Africa. If the project continues to grow, we do plan to keep putting out books to help these charities.
So far the response has been amazing, and I can't wait to see where it goes.
Thanks for listening and happy holidays,
Garrett |

Hello to All! My name is Beth and I am working on a project to help out at a nursing care facility near me. My mother works there and enlisted my help. The place is Harborside Westlake, and the people are great! Having been through many nursing home experiences with my grandmothers, I know what they can be like. The staff at Harborside is incredible! The unit I am working with is the Lighthouse unit – for patients with Alzheimer’s and varying forms/levels of dementia. The current project is to create “nostalgia boxes”. Each box will contain different themes for the residents to touch, play with, and reminisce with.
My assignment (and this is where all you lovely people come in) is to collect postcards. From all over the world, of all themes and sizes. Feel free to write a message on the back, or just jot a note that says it’s the “Postcard Box Project”. Send one, send two, send 50 if you are so moved! Old, new, color, black and whites, textured, photographic - Any and all donations will be greatly appreciated.
Please mail them to: Beth Van Tilburg 9161 Crescent Blvd. #202 Broadview Heights, OH 44147
We decided to have them sent to me instead of Harborside for control purposes, and so that no “sticky” fingers find them before they make it to the Lighthouse Unit!
Thank you all! |

Hey, I am from central IL, and have just started getting into this mailart stuff... as my friends describe it... I seem to be into mailing my life away. And that's really what mailart is...sending a little piece of me away to someone else :)
So this isnt really a mailart call...but actually the reverse...I am looking for more people to send my work too..let me know. Please post your addresses or email them to mhutchison@bradley.edu (with some sort of mailart subject line please!). I am trying to get a working correspondence list started and would love for some people to add :)
oh and ask me three questions and i will answer them...a little way to get to know me/you. =D |

Hello! I am new to LiveJournal, but not new to postcard collecting/trading - I have been collecting and trading for about fifteen years and have around 8000 or maybe even more in my collection...I am a postcard famatic!! I am always looking for postcard traders but I'm only looking for postcards from outside the USA and outside Canada. I have many duplicate cards and will gladly send some to anyone who is just starting their collection and not expect anything in return...I only want to trade for foreign cards. If anyone wants to trade cards or if you're interested in getting some of my duplicates to start your collection, please e-mail me at: a_screaming_lamb@yahoo.com OR at LorraineBirch@aol.com Most of the cards I have to offer for trade are from the New England states, Canada, and other US states and a few from other countries. I have very specific likes/dislikes and cards I am searching for, which I'll communicate by e-mail to anyone interested so as not to take up too much space here! :-D Happy Postcards! -Lorelei (my LJ id is: ballykissangel ) |
