Since I'm taking French this summer, I'm working on a faux-amis* page. I'm such a language geek. I realize I never update this website, but I use it for other things such as uploading/showing pictures online, so y'know how that goes.
*Faux-amis false friends (cognates): words that look like words from another language but don't have the same meaning. e.g., the French word "pain" looks like the English word "pain," but it means "bread." Saludos xxoo B-Rad, 6/28/2006

I'm still alive. I've just been busy with college, my friends, and life in general. Party like there's no tomorrow. Myspace is where I am lately. Join the masses! By the way, when I was updating this site, my updates went here, which has always been a free account. You went to my personal journal, which was a paid account when I had the money for it. I took the mailing list down. Spambots keep adding random people's emails. I was also starting to get complaints from people with a certain domain... math.edu something. One person emailed me saying, "I never signed up! Please remove me."
Fucking spambots and spiders. Grr.
So I guess no more mailing list until I can implement one of those human test thingies where you have to type the word you see in a random image in order to sign up. I wasn't using it, anyway.
In other news, my site's 6-year anniversary was yesterday, July 31st. Meh.

| Forums |
[03 Jul 2003|12:27am] |
- All NameZero.com problems have been settled! I'm no longer with that company (thank God). NetworkSolutions.com better be worth my money.
- More style sheet changes have been made. Something is bound to look screwy, so bear with me while I fix things...
- The forum FAQ, rules and regulations are back up and have been updated. Note that most of these things I'm putting up have already been up before in the past, but I took them down to revamp them. This page's only been updated to reflect the new layout.
- I installed a free user forums script, but it was really crappy, so I deleted it. I guess you'll have to deal with my old ezboard until I find something better. It's still around. You can go there (click the link that says "Forums" under Stuff), but be prepared to be bombarded by pop-up ads, unless you're an ezSupporter like me.
- The graphics at the top of all my pages are now included through PHP like the navigation is. Yay.
- All pages have been updated to reflect the new code and encoding (Unicode). That took a long time to do...
- I added "Learn Spanish" to the navigation. I'll try working on a few lessons soon, but I keep jumping ahead of myself. *sigh*
- With the addition of the Learn Spanish section coming soon, I added a forum just for it, so go there if you'd like to chat en español or to get help with your Spanish. I'm minoring in the language, so I can certainly help you out. :-)
- Please report bugs/problems with this site at the Bug Reports Forum.

| Problems with NameZero and Other Junk |
[25 Jun 2003|07:00am] |
- My registrar, NameZero.com, is giving me lots of problems. I've been trying to renew the site for the past month or so, and they aren't doing it. Fucking bastards. Damned if you pay for a site; damned if you don't: a lose-lose situation. WTF is up with the Internet these days? We've got idiots bitching about sites because, Heaven forbid, they have insert_company-related content on them and are therefore awful (which is a really annoying post hoc fallacy there. Who gives a rat's ass if insert_company sucks or not? No one [besides the kids who have nothing constructive to do with their time]. Go try running your own company and see how easy it is, or better yet, *gasp* get
out of the house for once instead of complaining about petty shit that no one cares about, and then go play your little computer games, shut up, and let other people like what they want to like without being ridiculed. Wow, wouldn't that be the day? When pigs fly, as they say). And then we've got bad service from shitty Web hosts. Geez. As Dr. Evil would say, "Throw me a freakin' bone here. Need the info!" /end rant
- The Sonic section's main page is up with nothing on it. It's still under construction. I thought it could use the index page, at least.
- "Today is:" added by the date in the Welcome table. Welcome is now right-aligned like the rest of the titles.
- Home link added to navigation. I also validated some of the HTML to help me to fix any mistakes.
- Each table is now separated into paragraph blocks, so now they don't connect and look better.
- This page is now using the UTF-8 encoding in my attempt to internationalize the site. Please let me know if something isn't showing up because of this change in encoding. Any accents that were on this page should be accommodated for now. Otherwise, they will show up as ? or some other character.
- The meta tags for Pragma/no-cache and generator were taken off. They slowed down the load time.
- Anything else not mentioned was more than likely just code fixes here and there (like making the 404 page actually use the style sheet). Maybe I'll have content again after all...

Earlier today (yesterday, whatever) I worked on the Esperanto translation of my site... so... yeah. I'm not done, but you can view the progress here: http://www.thepageofstuff.com/Esperanto/indekso.php
Some of the grammar/words are off or not even translated, so bare with me. I have to make the copyright info a separate file first, and then I can translate that, and the navigation and top portions as well.
Oh yeah, you probably won't see this updated much on your friends' view because I backdate the entries. They may or may not show up. Wait, I don't backdate them; I just change the date to reflect how it was posted on the site (so it's not going to have the current date + time if it shows up on your friends' view), since this community is here for that purpose: to archive the updates I put on the main page, so yeah.
Enjoy.
Does anyone want posting access? I dunno... maybe I should make this a real community and let you guys post about my site? *shrugs* It's up to you.

| LiveJournal Stuff |
[23 Jun 2003|09:30pm] |
|
Just FYI: I have three LiveJournals. One is personal, which I got for free (before you had to have invite codes) but decided to pay for it because I felt like supporting the programmers ($25 for one year is nothing, people. It's not even a recurring charge — when your year's up, you can choose not to pay again and go back to a free account). The other two are free. One of the free ones is used as an archive for my site updates, and the other I use to practice my Spanish and other languages I've been learning. If you think LJ is "lame," that is your opinion. There is a good and bad side to everything; I've only experienced the good side of LJ and have made many a friend (some to be real life friends come fall), but to each his own, I suppose. Some of you are really biased. So as the old cliché goes, don't knock it 'til you've tried it. :-)

[23 Jun 2003|08:51pm] |
Yeah, if you haven't guessed... today is/was Sonic the Hedgehog's b-day. I just thought I'd mention it since my date script reminded me. :-) I would've forgotten if I didn't see that reminder. Oh yeah, I would've displayed the rômaji in Japanese characters, but my site doesn't support Unicode... yet. I'll work on that at a later date, even though it's very simple. I just need to do it all in one update; it's easier that way.
And now that this update is on the LJ, I can display the Japanese characters. *points to subject* LJ supports Unicode. :-) If you see a bunch of squares, you need to install the Japanese Language Support for Internet Explorer. I don't know about other browsers, though. This google search might help: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=Japanese+support+in+browsers

| Cosmetic Tweaks, Contact, and Playlist |
[16 Jun 2003|09:35am] |
- A few cosmetic changes: the site should look a little better on resolutions higher than 800x600. Captions are smaller (the area where it says .:: Cosmetic Tweaks, Contact, and Playlist ::.), and center tables are at 98% instead of 610 (still hardcoded). I should just incorporate tables into the style sheet...
- I switched back to using PHP. I don't know why I bothered with SSI when I can easily do the same things in PHP with less strain on my server. Durr.
- Contact page added.
- Playlist linked from journal.
- Navigation added to About me page.
- Added "Enter your e-mail address to be notified of site updates..." under Mailing List.
|
|
| Navegación |
[12 Jun 2003|01:14am] |
- I changed all the periods on the navigation table to ·s (·) the other night.
- I added some things to the navigation like my résumé, playlist, and the Spanish version. These are just things I plan on putting up, so they are not there yet. I worked on the Spanish version yesterday, but I'm not done yet. I'm going to Galveston Bay/Island with my friends tomorrow morning, so I don't have much time to update. Blah blah blah. ¡Adiós!

| SSI is the Way to Go |
[10 Jun 2003|06:21am] |
- I tried to figure out a way to put the navigation part of this site in a separate file, so it would be easier for me to update when I put it on all of my pages. I thought about doing it through JavaScript, but I figured not all browsers support that, so why not try something server side? Then after a little googling, I came up with SSI: Server Side Includes (no, not supplemental security income, ha!). Duh! That should satisfy my need. I tested it, and turns out my server supports SSI. W00t! I figured this crap out yesterday (or the night before that... whenever; I have my nights and days mixed up), but I was too lazy to implement it until this morning. Meh.
- Sorry that it's not much, but hey... at least I'm working on _something_. I guess I'll go down the line with the "Other Stuff"; About's already back up, then Abbreviations is next, etc. Or, I might just pick a random page. Ya veremos qué pasa (We'll see what happens).
- Speaking of/in Spanish... Phantasy Star Online: Episode 3 - Card Battle is coming next fall. If you can read Spanish, here's the e-mail I got about it from my friends over at conectaos.com:
[06 Jun 2003|07:33am] |
- The About me page is back up. After all, this site is personal. I fixed its layout (the navigation's not added yet) and added/changed a few things.
- The guest book is now moderated. Entries are hidden until I decide to show them. ;-)

| Don't Be Hatin' |
[05 Jun 2003|12:48pm] |
- Okay, instead of embedding the journal, I just made a link to it. Updates will go here, and past updates will go into the journal, which is free, by the way.
- The entrance page was deleted.
- The date script works again.

Okay, I finally got around to messing with my site again. A few days ago, I took down everything and redid things. Here is what I have so far (June 3rd): —entrance page —entrance page in Spanish —main page
Everything's pretty much self-explanatory, so yeah. Welcome to my site! Long time no see. And what is up with me being cheesy? Sheesh.
