Reminder: The Portus Bookfair is this weekend!

On June 20th, 21st, and 22nd, Barnes & Noble will host a Bookfair benefiting Portus & HP Education Fanon. Every purchase made that day and attributed as a Portus/HPEF purchase will have a portion of the sale donated to Portus/HPEF. You may purchase anything in the store or anything available through the store to have shipped to your home.*
Do you have books, CDs, or DVDs you want to buy? Save your purchase for the above days! When you make a purchase at a participating Barnes & Noble during those days and use the Bookfair voucher or the Portus Bookfair number 310268, a portion of your sale will go back to Portus/HPEF to help us continue our literacy endeavors.
Here’s how you can help…
- Go to any Barnes & Noble and shop for any product you wish to buy, including books, CDs, DVDs, gift product, magazines, and café items.* When you go to the cash registers, give the cashier your Portus voucher or the Portus Bookfair number 310268, and make your purchase. You must have the voucher or Portus Bookfair number to have your purchase count towards the Portus Bookfair. Feel free to use your Barnes & Noble Membership card or Educator Discount card to save on your purchase. Don’t forget to use the voucher/Bookfair number at the Barnes & Noble Café, too! Every purchase counts!
- Call our designated Barnes & Noble host store at 817/472-7559 to make a purchase over the phone. To get your list of product ready for the phone order, you may go to your local Barnes & Noble and make a list of titles and ISBNs (the 10- or 13- digit book number unique to each book) or UPCs (product number unique to CDs and DVDs) you wish to purchase, OR you can browse online at BN.com for your list of titles. Then call the store, ask for the Portus phone order bookseller, and have them place your order. You may use your Barnes & Noble Membership card to save on your purchase. Give the bookseller your shipping address (which must be the same zip code as the billing address), and make your purchase over the phone using your credit card or Barnes & Noble gift card. (You must have the gift card or credit card available and have the security code and billing zip code.) Orders will be shipped directly to you. In addition, if your order is over $25, shipping is free!
For added fun in the DFW metroplex, join HPDFW on Saturday, June 21st at the Parks at Arlington Barnes & Noble for the HPDFW First Birthday Party! Details to come.
As an additional literacy benefit, make a purchase from our Wish List table at the Parks at Arlington location, and donate the book to LIFT, our designated auction charity, to help two organizations at once!
Want to help even more? Forward this information to your friends, family, co-workers, or anyone you think would make a purchase to support Portus and encourage them to make a purchase. Again, anything* available at a Barnes & Noble Bookstore is eligible for the Bookfair.
Please note that only sales made through a participating Barnes & Noble will count towards our Bookfair. Online purchases are NOT eligible for the Bookfair.
Any questions? Please contact our host Bookfair Barnes & Noble at 817-472-7559 or post on the Portus message board, and we will promptly reply. Thank you for your support.
*Gift card and Membership card, as well as magazine subscriptions and textbooks, activation purchases are not eligible for the Bookfair.

All purchases, outside of textbooks, gift cards, and B&N membership cards, will help support future HP Education Fanon events, include PORTUS in Dallas, LEVEL TWO in San Jose, and INFINITUS at the Universal Orlando Resort. All you need to do is tell the cashier the Bookfair number 310268, or provide the voucher upon checkout. Whether you purchase a mocha and a scone in the Cafe or your third copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, a portion of the proceeds will go to help support future HPEF events.
You can also help support the Dallas area charity, LIFT (Literacy Instruction for Texas) by purchasing an item off the LIFT Wish List. Any books purchased for LIFT will be used in providing literacy classes to adults surrounding the Dallas area. LIFT was created to address the critical adult literacy issues in Dallas through programs which are accessible to adults at the lowest levels of literacy. With specialized ESL and Family Literacy programs, LIFT focuses on those who would normally be overlooked or ignored in standard educational initiatives. A child’s educational success is greatly increased by a parent who reads and reads with the child. We all know the joy reading Harry Potter has brought to us. Let’s pass that joy on by making a donation of a book to LIFT. Simply call the Arlington Barnes and Noble store on June 20-22 (817-472-7559) to place an order off of the LIFT wish-list.
If you have a meet up group, and would like to host a meet up at a Barnes & Noble the weekend of June 20-22, please send us an email to pr@portus2008.org.
Please pass along this along to your friends, family, and fellow Harry Potter fans. Anyone can help by purchasing during the Bookfair. This is an event they won't want to miss!

The seasons are changing and spring is upon us! Already, we're less than three months away from Portus and each and every day we're brewing up something new for you all to enjoy this July. In another first for HPEF, Portus is glad to announce its Young Adult Author Reading Series.
Many of us came upon Harry Potter through our love for Young Adult fiction. Whether you are an evolving writer or an avid reader, everyone can appreciate a good story. Join us on the morning of Friday, July 11th and Saturday, July 12th to hear excerpts of original fiction from your Portus peers and revel in the satisfaction of a good story. Meet authors including Rachel Caine, author of the popular Morganville Vampires series. For more information on the Portus YA Reading Series or to find out how YOU can read an excerpt from your original story, check out the feature on the program later in this newsletter.
On another note, our La Esquina Meet & Greet Recap is finally up on YouTube! Click here to see a review of our recent visit with some of the Chairs and Dallas attendees.

As you may have noticed, we recently sent an old Portal rather than the new February edition. Please forgive us. We were a little preoccupied and hope this makes up for it…
The Portus staff has had their lips sealed for the last few months (a very hard thing to do!), but we can no longer keep quiet. It is with the utmost pleasure and greatest honor that we divulge our most guarded secret…
Jim Dale, the voice of Harry Potter, will be joining us this July at Portus in Dallas, Texas! We're more excited than a gaggle of Leprechauns at the Quidditch World Cup!
To celebrate, we are offering a special springtime registration discount for Jim Dale fans. Register by March 15th and use the special promotional code WELUVJIM, and you will receive a regular Portus registration for $180. That's a $40 savings! Imagine all the extras you can add on to your registration with savings like that. *
In 2003, Queen Elizabeth II awarded Mr. Dale the Member of the Order of the British Empire. However, to millions of American and Canadian fans, Mr. Dale is the voice of Harry Potter. Over the past eight years, he has recorded all seven books in the series. He holds three Guinness World Records, the most recent for creating 147 voices for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
For his audiobook narration work, he became the first inductee into the Audio Publishers Hall of Fame and has won a record nine Audie Awards, including "Best Male Narrator 2007." This year he received the 2008 "Best Spoken Word Album for Children" Grammy Award for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. It was his sixth Grammy nomination and second win.
Mr. Dale's accomplishments are not limited to audiobooks. He is an Oscar nominee for the 1966 song "Georgy Girl" and a Tony Award winner for his portrayal of Phineas Taylor Barnum in the Broadway musical Barnum. His extensive portfolio also includes an impressive film and television repertoire. In addition to eleven of the British Carry On films, Mr. Dale starred in the PBS adaptation of Huckleberry Finn, was nominated for a BAFTA Best Newcomer film award for his role in Adolf Hitler-My Part in His Downfall, and of course starred in the beloved Disney film, Pete's Dragon. Presently, he is the acclaimed narrator of the popular television series Pushing Daisies.
Mr. Dale will be delighting us with a presentation and Question and Answer session from 9am to 10:30am on Saturday, July 12th followed by two autograph sessions from 11am to noon and again from 1:30pm to 3:30pm. The presentation and autograph sessions are free to all Portus attendees, so be sure to register today.
