| Contributors needed for a Halloween Crafting book |
[May. 6th, 2008|06:19 pm] |
Hey, Portland area crafters! I hope it's O.K. to post this sort of thing here...
I am in the thick of writing a how-to book on Halloween crafts and am looking for guest contributions from fellow crafters. Contributions can be anything from a photo of a costume, prop or party display that fits into the book's Halloween/horror/dark fantasy/scifi theme, to a full step-by-step tutorial of an appropriate crafting technique.
Sadly, this isn't a paying gig - The publisher's budget doesn't include anything for guest contributors at all -- but I can give each contributor a copy of the book and credit within, including a link to your own crafting website if you've got one. The book will also have a promo website and I'll be including contributor links there as well, so there's definitely a chance for some free publicity.
The catch? I'm in need of contributions right away. As in, within the next two to three weeks! (Yeah.... yikes!)
If you're interested and want to know all the details, please check out my request for contributions post here, or just click to the main page of my LJ and you'll see the post at the top with handy internal links for easy navigation. :-)
Thanks much and I look forward to hearing from anyone who might have some appropriately ghoulish crafts to share!

| knit hat class at twisted |
[Apr. 29th, 2008|10:03 pm] |
hello pdx crafty ones! i just wanted to tell you about this class i'm teaching on sunday at twisted because it's turning out that knitting a hat when spring is finally here (well, just about) is not what most people want to do. but knitting hats is superfun, yeah! i knit them year round, you can't stop me, hats are the best!
so i'm teaching this hat i designed:

twisted listed it as an "intermediate" class, but really i'd call it "adventurous beginner". i think if you know how to do a knit and purl stitch, and you are excited about learning more, i wouldn't have a problem with teaching you this hat. it's much easier than it looks!
the class is on sunday, so if it looks cool to you, sign up right away! i'll be superduper excited to teach you stuff!! |

| crafty book event at Powells - Monday night |
[Apr. 4th, 2008|12:56 pm] |
Hey everyone,
I wanted to announce my upcoming Bead Simple book event at the downtown Powell's Books on Monday night -- if you're free, I hope you can make it over!

I'll show a bunch of the 150 jewelry projects from the book, and my Portland guest designers will be there with their work, too. Plus everyone who comes is invited to make a pair of Solo Earrings to bring home as part of a little jewelry 101 demo -- I'll bring pliers, supplies, and a big stash of vintage beads from my collection (like these sparklers) for people to use.

Please pass the word on to friends and crafty types and I hope to see you next week! :)
Bead Simple event at Powell's (upstairs in the Basil Hayward Gallery) 1005 W. Burnside St., downtown Portland Monday, April 7 at 7:30 pm |

| Help With Snaps |
[Feb. 3rd, 2008|10:26 am] |
|
Do any of you crafty people out there have any tricks or tips on how to attach snaps to fabric? I bought a set of snaps that come with a little blue thingy that helps line the snaps up correctly, then you're supposed to bang it with a hammer a few times to attach the snaps. Every time I do this, though, the snaps never really attach firmly enough. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to buy a better snap attachment tool? Any help would be greatly appreciated :) |

They can be sewn, beaded, sculpted, drawn, painted, collaged, etc. If you are interested in checking out an ATC swap, one is taking place this Monday, January 21st from 6-8 p.m. at the Revive Espresso and Coffeehouse located at 1323 N.W. 23rd Ave. No need to RSVP or anything, just show up and have fun. You can bring as many cards as you find time to produce. If you don't have time to make cards, but would like to come and check things out, that's great too! |
