I know this might be a long shot, but I'm trying to give proper credit for all of my icons, and I have a few that have been sitting on my computer for years/that friends have sent me in the past. I have no idea who made them, but I'm hoping that either the icon maker or someone who knows is in this community. I'm sure these were posted here some time ago.

| | chipper | ] | Hello all! I want to introduce myself first... I'm 26 years old and from Delaware. I've never really played a video game my whole life, except for the Sims, and bits of Pokemon and Animal Crossing. But I saw Portal, and I was told I'd like it. It did make me a little sick so I could only play 30 min at a time, but I beat it, and it was probably the first game I've ever beaten. So yay!
But this inspired me to make a cake. I was promised cake, and I'd be d*mned if I didn't get it!
So here it is. It's mostly vegan, with the exception of the fish-shaped crackers. Which, as you understand, are necessary. I also didn't have whipped cream or vanilla frosting to put under the cherries, and no candles. But it's close enough!

I don’t feel like typing all the exact ingredients, but the cake is basically cocoa powder, 2 bottles of maple syrup, whole wheat pastry flour plus regular flour, and soy milk. The icing is a regular buttercream icing, with coconut milk substituted for soy milk. Since the original recipe calls for coconut pecan icing. I made 3 layers, icing in-between each. I pressed sliced almonds into the cake, and plopped maraschino cherries and fish-shaped chocolate crackers on top. Unfortunately, I had used all of my confectioner’s sugar on the chocolate icing, and accidentally poured out the rest of my coconut milk before realizing I had to make some sort of whipped cream/white icing to hold on the cherries. So I compromised and smooshed the cherries into the cake.
The cake itself probably weighs about 5 lbs, and does not travel well. It’s very moist, and won’t allow me to wrap it in any way, so I’m hoping my two hungry boy roommates will make do with the cake ASAP. Basically “Hey, Portal cake in the fridge!” will be sufficient enough to get it eaten. Myself, I do not like chocolate cake nearly *this* much.
Let me know what you think! |

| | "Supermassive Black Hole [Acapella]" Muse | ] | Dear Ellen,
Hello! My name is Amanda and I'm sweet sixteen. I'm planning on going off into either acting/dancing or graphic design in a couple of years. I know you are probably getting pounded with fan mail left and right, but I just wanted to say how amazing you were in the Orange Box collection. Your many voices filled the atmosphere of each game, especially Portal.
Oh yes, I'm going to talk about Portal now. :D Ahaha. For the longest time, I never really had a favorite female video game character. My favorites were usually Gordon Freeman from Half Life, Spyro from Spyro the Dragon or Master Chief from Halo. But, when I was introduced to Portal by my brother, I found the perfect female video game character. The way you acted out GLaDOS was absolutely amazing. From the evil chuckles and hilarious lines to the anthem that is sung by tons of Portal geeks like I am, you made GLaDOS a memorable character and a great companion/enemy in the game Portal. "Still Alive" was downright adorable and a great way to end a epic adventure. I heard a bit of your opera in the commentary & I wish I could hear more of the opera as well!
I really hope you are continuing your voice acting journey or I get to hear your opera someday. You are an amazing woman in the video gaming world and I wish you all the luck in the future. :D
A dear fan, Amanda
PS: Oh! I dressed up as GLaDOS for Halloween. It took me a month to make but it was well worth it. Here is just some photos of it. :P
------------------
Hello Amanda, Thank you so much for your very friendly and encouraging letter. I will be sending the photos along to my friends at Valve so that they can see your wonderful costume-homage to Portal and GlaDOS. I love being an actor, so does my husband, John Patrick Lowrie, who also voiced characters in the other Orange Box games. Good Luck with your career in the Arts! "Follow your bliss" (Joseph Campbell)
Gratefully, Ellen McLain

This was indeed a triumph. <33333333

[Random unimportant note: I just noticed that for two years, a event involving Portal happens on my birthday. These shirts were available to purchase on April Fools Day. & So did the release of "Still Alive" for Rock Band a year before. Aha. Cool. :P]
Edit: IT'S FAKE. :[ Gaaaah... I've been fooled! |

| Portal Cookies! |
[Jan. 10th, 2009|05:37 pm] |
Made some cake cookies for my birthday using the recipe here. I used chocolate chip instead of sugar though. They came out very delicious and moist! Unfortunately I had to rush them so I could get ready, so they don't look as good as I wanted, but they were fun!

| | Tales of Symphonia OP (I think) | ] | Hey everyone.New to this community, long time Portal fan.Beat it a few months ago, didn't realize to check Livejournal for a Portal community :/ I have it for the PC(but my computer is too old to run it),so I borrowed my uncles ps3(trust that over my cousin's 360,that thing might eat up my precious Orange Box).Wish I found this community earlier,my friends are starting to think I'm weird...
Well,on to the important stuff.Anyone have the game script?Don't really want to beat the game again to get it...(not looking to do anything illegal,I just like to quote stuff from there :P) |
