worst compilation of all time?
Did. Not. Need. So early in the morning.

Radio 1. Established 1967. Compilation album of exclusive covers to
celebrate the station's anniversary.

October 1st 2007 sees the release of Radio 1. Established 1967, a
compilation celebrating the 40th anniversary of Radio 1, which first
broadcast on 30th September 1967. The album will be released through
Universal.

Unique, in terms of most compilations, the album gathers together a
series of 40 cover versions by contemporary artists, each one taken
from one of the forty years Radio 1 has been on air. Included is a
cover version by The Kaiser Chiefs of the very first track played on
the station, Flowers In The Rain by The Move.

The forty tracks included are totally exclusive and recorded
specifically for this album. They have not previously been available
elsewhere.

The full tracklisting is as follows:

Launched in 1967, as a direct response to the growing popularity of
offshore pirate stations such as Radio Caroline, Radio 1 set out to
appealtoa younger audience which previously hadn't been catered for
by the BBC. The first DJ to broadcast on Radio 1 was Tony Blackburn and
the station's initial DJ line-up included the likes of Terry Wogan,
Kenny Everett, Jimmy Young and Ed Stewart.

Throughout its 40 year history the station has continued its remit of
bringing new music to its young listenership. DJs such as Steve Lamacq,
Westwood, Trevor Nelson, Zane Lowe, Pete Tong and John Peel, have all
played a major part in providing an outlet for fresh and exciting
contemporary music.</lj>

"Unique, in terms of most compilations" - this phrase annoys me far more than it should.

Apt, given that they're both one hit wonders.

I like the sound of:

1974 – Band On The Run (Wings) covered by Foo Fighters
1975 – Love Is The Drug (Roxy Music) covered by Kylie

My God, there are some terrifying prospects on there. Potentially intriguing ones:

1971 – Your Song (Elton John) covered by The Streets
1974 – Band On The Run (Wings) covered by Foo Fighters
1975 – Love Is The Drug (Roxy Music) covered by Kylie
1996 – No Diggity (Blackstreet) covered by Klaxons

There are no words for this though:

1990 – Englishman In New York (Sting) covered by Razorlight

You know, I think I might have to download this just so I can spend a few hours marvelling at EXACTLY HOW SHIT IT IS.

Genuinely want to hear:
A Town Called Malice by McFly
Love Is The Drug by Kylie (this will surely be awesome)
Hard-Fi covering Britney (sorry world!)

Genuinely DO NOT WANT to hear:
Everything else but especially the bits with The Fratellis, James Morrison and motherfucking MIKA covering the motherfucking POLICE ARGH NO.

Really, whoever organised this should be dragged out into the street and garotted with it. What a load of utterly awful, totally transient wank. Will even a tenth of these artists be around in three years? My arse they will, etc.

I rly, rly hope I can get Fraser from (Radio 1) Chartblog to let us write something slagging it all off. We seem to get away with this due to three and a half teenagers reading the blog.
