 | 12:34 pm - Round-up * Rumours of the original Sugababes line-up getting back together have been quoshed, but would Keisha, Siobhan and Mutya benefit from the addition of Little Boots as 'the blonde one'? Er...
* You have until tomorrow (Friday) lunchtime to vote in Heat #3 of 2003 (and to pick your best new track to earn an extra tick in Heat #4). It's pretty close at the moment for 4th/5th place!
* New Roisin Murphy single is definitely on the WTF side of things musically (i.e. it sounds like Art Of Noise) and lyrically (err well yes um, best not sing it in front of your Mum, like). Also it features an even more ridiculous guitar solo than 'Russian Roulette'.

 | 09:52 am - fought my way to front of class, to get the best view of her painfully specific tag radio Recently, I have been reminded that Busted's What I Go To School For exists in the world. This has given me a new idea for a Spotify playlist - requited love for a teacher. Current tracklisting is : Busted – What I Go To School For Gym Class Heroes – Scandalous Scholastics so not a lot, and last.fm isn't helping me. But I am sure there are more, which is why I made an open playlist. Can you help me with this project?

 | 11:45 am - Best Song of 2003: Heat #3 Massive shock and horror in heat #2 as... ok never mind, Beyonce, Justin & Electric Six are all comfortably through. Evanescence and Blu/Sean whizz past the Frank Fergusons to get the last two spots.
Perhaps we'll have an upset in today's heat instead - will Outkast bear the brunt of the 2003 ubiquity tick fatigue? Let's find out!

 | 06:16 pm - Album roundup So seeing as it's practically November now, let's talk POPTIMIST ESSENTIALS. Or in other words put: what albums will it be beneficial to have heard once year-end polling season rolls around again?
(I'm especially keen to hear about any albums that came out between abt midsummer and the end of September, because that time really struck me as a POP BLACK HOLE. Mind, that may well have been because I spent that time period buried up to my ears in obscurist electronic bobbins, rather than an actual lack of Big Albums...)

On to heat #2, in which the wailing/gnashing of teeth may rise to new heights. But only five can go through, and it's up to you lot to pick which ones! Choose wisely, o Poptimists...

 | 12:34 pm - 2003: Nominations so far We're up to 291 nominations for 2003 (plus a few tentative ones I've not yet included) - you've got until Monday evening to add your own to the list below:
( 2003 nominations so far )
Please give your nominations on the original post, not this one, otherwise your nomination might get missed! As usual now is a good opportunity to point out any egregious errors I've committed above (I've not finished checking all the non-charters yet so errors may well be present!).
Reminder 1: the 2002 Second Chance Saloon's doors are still open for you to rectify those cruel decisions - will Kylie nobble N*Sync for the runner-up spot?
Reminder 2: next Friday 30th is Halloween Poptimism! Costumes not mandatory but awesome pop music and smashing dudes most definitely are! Odds on myself and atommickbrane attempting spontaneous choreography to 'Everybody (Backstreet's Back)' currently = EVENS. See you there!

 | 01:36 pm - Factory Records Discussion on another LJ reminded me that we've not talked about the X Factor yet this year on Poptimists. This seems remiss, since it'll produce at least one enormous hit before 2009's end and - if it does it's job - a viable pop star for a couple years' more.
Also I have actually been watching this year and I'm too ashamed to Twitter about it. We're down to 10 contestants which seems acceptably POLL-sized to me. Kandy Rain's bold attempt at UK ho'n'B was first out, and last weekend that ridiculous kid in the hat was rightly removed. So who's left? And - from our point of view - who might actually make good pop records (as good as "Bad Boys" say, let's not aim too high)? You may have as many ticks as you want.

| 07:58 pm - Best Song of 2002 - Second Chance Saloon Feeling the need to right some wrongs in the year just gone?
Please find enclosed 58 songs worthy of a Second Chance(TM), chosen by a rigorous process of statistical elimination, viz. I just let through everything that got at least seven votes in its heat. This was necessary because a lot of stuff in each heat tied at 7 votes and it was easier to just let them all in.
I'll be following along with Kat's new evil dictum and enforcing a limit of SIX ticks only, please. The top five will head into a little final, which I'll probably run on, oooh, Monday? Monday sounds good.
The (frankly TOO LONG) poll itself beneath the following GIGA-LJ-CUT:
( I'm my own worst enemy... )
Yikes.
EDIT: 49 of these 58 songs can be heard on Spotify with this handy-dandy playlist: http://open.spotify.com/user/meserach/playlist/1ga7mZnRs7Nox7CVrW2myp
