Community Posting Rules
Meta: Please try to keep your meta day questions general enough so that everyone, regardless of which band or boy (or girl) is their favorite, can participate. This is not to say that if you're not the Official Meta Instigator for the week that you can't post about canon-related discussion or news-related items. However, the official weekly meta post should be a more general fandom meta post. For example:
General meta post: MPREG, feminist or misogynist?
News/Canon discussion post: Will JC ever find a label?
Feel free to write full-blown meta opinion essays, or to simply pose a meta discussion question to the community.
Footage: If someone is awesome enough to upload a piece of footage, COMMENT IF YOU TAKE IT. Remember: be polite. If someone gives you something, say thank you. Please.
Fic Discussion:
1) Want to lead a discussion of a specific fic? Awesome. Post a link to the fic in question and suggest some general discussion questions, or pose more specific questions about themes presented in the fic. Keep in mind that fic discussion is NOT workshopping. Fic discussion should talk about the themes or issues brought up by the fic, what you liked/didn't like about it, or characterizations, and NOT the quality of the writing. If you want to discuss RandomAuthor69's fic and she didn't offer up her work for criticism, that's fine, but please keep the discussion to the substance of the fic rather than the quality or your opinions thereof. That's what leaving feedback is for.
2) That said, if you are a writer and want to have your own finished fic critiqued, that is totally awesome, too. Just post a link to your story and (optionally) some aspects of the fic you're particularly keen to hear people's thoughts on. If you are commenting on a critique request, please feel free to discuss the quality of the story, but please keep your comments specific, constructive, and polite.
Workshopping: If you are struggling with a WIP at any stage (from vaguely conceived ideas to a draft that needs a little polishing) then please post whatever you have straight to the community under a cut, and ask for whatever help you feel you need. If you're taking part in a workshop on someone else's fic, please remember to keep any negative comments specific, constructive and polite.
Theme Weeks: The third week of each month will be theme week! If you're feeling very motivated and special, you can volunteer to take over the official task posts for the week with the theme of your choosing. For example a theme can be a fic subgenre (mpreg, genderfuck, crack), a specific era/tour/album, a specific pairing, a specific boybander, a kink (bondage week!), or even something more nebulous, like "boys are crazy." During theme weeks, the meta post may be group, pairing, or character specific.
If you don't want to be responsible for the entire week, you can still suggest a theme and we will attempt to find volunteers to fill the days.
Fic Recs: Feel free to make a themed rec post (ie Hooker fics) or a post of fics you just think are good. Then ask the rest of the community for their suggestions! When making recs, you must provide working links to the fics you are suggesting. That includes if you are commenting to a rec post with your own suggestions. There is nothing more frustrating than hearing how awesome a fic is and not being able to read it. Also, SELF-PIMPING IS AWESOME. Do it. Be shameless.
More About Pimping:
1) You can pimp your own fic as part of a recs post as long as you are also reccing other fics
2) You can pimp your own fic in a comment to recs post as long as it fits the theme of the original post
3) We would be happy to pimp new communities or challenges! In an effort to keep this from becoming an announcement community, though, please contact a mod to get permission before pimping.
Picspams: Make sure to put your picspams beneath an lj-cut. If you don't know how to make an lj-cut, it goes like so: < lj-cut text="Your clever text designating the cut here." > But without the spaces between the < and >. You may put one picture of less than 400 by 400 pixels before the cut, but please make sure your teaser pic is safe for work.
Feedback Weekends: Each Saturday, a feedback challenge will be posted. You will have until the following Sunday to complete the challenge. We are not going to check up to see if you actually left feedback because we are not the fandom police, but there will be a ticky box poll for you to complete when you've done it. The person at the end of 3 months who has the most completed challenges will be named the winner, and will receive a fabulous prize!
Sunday Swag Swap: The last Sunday of the month will be designated official swag swap day! There will be a post on that day for members to comment to with offers of swag they would like to get rid of. Then it's up to you to make deals amongst yourselves. The only rule is: this isn't eBay, don't try to sell your shit here.
Other Stuff: At any time, feel free to post anything pop fandom-related. Things that would be awesome to post:
+primers
+picpspams
+recs
+canon/news discussion
+footage
+links to canon resources you've created
+concert reviews
+media/awards show reviews (ie, VMAs, NSYNC Live from MSG, BSB Around the World, etc)
+random silliness ie Why is Justin so awesome?? When will JC grow out his damn hair?? How do AJ's hips MOVE like that??
+music/song reviews
Things Not to Post:
+Cut & Pasted news articles with no analysis/thoughts (that's what
ontdnsyncfans and so on are for)
+Announcements of new fic (that's what
shinyandnew is for)
+Absolutely NO HATERATION. Any post that is perceived to be hateful towards a group, individual, or community member will be deleted and its author will be banned.
