These are the slickest things I've ever seen the boys in. OMG fashiongasm.

(lol, amazing)

I REALLY LOVE THESE OUTFITS. The gold buttons at the cuffs are an amaaaaaaaaazing touch. The only thing I have a slight qualm with is the four front buttons -- those shouldn't be gold because now the buttons are really noticeable and makes it the suit jacket look like a peacoat. But it's not too big a deal and omg ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

I LOVE THEIR OUTFIT TOO. ♥ ♥

But for some reason...they look like flight attendees? XD; XD; *is shot* I think it's the four buttons in the front that make it look like that. But I still like their outfits! :D And I really, really love the last part of the dance in the last pic. ♥

And LOL at the random white guys during Jae and Yunho's rap. XD XD XD

the announcers say 'wrong number' like they've got a mouth full of oatmeal or something?

BUT I LIKE PEACOATS. D: it's kind of a winter-y update on the classic? or hell, I dunno. SLICK!DBSK IS SO WELCOMED. (oh my god they're wearing clothes! and FUCK YES NO POSSIBILITY OF JAE!NIPPLES! i couldn't be happier.)

oh hey, changmin's hair looks less dyke-ish now. I approve. I still love Yoochun's new style so hard, it's like... such a throwback to when he was tiny and not consistently hair-raped by the stylists/

((oh, and completely off-topic, but I remember I initially said I didn't like 'Love Lockdown' on here? Yeah, I love it now. D:))

YES. what the hell was that?!

i think yoochun's new hair is a nice color but it's a bit long. i wish it were shortened a little bit but i'm not complainin', they all look normal and non-clownish.

SCORE. what changed your mind, repeated listens? have you heard the whole album btw?

they all look normal and non-clownish.

for once!! i'm also kind of glad the 'ridiculously long greasy hair' (formerly sported by yoochun, changmin, ryeowook, donghae..) trend has died down in SM. they look... more polished this way, and less like seedy back-alley characters, haha.

Oh, and on a more post-related note, that JaeMinSu... harmonization thing? right after the rap gave me goosebumps. i don't know if that's a good thing or not..

and yes. :D I think listening to the whole album was what swayed it. I over-exaggerated a bit above; Love Lockdown isn't my favorite song off the album (I like Street Lights, Paranoid, and Robocop the most... Amazing, and Heartless, and Love Lockdown are all in a second, "I like it, but it's not my favorite" category) but... the album overall is quite good.
It's just... different from his earlier stuff. I don't think the album as MUCH as his others, just as a matter of personal preference. But I can definitely appreciate it, as kind of a new art form for him. The musical composition of the whole thing is very... conscious? I'm not sure how to describe it. I personally prefer Fun!Rapper!Kanye, but if this is the direction he's going to go, that's cool too, because he's still making some pretty damn good music. :D

on a more post-related note, that JaeMinSu... harmonization thing

I actually didn't know it was a JaeMinSu deal when I was listening to the studio version. But then I saw them belt notes and shit and I was like "LOVE IN THE ICE?! WAIT, WHAT?! WHERE!!!" because I'm starting to be very wary of them taking themselves and their singing a liiiiittle bit too seriously. (Seriously, Love in the Ice in Korean has lost all meaning to me.)

I'm still trying to decide if Love Lockdown is my favorite but I think it might be Amazing. I wish Young Jeezy didn't sound so...damn sleazy (heh) but I dig that song. The drum beat in the back actually reminds me of a Feist song, so maybe that's why I like it. There are only maybe two songs I actively dislike but the rest is pretty damn good, imo.)

I actually like this album more than his other albums, by a lot too. I hate how much Kanye samples and this is basically his first sample-free CD. It's a personal thing and I can definitely appreciate samples when they're part of an awesome end result (a la Kanye's "Stronger") but to sample for everything you make is something I really hate.

hahaha, I dunno. I LOVED Love in the Ice when it first came out, and I'm all for ~taking the risk~ and trying to belt something...
(With sometimes hilarious results - I have a clip somewhere of Changmin going for an improv'd high-note flourish* in a live of one of their much older songs and sounding like a dying cat instead, and Yunho actually literally startles mid-song)
But... eh. It certainly makes lives more interesting. I can't WATCH them do it for the life of me (oh my god, in the video, at about 2:54, Junsu shakes his head back and forth in a manner that looks slightly... retarded, to be politically incorrect, and I keep looping it and cracking up), but that harmonization thing SOUNDS cool. It's all ~dramatics~ so they look ~impassioned~ on stage... but at the end of the day, they can sing pretty damn well, so I guess they're whoring their singing understandably..

*(What do you call those? You know, the oooOOOOhhhHHhhhs that Junsu always adds over the chorus and such, and Christina Aguilera does them all the time?)

At least he doesn't do constant covers (a la SHINee 8D), hahaha. Sampling isn't something that really bothers me, I don't know, since he used them so well, and it's fairly obscure stuff, from what I can tell, since Daft Punk was actually the only sample that I had already known the song. But if it does bother you, I can see why you wouldn't like his other stuff as much..

I do like the album, I really do, but it's a lot less... well, fun than previous albums. I feel sad that Kanye's sad? I want him to cheer up? I don't even know.
I do remember you mentioning that you really liked 'Jesus Walks' - and that's one of my favorites too, it's serious without being dreary, and sometimes I feel like 808's.. is a little... dreary. But that's most likely what he was going for, being about heartbreak and all. Incidentally, I ended up liking the 'lighter' songs on the album, but it is all pretty damn good. Just out of curiousity, which songs do you dislike? It's okay if they're songs I listed as liking.

Oh trust me, I loved Love in the Ice for the longest time before they started promoting it in Korea. It had a special place in my heart because they rarely ever performed it and the Soul Power event was really something. But now it's been capitalized on and commercialized to death and I'm just so blaaahhhhhh over it. I think this may just be my feelings for the Korean version because I watched the Japanese version for Music Japan and I still really liked it and didn't want to bash myself. I somehow feel like they naturally act less dramatic in the Japanese version than in the Korean. Idk.

We should keep calling them flourishes because it's probably a funner word than the technical term (that I don't know anyway :D).

ETA: YES! Junsu at 2:54 IS alarmingly seizure-inducing. I was like "????? what IS that?" when I first watched the vid. I wish I didn't notice the things that happen off to the side with other members when the camera is focusing on someone else. The things done off the side are always so cracktastic.

Aside from the sampling, I'm not really drawn to a lot of his beats. Compared to the beats used in 808s though, I think I can say that I prefer sounds that are more instrumental than electronic. Yes. I think I've just found a way to verbalize what exactly it was that was bugging me about Kanye's previous work and what I like in music in general...

TMI.

Anyway. I definitely agree that it's less fun. In fact, it is NO FUN AT ALL. When I first heard "Street Lights," I was confused for a sec and thought I was listening to Death Cab for Cutie or something. About "Jesus Walks," I think it def has to do with the fact that the songs on 808 are personal songs about personal events whereas "Jesus Walks" talked about a broader set of events. It IS about his faith but I think it applies to bigger societal issues (war, racism, etc).

I don't really like "Paranoid" and I'm apathetic about "Bad News" and "Pinocchio Story." I wanted to kill myself when Lil Wayne sang in "See You in My Knightmares" but I quite like that song. The rest of the album is game to me. Needa buy!

I'm still waiting for more Kiss Shita Mama, Sayonara lives, personally. :D The ~T~ live tour one was a bit disappointing, unfortunately.

(Tinhat theory: They act less dramatic in the Japanese version, because they're taking the higher route in comparison to JE, who act incredibly dramatic [look up any live of any NewS or KAT-TUN "ballad"] but don't have the talent to back it up?
Like a subtle, "Not only are we much better singers than you, YamaPi, but we're so smugly assured of ourselves so we don't have to overact it!"
Or, they don't identify with the Japanese lyrics as much so don't have the ~overwhelming emotional connection~ like they do with the Korean one, but that point is becoming less valid as they seem to be increasingly Japanese-fluent..)

(But I agree about the commercialization. Feels kind of like the indie band that sold out, right? Except, you know, DBSK being nothing like an indie band in the slightest.. ehh. Like I said, I tend to LISTEN more to lives then actually watch them, since I can multi-task or attempt sleep while listening, so if all of their dramatic vocal bravado SOUNDS good, I'm all "yay!", but if I attempt to WATCH their dramatics, I just crack up and die.)

(... Hell, I dunno, even the vocal groups like SG Wannabe who specialize in ballads tend to overdo things for the sake of, well, showing off their vocal skill, and they don't even need to validate their skills. Sometimes I feel like DBSK is trying desperately hard to re-validate their "Gods of The East, Especially Korea" status, but then by being all srs bzness, they look like asswads in comparison to, say, Big Bang)

(^ ALL LONG AND POINTLESS SPECULATION. I apologize for leaving these motherfucking enormous comments on here all the time. D:)

But "Street Lights" is all cheery because he 'knows where he's going, but he's just not there', haha. Street Lights is one of my favorites because of that - it's got a more hopeful tone than most of the others? I dunno, it's kind of 3am and I'm kind of delirious.

I would totally buy the album if I wasn't broke-ass poor atm and didn't have like thirty other albums lined up in my "to buy" queue. D: (Pieces Part One, to name one)..
