02 - Bi-Monthly Feature

After half a semester of grueling advertising plates I've come to discover that indeed, advertising is more than what meets the eye. People would usually define advertising as selling a product/ idea. It's not it at all. Advertising to be precise is the establishment of brand familiarity or to ensure that your consumers are loyal to your product- constantly giving them images that would think back and remember what you presented.

Editorial ads are different. Now these are the ads that try to make a statement. And personally, editorials are more fun to do. :)

Point Example.
McCann Ericson : Cap
McCann has been unstoppable. Just thinking about sending my resume someday makes me embarrassed. They're the people known to redefine 'less is more' and always come out with simple but witty imagery.

Terra News : Exercise
The imagery can pass off as something editorial if it wasn't for the Terra News logo. I like how the image tied in with the copy (Suddenly you see the world more clearly). This would've been an editorial if they plastered an anti-war sentiment.

All these and more care of Ads of the World. They have everything from video, print ads and ambients. Its a wonderful place to surf and refresh your creative mind. In my case I need a lot of that.

01 - Bi-Monthly Feature

Every two months I will be featuring an interesting site/ book/ etc.that I would highly recommend for you guys to check out. For my first feature I wanted to pimp out TODAY'S INSPIRATION, which is a site that features 40's and 50's illustrations. I am absolutely in love with vintage art and the feel and texture of old school prints since I used to own fairytale books that were from that era.

It can be on account that my dad passed down to me his collection of story books taken from his gradeschool years. There were a series of monoblock print illustrations based on fables and gory portrayals of greek mythology using ink presses... BUT I digress. Perhaps someday I can find a way to upload our personal collection.

I've been a watcher of Today's Inspiration since 2005 (I found it through Illustration Friday). And personally I was drawn to the picturesque ideas of the perfect get-together/ love/ family. It makes me realize that fully hand drawn renderings can still blow you away and can just as effectively deliver an advertisement's message as the ones that are circulating in recent years.

I like the fantasy each piece delivers. If you've gotten into it enough to check out the old school coca cola ads (2006 christmas) you'd also understand what I mean. Like if Marlboro gives you the fantasy of cowboys and the open range, Coca-Cola sells a more whimsical happy feel to its Christmas ads. Whenever I see one of 'em santa posters you just have to smile. But one big WTF on the giving out rifles to kids ads. Oh those 50's~! :D The things you could've gotten away with!

But it is a sad thing that lately we haven't been seeing ads that can come up with the same effect. There's something about a hand painted scene that invokes a unique feeling apart from a photograph or some photo manipulated embellishment. It's work like this that keeps you looking again and again. Maybe this is what you mean by "old time magic".//

p.s. Since I just opened Pop*Carbon I'll be post spamming for the next few days to get it running. Pardon D: But I promise it would be worth the watch and space!
