Description:popular culture meets feminist discussion
About
This community is intended as a forum for discussions of popular culture through a feminist lens. This may include negative, positive, or just plain neutral discussion; critiques, concerns, issues, reflections, comments, commendations, whathaveyou.

Really loved the way that that one character was developed in that movie? Hated the way that popular tv show portrayed an issue? Disgusted by the mysoginy of that song on the radio? Happy to see a great story arc in a comic? Post away.

The rules, in no particular order, are hopefully pretty self explanatory:

1. Be respectful of your fellow community members. This is intended to be a safe space for all genders, sexes, and sexualities. Discussion and disagreement are fun. Name calling and personal attacks are not. Related, playing "oppression olympics" will not be tolerated - discussion of interplays between sexism, racism, classism, ableism, heterosexism, and other -isms are often quite relevant. Participating in such -isms is not.

2. Please use an lj-cut for long posts, for article text and for anything that might be considered triggering.

3. Intro posts are perfectly cool, provided that your intro discusses something about feminism and pop culture.

4. Generally speaking, no community promos, unless it has a specific bent that is related to this community. Similarly, as a basic rule, no spam or quizzes or meme posts - unless you also want to introduce a substantive discussion about said meme.

5. Please do not use this community to incite or encourage inter-community drama. Linking to other communities if relevant to the purpose of this community is permissible. Linking to public posts on personal journals should be done with care.

6. When citing to an article, please place the most relevant sections behind an LJ cut.

7. Membership in this community is currently moderated. This is to help prevent trolling, but is not meant to be exclusionary. Posts are *not* set to be automatically friends only.

As a general matter, if you have any suggestions for rules/guidelines, potential terms for the interests section, or other administration related comments, please do not hesitate to contact [info]emzebel at emzebel at livejournal dot com.
