Toy Art Show Looking for Submssions and Performers

This show is going to be a FREE event, but we need the help of artists and Performers to make it exciting!
Toys make everyone happy, they rekindle the experiences of our childhood.
What is your artwork that is related to toys?
Toy Art can be anything toy themed. Bicycles, puppets, sculpture, pinatas, dolls, games, fashion, robots, and more encouraged.
This show is also in search of toy related talent to preform.( Hula hoopers, fire, jugglers, klowns, puppets...)

91-year-old blind, African American author comes to Central Library

My name is Eva Fields and I'm sending this to tell you that my grandma Eva Rutland www.evarutland.com will be signing books in Portland. Mrs. Rutland wrote a memoir entitled "When We Were Colored, a Mother's Story" that tells her story of being a young black mother raising four children in California during the early days of integration of the 1950s and 1960s. Upbeat and funny, she states in her introduction "I was born in the
olden days, when pot was a cooking utensil, webs were for spiders and civil rights were for white folks." She tells stories all mothers can relate to. Stories like taking her four children all under the age of eight to the 5-and-10 (the five and dime) three days before Christmas and 5-year-old Ginger having a break down in the store because she spent all her money and forgot to buy her daddy a present. She peppers her stories with reminders of the special problems that blacks faced. She ends the Christmas story with a lament about having to walk past Woolworths during the Civil Rights era when the store was being picketed for because they would not serve blacks at their lunch counters in the South. She states "but pass it up I did. This was bigger than my pockets. These young people were bigger than me---and I couldn't let them down."

Eva Rutland is now 91-years-old and blind but she continues to write. She has published over 20 novels and is currently working on her sequel to "When We Were Colored," tentatively entitled "Grandma Troubles." She will be signing books and talking about her life on:

This year I heard much griping about the lack of Halloween-ness. As the person who made the MaxJack last year on Halloween happen (we were the ones with the sound-system, kids - and we'll help YOU have a portable soundsystem too!), it honestly didn't occur to me this year that Portland would be a little dead if we didn't represent.

Lost Sept Tri-Met Bus pass 3-4 zone on Saturday 9/1

It had just come in the mail and my daughter put it into her wallet for safe keeping until she got home, she had not even signed it yet. She had stopped at the Taco Bell on old SE 82nd Drive right after leaving the post office, and it fell from her wallet while paying un-noticed.
The manager said someone did find one but took it with them and said they would check back in a couple days to see if someone had missed it. If you are this person please contact us asap, she needs this pass to get to work and we cannot afford to replace it, she is a single mom who saved all summer to buy her son his school clothes. We might be able to manage a small reward, but we are struggling paycheck to paycheck like lots of people. Hoping an honest person found it....

Has anyone else ever had this problem? I get a love letter from the IRS a couple weeks ago saying I'm being audited for my 2005 tax return. Frankly, I don't remember how I filed that year...I think it was with the paper form, so I don't have a copy. (Stupid!) However, they're going to send me a copy and they say it was because I neglected to include a W-2 form from one place I worked. I can't remember, but I think I did include it...why wouldn't I have, if I worked there that year? But anyway, no matter what, I apparently will owe them something like $600. Why did they wait so long to correct this problem?? Why didn't they contact me in 2005, so that I didn't owe all that interest?? Instead of now, when I'm broke and unemployed. Anyway...does anyone know, if there's anything I can do? I can't afford to pay them 600+ bucks! ARG!
