| About: | Ponywriters is a writing community principally composed of My Little Pony collectors. Most of our content, however, has nothing to do with ponies, and we do not actively exclude non-collectors from taking part in the community. We welcome finished works, works in progress, and general writing discussion. We also welcome posts about NaNoWriMo in November. ^_^ ______ Please read our rules before joining: 1. Tact is essential, and rude or insulting comments will not be tolerated. If you have suggestions for improving someone's work, that's terrific -- but phrase them positively. Constructive criticism is highly encouraged; hurtful criticism is not. 2. Posting your work to the group means that you're looking for constructive suggestions. Try not to let your feelings get in the way of listening to what others have to say -- we're here to help. Don't get upset or feel that respondents are being "mean." 3. If you like someone's work, compliments are encouraged. However, try to find something specific upon which to comment. While flattering to the ego, remarks like "great story!" aren't very helpful. Why is it a great story? What about it caught your attention? The flow? The dialogue? Writers need to know what's wrong, but it's also important to know what's right about a piece. 4. We're open to anything -- poetry, fiction, non-fiction, and everything in between. You're welcome to include an introduction or explanation with a posted work (for example: "My writing professor told us to write a poem about a duck") if you think it'll be helpful, but such things are by no means required. It's sometimes preferable to let works stand on their own. 5. When to use the LJ-cut feature: -You're posting a very long work. Remember other peoples' friends pages. -You're posting something that might be offensive to certain audiences. I'm not imposing a rating system or limits where this is concerned, but if you're unsure, the LJ-cut might be the way to go. 6. This group is intended for constructive criticism regarding content, not for editing. Try not to pick apart others' first drafts for spelling errors, misused punctuation, etc. However, if a poster specifically asks for such help, then feel free. In the same vein, spell-check and proofread before you post. Doing so makes it much easier for your work to be read and studied. If you don't want constructive criticism, state this when you post your work. 7. If you're new to the group, please make an introductory post before sharing your work or leaving comments for others. We just like knowing who's here. 8. I shouldn't even have to include this, but just in case... Don't steal others' work. Plagiarism is cause for immediate removal from the group. 9. Be polite but honest, and keep your ego in check. That's all we ask. ^_^ ______ Members who break the rules will be given one warning; if they continue to act inappropriately, they will be removed. As the community's creator and maintainer, I reserve the right to make final judgments regarding the question of propriety. ~ | |
