Hey everyone! I've been a member here for almost two years now, I think, and I've loved seeing all your adorable poms and hearing stories about them. On the 20th, I finally get to really join in! That's when I get to take home my very own! :]

This is going to be the longest week of my life! Haha. I have all his supplies bought already and his crate is set up in my room. <3

Hi all, how are you and your babies!
Its winter here in Australia, and my Kuroro is now 7 months old. Here he is:( Roro under the suuuunnnnn )
Anyway, just a curious question, since I am a first-time pom owner, and babyboy has been growing steadily, I was wondering what's considered as a healthy normal weight for a companion pom. At 7 months, my boy is about 6 pounds heavy, but I can feel his waist and ribs quite easily. I've been browsing a lot of pom info sites, and I gather that for a show pom, he would be considered too heavy / large?
I dont want him to be an overweight dog, but I dont want to unnecessarily underfed him either. So, I was just wondering, how heavy are other pet poms, generally speaking?
And just to make everyone's Friday even betterer: MR MUGGLES!

(love how he pushes away sylar's hand so casually)

Abby's here and resting comfortably. She is on antibiotics and pain meds, which I mentioned, and feeling no pain. She's eating well, drinking well, and up and about on fairly unsteady feet, with her tail wagging.

| pomeranian adoption |
[08 Jul 2009|11:38pm] |
My pomeranian's breeder is getting rid of my poms mother due to her being over the standard weight and having an unexpected second child. She's 7.5 pounds and her pups will be in the adult range of 6-7 pounds themeselves. With them being on the large end of the akc standard she decided to sell the mother.
I after falling in love with my baby cinder and seeing no one else has adopted his mother decided to open my home to another puff. But as its drawing nearer... to the 31st in beginning to wonder are there things I should look out for adopting a 1.5 year old pom.
The breeder has five other poms besides the one I am adopting, a small child etc, I am worried that this pom will suffer withdrawl issues from being away from its family. While Cinder has adjusted well here, and loves to play with our larger dogs im sort of worried about how this will all play out for our new addition.
Is there any advice or things I should look out for?
Any advice or information would be extremely helpful.
Thanks in advance

| Bladder stones and their reoccurence...? |

I recently had to take my pom Selphie to a vet different from the one I usually go to for a different problem, but the fact that she had bladder stones removed this year came up and the new vet told me they can reoccur if I don't put Selphie on medicated food (they gave me a sample of c/d from Hill's)
Now, I've looked at this food, and it just doesn't seem worth it to me. Basically water, corn, wheat, and chemicals. Yeah, that sounds healthy. Selphie already has allergies to foods containing these things, so I don't need to be paying for this overpriced junk (IMO) Currently I'm feeding her Nature's Recipe, because it's something she eats eagerly. I've used Blue Buffalo as well, and it's great food, but she doesn't seem to like it as much...
SO, doing some research on the prevention of the reoccurence of bladder stones, the internet has advise that a low-protein diet is beneficial. Makes sense, the c/d was EXTREMELY low protein. But Selphie's a small dog, and and active one at that, so it makes more sense to me that she needs protein in her diet to prevent bone loss and muscle degredation, not to mention to keep her feeling healthy and playful. Also read that giving her soft food helps since it's got a rather high water content. I've covered that, she gets canned in the evening and crunchies in the morning...
I'm just at the point now where I don't know what I should do... I have a feeling that the vet will tell me the darn prescription food is my only choice, and to me that's the last thing I want to do. Anybody got any ideas on how to prevent the growth of bladder stones OTHER than prescription food? If so, I'm all-ears! If nothing else, I thought this would be pretty good info for other pom owners in case they run into the same problem....

I joined here a while ago, but never got around to posting... Hi! I'm currently a student about to get my associates in graphic design, and I LOVE MY POM!! Her name is Selphie and she's fantastic. I also still live with my parents, and help my mom take care of her pom, who is Selphie's little sister. Her name's Kairi. =)

I've seen similar things posted here before -- but if it's not allowed let me know and I'll take it down, with my apologies. Her death day is meant to be just two days after my birthday, and I really don't want to see that happen. If you can help, it would be greatly appreciated.
Caroline's (the head of our rescue group) post, reposted. If anyone would like the code so they can repost, email me at bhoadley@gmail.com and I'll get them to you. The paypal address is savingfurryfriends@yahoo.com, and again: The vet's information as well as information can be emailed. The rescue's website is www.savingfurryfriends.com, and we are 5013c.
Thank you.
Meet Abby, a 9 year old Pom picked up as a stray by animal control.
Normally a pom coming into the shelter has a very good chance of getting out. This is not true for poor little Abby. Abby requires extensive vet care. Her right eye needs to be removed as well as a plum sized tumor on her mammary gland. We have spoken extensively with our vet about what Abbey will need. Abby's eye removal,..spay,tumor removal, anesethia, blood work and vaccination as well as a follow up visit will cost 390.00, and that is after our discount. We are asking for donations on Abby's behalf so that she can receive the surgery she requires. We have a foster lined up for Abby once she has had her surgeries.

I've been on a picture taking frenzy lately now that I've found my digicam charger! I've got all kinds of new pics to show off- including some of him swim/fetching at the local dog park! He always attracts quite a crowd! There are also some from the past few days as I am on a family trip in Telluride, Colorado. He loves it up here!

| New pom and potty training |
[19 Jun 2009|08:48pm] |
Hiii. I already have a pom, named Macaroni and he is 1.5 years old..

and today, i got him a girlfriend, Cheesy, she is 4 months old.

Macaroni is extremely potty trained. I can't really remember how I did it, but he hasn't gone potty inside for the past year! He is really good at it, but how do I potty train the new Cheesy? I live in a apartment, 43 stories up so if she goes inside, i can't rush her outside...so i'm not really sure what to do...Any advice would be appreciated :) Do you think her going inside the house will make macaroni regress?
p.s. i'll post better photos soon <3

| Perspective Pom Owner |
[09 Jun 2009|10:13pm] |
Hello everyone my name is Anne and I am hoping anyone, or at least someone, can help me out. My family has always had small dogs; the most recent we’re sisters (Shih Tzu/Pomeranian cross) and I adored my little girl Daisy, however last month she passed away - way too early and left her sister here. Now that I’m starting to look forward to having another puppy someday soon I’m really being drawn towards Pomeranians; I however have read conflicting things about Pomeranians and figured who would be best to answer these questions then Pomeranian owners themselves.
So, I have two dogs at home; the two year old sister of Daisy and a twelve year old Shih Tzu, would a Pomeranian get along well with my other two dogs? My other concern is children as I do hope to be pregnant somewhere within the next five years and worry how a Pomeranian will react to an infant/small child. I understand all dogs are different and each one has a completely different personality but I just want to make sure that the choice I am making will be the best for everyone.
After all that is said and done, is there anyone in the Alberta, Canada area that has had a good experience with breeders?
Thank you, all of you, who are able to offer anything in my direction.
EDIT: Because you all brought great information to the table and I am very thank-ful for that, this is definately a wonderful community.
Anne ♥
