Neglected Fandom Recs - July Challenge
Hello, everyone! I hope that your summers are going well. Continuing in our monthly summer reccing challenges, the final one of the year will be July's challenge to create a guest reccing post of a fandom/pairing that we've neglected on
polyfandomrecs. The first purpose of this community is for
storydivagirl and I to share our love for the copious amounts of fic we consume on a daily basis. The secondary purpose is to recognize exceptional fic writers, including those that might not get recced often.
As you can tell, we both lean heavily towards our pet fandoms and our favorite pairings, and that leaves out tons of great writers. Therefore, we've decided to give you all a chance to compile and post a list of recs in any fandom we've neglected. That way we can see some variety on here and maybe expand our horizons a bit. (There's also the selfish reason of wanting to find some new fandoms and good stories)
1. You can pick a fandom or pairing that
storydivagirl and I have made either one post, less than ten recs about or haven't recced in the last year. So for instance, I know that we don't have any QaFUS, Boondock Saints, The Sentinel or DC Comics recs. If you wanted to make a general post with good stories from those fandoms, you could do that. Though in the SGA fandom we have more than enough McKay/Sheppard recs, we don't have any McKay/Zelenka ones, so if you wanted to make a post dedicated specifically to THAT pairing, you could do that. While I've been full of bandom love lately, I haven't really touched on The Cab, Cobra Starship or any of the myriad bandom boys and girls, so you could do a batch of recs for them, even though Panic at the Disco fics are out. Or, if you're set on Panic, you could do a post of gen recs or only Spencer/Ryan, since I don't often include that pairing in my Panic posts. We used to post Doctor Who recs, but haven't done any in the last year, so if you wanted to pick that fandom, you could. Got it?
If you're not sure whether what you're interested in reccing would qualify, check out the tags on the community's home page.
2. Reply here with what fandom or pairing you want to do and what day you can take in the month of July. I'd like only one person per day, to avoid the dreaded spammage.
3. What does making a rec post entail? It should be in roughly the same format as ours. We give the title, the author, a sentence or two about why we like the story and then a short quote from the story. The quote is usually a sentence or two long as well. How many recs constitute a rec post? Well, anywhere from five-twenty is our norm. Don't go overboard. If it's getting too lengthy, please use a cut tag to save everyone's friend's pages. I would say if you go over eleven or twelve recs that a cut tag is necessary.
4. Another thing, and not to sound bitchy, but when we say "rec" post, that's what we mean. We don't just want a list of Vecchio/Kowalski stories; we want a list of QUALITY Vecchio/Kowalski stories, and we want you to tell us why you like them.
storydivagirl and I are very picky readers. That's part of the reason that we made this community, to be a resource to people who want good fic. It's a community made by and for picky readers. Of course quality is subjective, and we understand that, we're just saying don't add a story you didn't really like to your post just to bring your recs up to an even fifteen.
5. I'm going to give people posting access just like I did for the top ten challenge, so if you want to participate, you have to JOIN the community, not just WATCH it.
Here's previous years' posts.
