    skating parties?
This isn't particularly a poly post, but I've just learned that a good number of the polyBoston crowd enjoy roller skating, and since I consider myself a member of this crowd I *certainly* have a bias for my own. So--if you're interested in going roller skating I just created a new community:

    [info]saugussk8

to organize trips to the rink.

If you're interested, please join the community! And invite anyone else who might like to skate to join. Just my friends alone aren't going to make a regular rink rental.

Really, my primary purpose is not simply to have a place to shout "hey, let's go skating" but also to organize to rent out the rink for just us! If we have 40 people who are willing to pay $10/each, we can have the rink to ourselves--so we control the music and it isn't horribly crowded. I know we can rent the rink on Wednesday nights, and I'm pretty sure about Monday and Thursdays as well. Sunday may be a possibility--we'd have to ask (and it may be more expensive, but if there are enough skaters we're there.) The rental hours these evenings are 7-9, which does mean getting out to Saugus a bit on the early side, but it's doable.

But I stopped skating because I hated the music and there were so many kids on the floor or it was so horribly crowded that you couldn't actually skate. I guess other people might feel the same way and maybe together we can make this happen.

I'll be cross posting this in a number of places to see if we can't get an actual thing going.

PB Brunch at Doyle's in JP
    Hey everyone,

You and your loved ones are invited to join PolyBoston for a yummy brunch at Doyle's Cafe in Jamaica Plain on Sunday, March 16 at 12:00 Noon. What better way to get a head start on St. Patrick's Day? :-)

Doyle's is a landmark Irish-American restaurant that has been a beloved staple of JP for many years. It's great for large groups (we hope to get everyone at one big table), and the brunch fare is traditional and generously portioned. It's among the most delicious brunches I've had in the greater Boston area.

Whether you're a PB old-timer or brand new to PolyBoston, PB brunches and monthly dinners are one of the most comfortable and easy ways to get to know local polyfolk. At our recent dim sum brunch, more people were actually new than non-new, and we has an absolute blast. Doyle's promises to be just as much fun. Kids are very welcome, and the menu will accomodate their tastes.

Doyle's is located at 3484 Washington Street in JP. It is between the Green Street and Forest Hills stops on the Orange Line, walkable from both. There is also a parking lot (which may be full, but maybe not), as well as street parking. Jay or I will follow up with a map once we get some RSVPs.

Please RSVP to me by Friday March 14 (moonstonewater at yahoo dot com, or right here in reply. We hope you can make it, and look forward to a fun brunch with you and yours!

Hmmm... according to the daily mail, Tilda Swinton (recently of the Narnia film), appears to be living an unconventional Polyamorous lifestyle of sorts....

I've not previously made it to Diesel at the right time for the poly gathering, but this week I've got an interview on Tuesday, so I plan to be there. I'm hoping that someone I know will be there to introduce me around so I don't end up sitting in the corner by myself.

    looking for a meeting/gathering

So I know there are general social gatherings at the diesel, and the queer poly women's monthly meeting.  Is there a similar meeting for men or men and women in the boston/nh area?  I'm looking for one for a friend to chat and talk to others about their and his poly experience, as he's in a newer situation.
    Thanks!

    Poly Friendly Apartments in Salem
(I sent this to the PBA chat list and my own journal, sorry for any dupes.)

I'm a Bi-Poly-Geek-Sub who owns a three family in Salem, Ma. My third floor unit opened up about a month ago and now my second floor tenants have just given notice. They are both spacious two bedroom units (could possibly be used a three bedrooms). I've included the links to craigslist, please pass the info on to any interested parties. Thank you!

    Weekly Diesel Post
As this community doesn't see much in the way of traffic, I'd like to "fix" that by providing a central clearing-house for "I'll be at Diesel" and "I won't be at Diesel" announcements.

That way, if the weather is iffy and you hadn't decided whether to go or not, you can see who else is going and decide on that basis. And then report it. As you wish.

Whatever. I'll be going to Diesel tonite. Who else?

    Handel's Messiah
So, last call. I have 2 extra tickets for tomorrow's performance of The Messiah by Handel; they're $37.50 per person (a couple of last minute cancellations. I won't be out the money, but I'd like people to actually see the performance, as well as not have people pay for tickets they won't use). Any takers? Anyone? Bueller?

Trans Day of Remembrance @ Umass Boston on Nov. 20th
Please join the Queer Student Center of the University of Massachusetts, Boston for the 9th annual National Transgender Day of Remembrance on Tuesday, November 20th, 2007. Beginning at 5:30 pm in the Campus Center room UL-211, members of the community will be reading their poetry and prose and displaying their art. We will close with a vigil honoring those killed in anti-transgender violence.

    From http://www.rememberingourdead.org/day/what.html :

The Transgender Day of Remembrance was set aside to memorialize those who were killed due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice. The event is held in November to honor Rita Hester, whose murder on November 28th, 1998 kicked off the “Remembering Our Dead” web project and a San Francisco candlelight vigil in 1999. Rita Hester’s murder — like most anti-transgender murder cases — has yet to be solved.

Although not every person represented during the Day of Remembrance self-identified as transgendered — that is, as a transsexual, cross dresser, or otherwise gender-variant — each was a victim of violence based on bias against transgendered people.

We live in times more sensitive than ever to hatred based violence, especially since the events of September 11th. Yet even now, the deaths of those based on anti-transgender hatred or prejudice are largely ignored. Over the last decade, more than one person per month has died due to transgender-based hate or prejudice, regardless of any other factors in their lives. This trend shows no sign of abating.

The Transgender Day of Remembrance serves several purposes. It raises public awareness of hate crimes against transgendered people, an action that current media doesn’t perform. Day of Remembrance publicly mourns and honors the lives of our brothers and sisters who might otherwise be forgotten. Through the vigil, we express love and respect for our people in the face of national indifference and hatred. Day of Remembrance reminds non-transgendered people that we are their sons, daughters, parents, friends and lovers. Day of Remembrance gives our allies a chance to step forward with us and stand in vigil, memorializing those of us who’ve died by anti-transgender violence.
