I have just about locked in the 2nd roommate that I needed for my place. We now have 2 units with friends who are all industrial musicians, noise artists, dj's, promoters, performance artists, poly kink friendly types, etc. The bottom floor 3 bedroom is open for $1700. Monthly PolyBoston Dinner Tonight -- All Welcome!
Please join us tonight (Monday) at 7:00 PM at Bertucci's at the Alewife T stop for the monthly PolyBoston dinner. Newbies encouraged! This event is an excellent way for those new to PolyBoston to get to know people, and also for old friends to catch up. Bertucci's is on the ground level of the Alewife station just outside the exit, very easy to get to on the T, and there is plentiful parking for those coming by car. An awesome poly event
Some of you may know me from when I was at MIT through 2002. Or perhaps from Intercon, or Arisia, or Baitcon, or through various mutual friends. But today I'm not posting about any of those. Today I want to talk about PolyCamp Ontario 2009. I know what you're thinking: Ontario is far away! Why would you want to go all the way to central Ontario for a poly camping event? Here's my stab at a few reasons to make the trek to our site, the Mansfield Outdoor Centre. - Come to see our Guest of Honor, Cunning Minx, the fantabulous and sexy hostess (pictured here) of the Poly Weekly podcast.
 (Not familiar? Even if you'd never come to PolyCamp, I urge you to check it out -- Poly Weekly is awesome). - Interested in attending a family-friendly poly event with workshops, panels, experiential workshops, and social events, but getting sticker shock from the prices? PolyCamp Ontario is only $89 US at current exchange rates. Other nearby poly events charge on the order of $385. They include food, but food for a weekend shouldn't cost $300!
- Perhaps you like the idea of helping out an event that is committed to remaining accessible to people of all incomes. Most poly events focus on paying big name speakers to draw a crowd, which jacks up the prices. PolyCamp Ontario's aim is to emulate the model exemplified by scifi cons like Arisia -- we believe we can put on a fantastic event without spending exorbitant amounts of money. If supporting the event is part of your motivation, this is the year to make it happen -- we're making the transition from a small private venue to a public venue. It's more expensive, but it will give us the room to grow. And as we grow, the price will drop again.

The boring detailsThe event takes place August 14 through 16. It's about a 10 hour drive from Boston via Niagara Falls, or an 11.5 hour drive if you go via the Thousand Islands -- a beautiful drive. If you fly into Toronto it's only about an hour north of the Airport; there are lots of beds available indoors if you don't want to lug your camping equipment on an airplane. On poly
In my abstract ideal world, being poly means being open to love and connection from more than one person. This is still true for me. But here's the question I'm pondering right now: Is there anyone out there who feels that poly, in some ways, is about maintaining independence? monthly parent-child hanging out, anyone?
(Sorry about the out-of date userpic - my hair is now a LOT shorter and the baby girl is a lot bigger.) I realized last night at Diesel that a number of us have children under 5, and it's difficult to hang out at Diesel with them. How would people feel about a monthly playdate? There's a nice playground just off the bikepath near Davis, or if people were willing to come out to East Medford (still T-accessible, and more parking for those who drive) there are some nice playgrounds there too. Or we could go someplace else (particularly in winter), so long as it's free or under $10/family. Older children (and childless adults who like kids) are certainly not barred from this, I just think they might get bored. :) Mondays, Wednesdays and Sundays are likely to be the best afternoons for me (I work mornings). Thoughts? |
