Hellplot: The Table of Contents
No. I am not entirely off hiatus yet (mainly because the optometrist isn't open today and I can't get my glasses and see how much they're going to help). However, it is time to prepare for the Plot In Which John Constantine Returns, Dragging Chaos Behind Him.
We'll just call it the hellplot, for short.
So. John's been more or less gone for the past few months as I sorted out some issues, including but not limited to my broken computer and my aching eyes. However, he has not been home. Oh no. Instead, he's been alternately fleeing from, being kidnapped by, and thwarting the plans of several semi-corporeal succubi whose attention he attracted from his own world. He's been staying off the Network so that his pursuers don't start using it themselves to broaden their schemes--and so that he doesn't get drawn into any drama that distracts him.
On August 15, this will change as John finally manages to lure the succubi into a trap and finish them off. Problem is, this trap? Involves luring them into the gears of the clock. Where they will splatter. Their spiritual residue will be flung out all over the City. Yeah, that's not good.
When the succubi first splatter (don't worry, I'll be making a post when this happens), the only result will be that psychics and other "sensitives" (i.e. Jedi, more spiritually attuned shinigami, wizards with a talent for clairvoyance) will sense Something Bad Going Down. Over the next few days, they may have vague nightmares or psychic flashes warning them of infernal trouble ahead--details, of course, will vary depending on how they handle these things in their own canon.
The actual Bad Thing will start happening on August 19. At this point, the demonic essence that got splashed all over the City will start affecting people and places.
People affected by the plot will find that their dark passions and sinful inclinations growing increasingly strong over the next few days, tending towards a goal of making them demons themselves.
Places affected by the plot will become creepier and more disturbing, tending towards a goal of making them a piece of hell. Note that this can only happen to small, player-owned places: apartments, shops, or small bars or restaurants.
Over the next couple of days, players can feel free to RP out the effects and have their characters start making guesses as to what the cause is (it...probably won't be hard to figure out). On the 20th, more magically knowledgeable characters can come to the conclusion that if the menace goes on unchecked, it will transform people and places into demons and miniature hells.
Of course, it won't go on unchecked. We can't have that happening, after all.
On August 21, characters can start figuring out what to do about it. The answer: spiritual clean-up! The affected people and parts of the City need to be purified. How exactly this is accomplished, I'll leave up to the players, although I can suggest some ideas: wizards could come up with an elaborate spiritual cleansing ritual; shinigami could come up with some device or kidou technique which turns parts of the demonic taint into low-level hollows, which can then be defeated. All I ask is that when you come up with an idea, comment here to let me know what it is so I can keep track.
By the end of August 23, the last of the infernal stain will have been wiped up, and characters will be left to deal with the fallout from what they did when they were affected, or what happened in the tainted places.
Comment here with:
a) Characters or places (controlled by one of your characters) you'd like to be affected
b) Characters you'd like to take an active or organizing role in the clean-up
c) Ideas for how some characters can help with the clean-up
d) Questions
e) Suggestions
This plot is mod-approved. Mods may also want to keep an eye on this post in case anyone suggests something that you think wouldn't be a good idea.
