I'm not particularly sure that Sonia Sotomayor is a good choice for the Supreme Court. I think we shouldn't have a judge with an agenda - and she clearly has one, which I shouldn't explain to all of you wise ones here. On the other hand, I think at least 4 of the SCOTUS judges have strict partisan inclinations. It is a sure thing that she will pass the hearing, unless, of course, she would all of a sudden start speaking honestly from her heart.

Bill Moyers of PBS interviews former VP of Communications for a major health insurance corporation
It reiterates a lot of the points that came up in my last post. surely most of you remember that one, as it got a few hundred comments. Hat tip to [info]gillen for pointing me at the interview. If you're interested in clip two of the interview he outlines how the insurance industry actually shit a brick and launched a massive countercampaign against michael moore's film "Sicko". Speaking as a guy who thinks michael moore is more or less a gigantic fat walking talking joke that amuses me to no end.

Only 6% of Scientists are Republicans

Well, I guess when your belief system is inherently anti-intellectual, you reap what you sow. Let's remember that Republicans and Conservatives not only hate scientists, but also journalists and academics and just about anyone whose job it is to present the public with actual *facts*. It appears that reality has a liberal-bias. Since reality does not support belief in intelligent design, global warming skepticism, opposition to stem-cell research or abortion, abstinence-only education, foreign policy belligerence, and laissez-faire or supply-side economics, anyone who points this out is accused of peddling an agenda. The video makes some good observations about how the mouth-breathers are likely to spin this.

It's just further proof that liberals are inherently smarter than conservatives.

Next, Those Wacky Socialist-Pinko Liberals Will Claim Air Is a Basic Human Right!
The current debate on healthcare keeps highlighting for us just how low human beings can sink when profits are involved. The most recent example of right wingers crying out, like Cain, "Am I my brother' keeper?" is Jillian Bandes who, the other day, in a “lively” discussion on healthcare with cancer survivor Jane Hamsher, asked incredulously, “Should food be a basic human right?”

There is no insurgency. -Dick Cheney

There are enough troops in Iraq. -George W. Bush

Anyone who talks about the post-invasion will be fired. -Donald Rumsfeld.

    The GOP:

Fighting a war against people that don't exist to protect you from the threat of terrorists who really do exist, so that they can refuse to send enough troops only to send more (oops lol!), while fixing problems that don't exist to help you deal with problems that do exist, like the destruction of families while fucking their mistresses and getting hand-jobs from gay men on their way to the Family Council.

But no... really... what has happened to our country's values?

    You know... like winning?

    Bush wiretap program
    http://www.miamiherald.com/news/politics/AP/story/1136796.html

Despite the Bush administration's insistence that its warrantless eavesdropping program was necessary to protect the country from another terrorist attack, FBI agents, CIA analysts and other officials had difficulty evaluating its effectiveness, according to an unclassified government report made public Friday.

The report, written by inspectors general from the CIA, Pentagon, Justice Department, National Security Agency and the Office of Director of National Intelligence, also faulted the Bush White House for its secretive handling of the program.

Bush officials so restricted access to information about the program that Justice Department officials couldn't properly monitor it - or even judge its legality, the inspectors general concluded.

The 38-page report is an unclassified version of a much longer document, hundreds of pages of which remain secret.

    ---

Well, duh, how does the Justice Department 'evaluate' something that they aren't allowed to see? So we'll never know if: (1) it was legal, (2) saved us from another attack, (3) is still ongoing, (4) found your momma guilty of raising a terrorist, or (5) has a really cool super secret handshake for members only.

After contacting the good folks at the George W. Bush Presidential Library, they suggested I try this website:

    Spread the Wealth, Leftards!!!
    http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/07/10/house-democrats-plan-to-tax-the-wealthy-to-pay-for-health-care-reform/?hp

As usual....what do Democrats do when they need Money for more Ineffective Gov't Programs....take Money from hard working people and "spread the wealth."

Why do Leftards have trouble with the concept that the people have the right to the fruits of their labor? If you earn a six or seven figure salary, you are entitled to that money without being taxed over 1/4 of it for the benefit of the lazy and the poor. In addition, it damages incentive to work hard for more money when you know you won't see a substantial increase in income due to the tax burden, and decreases money available to invest.

Taxation is theft....pure and simple. It is inherently coercive and anyone who thinks the IRS isnt the closest thing we have to a domestic terrorist org has never been audited. Taxation is theft by thugs with guns. This country was founded in opposition to unjust taxes. It's our duty to carry on that tradition and fight against Gov't theft.

    Orator of freedom
John F. Kennedy, Inaugural Address, Friday, January 20, 1961:
Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty

    Ronald Reagan, February 11, 1988:
And we understand that the most important change of all is this: that containment is no longer enough, that we no longer can be satisfied with an endless stalemate between liberty and repression. That arms reduction negotiations, development and testing of SDI, and our help for freedom fighters around the globe must express the clear goal of American foreign policy. To deter war, yes. To further world peace, yes. But, most of all, to advance and protect the cause of world freedom so that some day every man, woman, and child on this Earth has as a birthright the full blessings of liberty.

Barack Obama, NewEconomicSchool in Moscow, commencement address, July, 7 2009:
Now let me be clear: America cannot and should not seek to impose any system of government on any other country...

What happened to us as a nation? Where are our values?

Detainees, Even if Acquitted, Might Not Go Free

The Obama administration said Tuesday it could continue to imprison non-U.S. citizens indefinitely even if they have been acquitted of terrorism charges by a U.S. military commission.

So, tell me, how is this better than Bush? Where's the Change?

Officials say that the laws of war allow indefinite detention to prevent aliens from committing warlike acts in future

And when you have an indefinite "war", then you can logically imprison almost anyone for as long as you want. I'm curious who here is going to rabidly defend this position.

    On rational political discourse
There are boundaries to rational political discourse, I think. When a statement is made that is so far outside the realm of rationality-- to the point where it flies in the face of all observable reality-- it is fair to say that you are not functioning on the same plane of existence as the rest of us. You therefore sacrifice any semblance of credibility in making such statements, and lose the right to complain about people resorting to contemptuous insults and not responding with elaborate critiques complete with works cited page.

For example, the statement: "There is no healthcare crisis in the USA."

That puts you firmly in super whacky la-la land. That flies in the face of observable reality. You should not be terribly surprised, therefore, that in the process of pointing out the obvious to you someone punctuates their comments with the periodic "what are you, some kind of freaking idiot? or just a plain old fashioned lunatic?" You should likewise be unsurprised after making a statement like that when people have difficulty taking anything you say seriously.

    Scalia DESTROYS the ACLU
Supreme Court Justice Scalia shows why he is the smartest Justice on the bench today by DEMOLISHING this ACLU bimbo....the ACLU tries to defend Judicial Activism and the myth of a "living constitution"....This bimbo was totally out of her league and Scalia shows her why both ideas are completely ridiculous and against what the Founders believed.....I'd like to see The Wise Latina take him on in a debate..

And the ACLU continues to show why they are the longest running joke in America....more interested in taking away our liberties than preserving them because of their complete disregard for The Constitution....

Apparently there was another teabagger party today - I was surprised as Fox News had not generated much publicity for it. The last one which was in no way organized by anyone and a total grassroots movement drew 15.000 to 20.000 in Atlanta and was thus one of the nations biggest. Today it was attended by about 200. A trend for diminished turnout of teabaggers appears to have been the case nationwide. I'm curious what the reason is. Do people not care? Have they converted to communism? Have they all been rounded up in deathcamps by the Obama Brownshirt Brigades? Is it that many teabagging conservatives have the attention span of a dysfunctional marmot? I humbly seek enlightenment on this issue.

    Sarah Palin Outsmarts the Left
    FOXNEWS.com, Peter Ferrara

"Sarah Palin's resignation as Governor of Alaska is a brilliant liberating move for her career, and a potential turning point for the national conservative movement. I am hoping she spends two weeks of every month now touring the states doing fundraisers for a the sweeping Republican revival in 2010 that is now developing...

...She should also lead the nation's mothers to oppose mandating replacement of incandescent light bulbs with the new mercury poison gas bulbs."

(more - if you need a good laugh)

    Sarah Palin Resigns

Governor Sarah Palin announced today that she is resigning by the end of the month. This seems like a pretty obvious move to position herself for a Presidential run in 2012. But in typical Palin fashion, it doesn't make much sense. I personally don't understand why she didn't just run out her term and decline to run for reelection. But not a lot about Sarah Palin makes sense to me. It seems there are better ways of positioning yourself for the presidency than quitting your previous job halfway through your term.

Now, I'm personally of the opinion that Sarah Palin is an unmitigated disaster of a public official (see: Wayne Anthony Ross, The Juneau Senate Debacle, privitizing govermnent employees retirement funds, the odd lies of Sarah Palin, etc). Fortunately, the American people seem to agree with me. For evidence of her national popularity, take a look at this study on her effect on the McCain ticket. As an Obama supporter, I have to say that I really hope this move works and she wins the Republican nomination in 2012.

And now for some nostalgic fun:

Joblessness Hits 9.5%, Deflating Recovery Hopes

    HAHAH....Where is your Messiah now???

So do the Leftards still want to claim the Stimulus worked? Where is the improvement! Where??? We spent 800 Trillion dollars for nothing....We told you the New Deal was a colossal failure in the 1930s and it will fail again in the 2000s.....yet none of you Leftards want to listen to people who understand Economics!!!!

How many times do we have to tell you? Socialism Doesn't Work.

In the words of Thomas Sowell, an actual SMART Black Man who UNDERSTANDS ECONOMICS: "When I see the worsening degeneracy in our politicians, our media, our educators, and our intelligentsia, I can’t help wondering if the day may yet come when the only thing that can save this country is a military coup."
