About
This community is pretty much the same as the regular community on livejournal. It was created because of some issues that were causing problems in the original community that just weren't being dealt with, and they were making people not feel comfortable in sharing what they are doing.

In this community, it is not appropriate to make comments or replies blasting people because they have not followed your personal ideal of how things should be done. You are more than welcome to make POLITE comments asking for clarifications if something is bothering you, but you may not immediately start accusing people of criminal behaviour and making demands at them, thus making the community a place where no one wants to post or share because they don't know if they are going to be victim of a random attack next.

If you have no training in manners whatsoever, you can find many resources on the net that can help you. If you just feel that you can't be bothered, this is not the place for you. Go be a troll somewhere else.

Here is a small example of manners that you could probably base anything off of.

Someone posts most of a pattern, trying to figure out how to work one row in with the others because the pattern is written wrong.

INCORRECT REACTION: You CANNOT post that pattern here! That is copyright violations and against the TOS and illegal and you are a horrible person trying to steal that pattern as your own and I DEMAND YOU DELETE THIS RIGHT NOW!!!! You are wrong and I am right!

users' response is usually:wtf is your problem?

Mods response: BAN flaming troll, ask original writer to post a bit more information so we are on a more legal footing.

BETTER WAY TO HAND IT??
Appropriate reaction: Excuse me, but could you post a link to where you found this pattern, and maybe the name and company of the book who sells it? It would be a good idea for posterity's sake.
users response: oh hey, I completely spaced it, I had a lot going on...will add it to the post or to the comments here in just a bit, remind me in a couple days if I forget, okay? Thanks for letting me know!!!
Mods response: thank you folks for handling this in a mature polite manner!

If you feel you can't be bothered to be polite to other people, go bully people in other communities where it is allowed. You won't be accepted here.

UPDATE: Because there are now communities aimed at nothing more than poking fun and being nasty about posts they see, the community has gone friends only, meaning only members may see the posts unless the person posting goes out of their way to make the post publicly visible. Membership is still currently open and will remain that unless we start finding people joining with the purpose of reading friends only posts in the community to then go and snark about them in the catty community. Then this forum will change so that it is moderated, and members will have to be approved.

Really people, don't you have something better to do with your time then pester us? We don't want to bother you, hence we made our own community so you don't have to get all excited and reprimand us everytime we post something in "your" community. We are pointedly trying to not bother you, please do us the favor of the same. Leave us alone.

While the community stemmed from another because of lack of manners, our real focus is not teaching manners here, it's the fun textile art known as crochet. You don't have to be "crochet-pure" here, we appreciate articles and information about other related textile type arts as well, just don't get real carried away with it. The moderator actually loves seeing combined media type works...we are doing functional art forms here folks!!

In this community we can share patterns, tips, tricks, questions, jokes, and bounce ideas of each other.
Show off your projects, and ask all the questions you want, wether it's a new-to-crochet type question or something complicated. The only dumb question is the one not asked! Share your crochet jokes and funny experiences, and just generally enjoy the place. Please keep things as crochet related as possible, if you are in doubt email and ask the moderator. Because of my health my responses aren't always lightening fast, but it will get there eventually. (I'm also looking for a few co mods, anyone interested? Also, if anyone would like to donate to making this a paid community, that would be wonderful...we could then jazz it up a bit!)

note: please post all pictures behind an lj cut to help with friends pages and for those who are on phone downloads. if you don't know how to do an lj cut or how to post images, there is a post here with several links to the appropriate FAQ pages that teach how to do so.

Please don't post "join my community" posts, or meme and quiz posts here, leave those to your own journals or to the communities that are set up for such things. Please try to keep things relatively crochet and textile arts connected.

if you have something interesting to sell, a pattern, something that you make, custom made crochet hooks..I don't mind you posting if it is relevant to the community. I do ask that you try to limit such posts to once a month, so that we aren't flooded with sales posts. If you spin custom yarn and wish to sell here, please post all of the material available behind a cut, in one post each month so the volume remains reasonable. If sales posts get out of hand we will have to remove this feature, as the community is mostly about crochet and sharing tips and skills and ideas....but I don't mind if occasionally people get a chance at helping someone else out and get some lovely hand made goodies in the bargain. HOWEVER: all such negotiations and contracts take place in email between the two parties, the community and moderator is in no way responsible for problems that might occur. Okay? Don't come looking to me for damages, I may give you some, as a friend of mine once said!

COPYRIGHT ISSUES: This is a really big bug in some people's butts...to the point that there have been some posters who automatically attack and insult anyone who THEY percieve as tresspassing in any on this holier than thou subject.

That is WHY POLITE crochet was invented.

Here's the thoughts on copyright. Copyright law is very complicated, worded in a way that even the damn lawyers and judges don't completely understand, and is a right pain in the ass. Some people can take it to the extreme of extremes and make things miserable for everyone.

No thank you.

Here is what I respectfully ask that you provide when posting patterns, articles, or anything else that might fall under copyright law.

1. Many times people post patterns, seeking help with a error in the pattern. We understand that sometimes you have to post the instructions to the rows above and below the row that you are dealing with, since just per the nature of crochet, they are all interconnected and affect each other.

Please TRY not to post an entire pattern if you can avoid it. When you DO post a large part of a pattern, please pretty please, add the name of the designer and the name of the book/website/magazine/other source you found the pattern in.

If you notice someone has forgotten this, please politely remind them, such as in the example above, so that we don't have people crawling on our backs about this that and the other.

2. If you are posting an article you found on a news source, links are nice but they disappear after a while..many people will do an lj cut and post the article itself under it for future reference. That's fine. Please try to remember to list in there however what news agency and the author who published the article, or a copy of the link, even though it will die eventually. At least it will be there for posteriety sake!

3. Feel free to post links to patterns on other sites, or give us the names of sites that have free crochet patterns. We'll try to get a memories set up going to file these under.

4. please always try to give credits where due, even if the pattern you are showing us was something your Nanna came up with, let us know so we can give props to Nanna! If it comes from a magazine, let us know for sure so that we can also look for that magazine and maybe pick it up ourselves for the other nifty stuff they have!

I haven't copied over the list of useful links from the crochet group as I don't want them hassling me for that...so..if you have useful links regarding crochet, like hook conversion sites, free patterns, yarn supply places, etc. etc...please let us know about them and we will try to get them added. If we are ever able to make this comm paid I will set up memories for reference stuff, but until I will have to pointers here.
discussion A on useful websites

Would love any suggestions as to what you would like to see in this community. Considering co moderators, accepting donations so we can expand the community and have memories and such available. If you have something cute for an community icon, please feel free to send it to me, Icons are good!

This community is set up to log the ip addresses of everyone who posts. Any non members posting in replies will be screened. If you get a non member reply that is inflamatory or abusive, let me know and I will add that person to the ban list and delete the post. Don't bother replying to it.

Though the community is not paid at the moment (we hope to change that) we are using the tags feature. You can refer to this post Administrative for information on what types of tags we are using (it is furter down in the post)and instructions on how some of it works.

Ultimately, the hope is we will have a place where people of all skill levels can feel safe to post thier best and thier worst, seeking feedback, help, information or just bragging rights and backpatting for a job well done. We can learn new tricks, tips, sites, patterns, and all things crochet and textile art related without having to worry about nasty comments or rude responses.Responses that are recieved will be kind, courteous, informative and not hurtful, snappy or cruel. If someone makes a boo boo and posts something wrong, they will be told calmly with a kind suggestion as to what they forgot to do and how to correct it.

Now which of my current 5 projects should I work on next......
