I swear to God I do... 'Tis disturbing. Came across this, and I'm staring at it and flinching. It is frequently dictated to us to refrain from meddling in others’ affairs, and indeed, we should perhaps mind our own business and leave the intricacies of fate to those more empowered than we. Yet, the terms of such tacit and oft-ignored contracts are decidedly obfuscated when what commences as harmless intervention takes the fatal, conclusive step into the infamously uncharted waters. True creation is both a duty and a privilege relegated to God, or whatever higher power one might believe in, but it is also a line not to be crossed by humanity, and both Shaw’s arrogant Professor Higgins and Shelley’s rather neurotic Victor Frankenstein display, in their respective ways, the ramifications of crossing that forbidden line. In light of that fact, it is in the Greek term of omega, defined in literary terms as “the end,” that we are presented with the true repercussions of such audacious infringement. In both Shaw’s Pygmalion and Shelley’s Frankenstein, despite the implicitly stated responsibilities that both mete out to their respective creators, it is their conclusions that draw vastly different depictions of eerily paralleled situations.Gah... Welcome to the LiveJournal community for .:*:.Polished Quill.:*:. Editing services... Please, feel welcome to join us as we ramble about the frustrating particulars of writing, cleaning up said writing, and proceeding to chuck it down a hole and bury it. It's our specialty - really. A few things to note: 1) Membership is not limited to .:*:.Polished Quill.:*:. clients - anyone interested in writing, looking for advice in writing, be it on grammar or on plot or on something else entirely, is welcome. 2) No posting your work here. You may discuss it, recommend works (in which case you provide a link), and post self-plugs once or twice, but please do not abuse this. 3) Use proper grammar. Mistakes are going to be made, but please don't fall back on netspeak - it won't get you very far. We won't nitpick typos, since fingerslips are a part of it all, but be reasonable. :) Some members aren't native English speakers, and it's a hard enough language without having to make out the slang! 5) Be civil. Plain and simple, all we ask is civility. God love redundancy. Note: reread number 4. Have we scared you off yet? No? Good! Now click that link up there and join us - you know you want to!
