Anyone have any Law enforcement forums they like or regularly frequent?

I've tried Real Police and Officer.com, both were okay, but over-run with trolls, impersonators, and haters.

So far http://www.lawenforcementforums.com is the only one i've liked, it's got a pretty strong leo verification process, with a section that only verified leos can see and post in, and a public section for non-leo to discuss, and it's got a very good set of moderators who watch out for trolls and haters and keeps things in line.

I was just wondering if anyone had any other sites they liked?

Also anyone know of any department that actually shoots their cadets? I'm not talking simunitions, or paintball, i was told that LA shoots their cadets, once in the chest, once in the back, when they can't really know exactly when. That they get the cadets to one at a time, while wearing a vest, walk down a long hall way, and at some point they'll get shot, either in front, or behind. I was told this was actual bulletproof vests, and actual ammo used, but it sounds quite absurd to me, either they are pulling my leg, got their facts mixed up, or something is screwed up in LA. Figured someone out there must know something about this. I was told they were doing this in '92. Rubber Bullets? Surely.

What is a Police Cadet

Folks, Curious - what is a police cadet?

In Aust we have various police in training programs for each state run by the state govt. State Govt employs the police then.

We also have junior programs - Emergency Service Cadets - who get a grounding in all major Emergency Services (Fire, Police, Ambulance, State Emergency Service, Marine Rescue etc) but this is for 13-16ish yr olds and does not necessarily give any real benefit for joining a service afterwards.

Generally in Aust. people are not employed to the police service until after gaining 'life expereince' and are usually in their mid 20s at least.

Hello

HI there. I'm new and just wanted to in introduce myself. I'm a Citizen's Police Academy Alumni (not the actual police, just a civilian) and I'm currently an active member in helping out my local police. So far I've helped out by monitoring the fences and a music festival and I'm currently helping in planning a garage sale to raise money for the officers and their families, should the ever need financial help. We also have plans for a Policeman's Ball sometime this spring, the procedes of which will help to buy new training equipment. I look forward to talking with everyone in the future. ^_^

Job Description

So what do YOU do as a Cadet? I work as a cadet for the community college I'm attending. Some of my job duties include: locking and unlocking room doors, doing foot patrols of the buildings, giving directions to students, citing vehicles for parking violations, unlocking cars for people who lock themselves out, jump-starting vehicles, being the dispatcher when the secretary is out, and filing paper-work. I don't feel that any of my job duties are law enforcement related but I feel like I've learned a lot just by talking to the deputies.

Hey Everyone, just wanted to know what you all are up to. Right now I've been keeping busy with school and all the various vollie stuff I do. I think I'm gunna wait to start a paid position with the department until I go thru the academy which will either be when im 21 and i'll haveta drag out my 4 year degree and make it take longer, or when i'm 23 after I graduate, it all kinda depends on how ansy I get bout not being able to help out anymore pd wise once I age outta explorers I guess. I'm still stayin strong with the wanting to join a helo crew with medevac capabilities so I'm making sure I have backups incase for any reason there arent any expected opening with fairfax for awhile, so far all I know is that va state pd has a crew, cali highway patrol does, and i believe that maryland state pd does (they have 17ish helos atleast one hasta have medevac capabilities right?) If anyone knows of any others let me know.... i want to stay in the va area if possible but would be willing to move if thats the only way I can get on with a helo crew......

I talked to my psuedo boss the other day about a SWAT Cadet position opening up, and she said that she was going to post the opening next week. The only people that are eligible to apply out of the 18 or so Cadets, is myself along with a couple others. The problem is that I don't know the intent of these other cadets and if they actually want to be a SWAT Cadet.

Does anyone have any advice on what I could do in the interview? What they might ask? How I should dress? my uniform (black BDU's and a green polo shirt)? khaki's, shirt and a tie?

I pretty much know how the whole thing will proceed, but I want to attempt to plan for everything that might happen.

Department Funding School

Does your department have a requirement that you have to be enrolled in school to become a cadet? Does your department pay or offer any assistance towards your tuition? Just curious.

Mine offers no assistance whatsoever, but does require that you are a college student, actively attending classes. The hope is that by the time you're finished with your degree(s) that you will be old enough to be elligable to test for an officer position and, in that way, it's a sort of recruiting method. Of course, cadets that don't make the cut are just let go after they're done taking classes, not actively sought after to apply and get hired on. The department here pushes their good cadets to go through the testing process, but again offers no financial assitance for anything, aside from your paycheck.

Hi everyone!

I hope nobody minds the plug for another community. I wasn't sure who the moderator for this community was or I would have asked.

I started a community for Correctional Officers. A lot of sheriff departments require their new cadets to work the jail before they promote them for the road patrol. At least that's my case.

There's plenty of journals for police officer's but not anything for the rest of us who haven't made it that far yet or who are just happy being in corrections.

If you're interested please check it out. lockupsusa

Thanks!

Taking my first police physical

Hello I was wondering if anyone can give me advice. I am taking my first police physical which consists of an obstacle course. It is over a quarter mile 470 yards to be exact and I have three minutes to do it. I know I can run a quarter mile in 2min or less, which is great for as big as I am. I am very stocky and not as quick as most of those 5ft 10 160lb guys that are testing as well. Besides running balls out until I pass out what might be some things I can do to help me pass. For example eat before, don't eat anything, supplements from gnc, ect. I am taking this test in a few days. If anyone can give me some insight that would be soooo helpful.

I just signed onto the site and looking for topics of interest and found the Cadet page. I'm not a Cadet, I actually have served 8 years as a police officer in NC although I'm not anymore due to a car wreck. But why I signed on is I was a NC L.E. Instructor for the NC Police Academy known as BLET so I thought I could help with any questions I see posted, I primarily taught Physical Training, but have also taught classes such as Domestic,Bldg Searches, Traffic Stops and I was on the pistol team so I can answer ?'s in shooting. So if I see any questions posted I'll try my best to help. Good luck to all in their careers in Law Enforcement.
