Sapphire deletes it's own files. D: HALP
I bought Pokemon Sapphire on Sunday so I could get pokemon I can't get in pearl through the pal park. For some reason sapphire deletes it's game file, and I've restarted Sapphire at least 5 times (I am tired of moving into my new house with my new room with my new clock SKGLSKHLSHS).

Do I have a glitched game or does it do this if you have Pearl in there?

(Some) Gamestops are really bad about bootleg games, especially GBA games. Someone will trade one in because they think it's broken (but not say anything), and GS'll just turn around and sell it to someone else. Someone already listed ways to check, but basically you have to be more on top of it than they are.

It's blue but you can see through the plastic.

Sounds the right colouring for it... I don't know,

"1- A giveaway for the Pokemon bootlegs is the cartridge color. Pokemon has shipped in specific colors for the different games.

2- When buying on eBay or Amazon Marketplace, be very wary of the price, very cheap = bootleg.

3- Once you get the game if there is a red sticker in Chinese covering the screw keeping the cartridge together = bootleg.

4- If the cartidge doesnt fit perfectly or you have to force it to go in = bootleg.

5- If the outer packaging for the game comes flatpacked or if you feel the colors are too bright or off = bootleg.

6- If the manual has obvious typos and doesnt look like a normal manual = bootleg.

To be honest with you, never buy cartridge based games online and when buying from a shop, keep the things above in mind. As far as the differences, the data on the bootleg cartridge might be corrupted, so the game hangs after a while or doesnt boot up at all. The battery in the game is of cheap quality and may run out of juice much sooner than the original cartridge.

I have been bitten by each of those things I mentioned and know that eBay and Amazon provide very little protection if at all when this happens."

I've seen bootlegs with the proper cartridge color (I work at a GameStop and a co-worker took in a booty Ruby version).

Is the sticker metallic? If it's not, then it's a bootleg. All the GBA pokemon games have metallic stickers.

Erm, almost sounds like the internal battery died, but I could have sworn that the GBA games use flash memory to save with. o_O; (That's the exact same problem my Silver game has; the internal battery is dead, so whenever I turn my GameBoy off, the saved file gets deleted.)

If they ended up with a bootleg, then it is a possibility that the battery died. Bootlegs use regular batteries instead of flash memory.

Like the first poster says ,its very very likely a bootleg. Check the inside of the slit where you insert the game, if it says NINTENDO, its official..if it doesnt..might see about getting your money back.

I hope it's not a bootleg, I bought it from a gamestop. D: We are going to return it anyway. I can't see Nintendo on it, but there is a giant "USED" sticker cover part of it and I don't want to take the sticker off when we return it.

It probably isn't a bootleg but it wouldn't be the first time I saw a bootleg at Gamestop or a really crappy used copy. Either way, good luck trading it in - I'm sure it will all get worked out :)

Maybe the battery has worn out? This sounds like the sort of problem I had with Gold; I got it from GameStop and the file kept deleting no matter how far I got in the game. It was the battery that had died internally. Not a lot you can do about that except get a special screwdriver and replace it.

My copy of Mario & Luigi did the same thing. I took it back to Gamestop and they said, "We can't take this from you, it's a bootleg" and I said "I know, I bought it from you," and they said, "Oh. Oops."

Stupid bootlegs.

It sounds like you got a bootleg copy, I'd take it back to the gamestop you got it from with the reciept and tell them it doesn't save. I doubt they knew it was a bootleg if they took it in, and especially if it was the right color cart. I'm the only one that knows how to identify bootlegs at my store...

I asked this before, but is the sticker on the cart shiny? I got a proper colored Ruby bootleg once, but the sticker was not shiny.

Other ways to tell it's a bootleg:
Does it say Nintendo on the motherboard? (right above the contacts of the cart, on the motherboard)
Does it easily fit into the Gameboy? (Sometimes bootlegs aren't put together all that great, and end up being a tight fit in the gameboy)
Does it have the right art? (In this case, is it shiny?)
Is the rating or nintendo seal of quality fuzzy? (lots of stickers on bootlegs are printed poorly, and those details end up fuzzy and hard to read)
Spelling errors? (It's supposed to say Nintendo on the back of the cart, I've seen it misspelled "Nintondo")
Patent info? (On the back there should be Patent pending info, some bootlegs don't have that)
Gameboy Advance font correct? (On the front of the cart it should say GameboyAdvance above the sticker, sometimes I've seen the font wrong, and a few carts I've seen just the word "Game" there instead)
Is the cartridge color correct? (This is usually obvious with Pokemon games, although I noticed the bootleg Ruby cart I mentioned before had a different texture than an official one. For other games, the carts usually end up being more of a dark blue or black color, instead of the normal dark grey)

But anyway, it does sound like a bootleg. The only reason a save wouldn't hold is because the internal battery died, and GBA games don't use batteries. =\

- I can't see if it says Nintendo on the motherboard, because that is being covered up by the price sticker, which I don't want to remove when I bring it back.

- It fits into my DS and my GBA, but it's slightly hard to get out, which I think might be because of the price sticker.

- The sticker is glossy, AND the seal of quality is a bit fuzzy.

- As far as I know, the cartridge is the right color.

My fiance and I just compared a GBA cartridge he has to my copy of sapphire and the seal of quality on his is a little metallic, and the one on sapphire is not.

:( DAMN
