About
This community is a straight-forward poetry writing exercise community. Each week the moderator (or someone the moderator selects) will post a challenge for which the members are asked to write a poem.

If a member would like the other members to critique their result, they should mention that in the post they post their poem in. Members are encouraged to respond to each other's work, but should always strive to be supportive, not posting negative comments unless a critique is asked for.

Writers retain copyrights to their works, but should understand that posting a poem here may effect its availability to publish it elsewhere. Posting here may constitute "First Publication".

Anonymous comments will be allowed, but will be screened by the moderator.

The challenges will likely be one of the following:

Poet to Poet: A poem by a published poet will be selected. The challenge will be to write a response to it. It can be a parody or an answer or an agreement or disagreement. You may mimic the form of the original or use whatever form (or lack of form) you wish.

In the News: You will select a headline from a news story. Use the headline as inspiration for a new poem. Use whatever form you want. The poem doesn't have to have anything to do with the actual news story, just with the headline.

Poetry 101: A form, style, or some other poetic function will be posted, and your challenge will be to write an example of it. (I will try to keep them fairly easy, so there's no need to panic over this one.)

Visual Verses: A picture will be selected, either a photograph or a painting or drawing. It may be artistic or not. Use the picture as inspiration for a poem.

Five Word Poetry: Five words will be selected (usually two concrete nouns, an abstract noun, a verb, and an adjective). You will then write a poem using those five words.

Show and Tell: I'll give an ambiguous description of something you have. You then write a poem that includes the item in some significant way.
