How can we fight the high levels of white privilege and stupidity in comics?

i think it's a problem we have to fight everywhere in society. it isn't going to be solved in one specific venue while there is still injustice elsewhere.

that particular post was typical white male ignorance... it's like he doesn't believe that people should be held responsible for their offensive actions. how do we educate people like that, people who already have strongly formed opinions and don't want to be convinced otherwise?

I used to try to educate them but I've given up and started just snarking. I go to comics to rest from the stupid in the rest of the world, so when my cooling off spot is invaded by that sort of stupid I get pissed.

It's like trying to tear down a brick wall with a screwdriver. And that brick wall is regularly rebuilt. It takes time and repetition. And there will be days when the racism is just so overwhelming and hurtful that you'll have to step back so that it doesn't completely break your spirit. But the next day you have to pick up the screwdriver and get back to chipping. Let people know how much the racist words and images hurt. Place a positive image next to every negative one you see. It's a small industry so your words really do have an effect. People will hear you. And after they hear you a few times, perhaps they'll even begin think about what you've said.

You're so hopeful! I'm half inspired, and half "you really overestimate white people's empathy for anyone who doesn't look like them". But I guess I'm just burned out from weeks of white people going fricking insane.
