| 03:18 pm - URGENT: Potential PMX Problem Hey Everyone, I am a fellow anime freak that lives in Westchester, CA, near the Los Angeles Airport. Something about the PMX caught my attention recently regarding where it is held. The PMX is at the Hilton LAX again this year, and I found out some messed up stuff about that hotel. I first heard about it at my church in Westchester and have since found out a lot more about what is going on at that hotel. For the last few years, the workers there have been fighting the management in order to get respect and fair treatment, , but the hotel managers and their supervisors have responded with threats and intimidations. I read some articles and found a website that talks about what’s going on there (see link below). Basically, the workers at the hotel have called for a boycott, which means they are asking people not to use the hotel at all. Since I live so close to the hotel, and this kind of thing caught my attention, I looked into it further and went to a picket line at the hotel. I talked to some of the workers and the organizers and they filled me in on a lot of the details of what it’s like to work there. I think we need to pass this information along to the PMX planners to let them know what’s going on there. I am really concerned about this issue, and I don’t think that PMX should be at that hotel. Also, I will not be going to PMX as long as it is at the Hilton LAX. Please check out the website about the Hilton LAX Boycott for more info, also I got an organizer’s name from a flyer: www.hiltonlaxadvisory.com Greg Hoffman 213.481.8530 ext 268

 | 11:56 pm - Pocky Tasting at PMX You've heard of Wine Tasting and even the Pepsi Challenge, but have you ever heard of Pocky Tasting? That's what we are going to have at Pacific Media Expo thanks to our friends at Glico! Come visit Hachi-Ichi, our room for experiencing the flavors of Japan. Hachi-Ichi will be open on Saturday and Sunday in Santa Monica C, next to the Maid Cafe.
The legal waivers took FOREVER to process. I don't have many details yet. One additional note though. They want space in the exhibit hall so they can sell their Pocky products. We are seeing what we can do to accomodate them.
So what's YOUR favorite?

About Kaba Modern .pure freestyle PMX Pacific Media Expo Kaba Modern is a street dance group established in 1992 by a group of Kababayans at the University of California in Irvine. Originally put together to perform as "The Modern Suite" at their Pilipino Culture Night, the group has evolved from being a PCN suite to becoming one of the most cutting-edge hip hop troupes in California. Since then, the group's legacy has lived on, first and foremost as a family, embracing different styles and aspects of dance, creating quite a name for themselves as one of Southern California's most cutting edge dance groups.
Kaba Modern's dedication to dance and to each other help create a unique energy that shines on stage and off, providing them with the charisma that they are so well known for. Each year's team is full of new faces adding new dynamics to the team as never seen before...
About SickStep .pure freestyle PMX Pacific Media Expo Before MTV and million-dollar recording contracts, there was rhymin' in the park. Before professional hip hop choreographers and hip hop dance classes, there was breakin' on the sidewalk. SickStep is a hip hop dance crew that focuses as much on where hip hop has been, as where it is going. To quote KRS-One, "You are not doing hip hop; you ARE hip hop."
SickStep dancers have been seen in music videos for Justin Timberlake J-Lo, Dream, the A-Teens (to name a few), and toured with such artists as Aaron Carter, Vina Morales, and American Idol's own Jasmine Trias. In addition, the crew's members have been featured in commercials for Heineken Beer, Bally's Total Fitness, Intel, and Honda -- as well as performing on such television shows as So You Think You Can Dance (Season's 1 and 2), Dance 360, BBC1's "Strictly Dance Fever", and Mad TV. Most recently, SickStep has even been seen as one of the Top 20 finalists on NBC's America's Got Talent. These dancers' work has not been confined to the small screen, though, as they have also been hired for feature films such as Groove, Austin Powers in Goldmember, and Jamie Kennedy's "Kickin' It Old School".
Widely known for teaching, as well as performing, various styles and genres of hip hop dance, SickStep frequently travels worldwide teaching workshops and master classes in both choreography and freestyle. Having previously taught at many of the top dance studios in both Hollywood and San Francisco, the group's veteran instructors teach weekly classes in all levels of breakdance, popping, and hip hop at several dance studios throughout the Greater Los Angeles and Orange County area.
About Poreotics .pure freestyle PMX Pacific Media Expo A group of three high school students started dancing together in 2005. After seeing the choreography scene, they wanted to take popping the the next level in choreography. Keeping the foundations and the roots of popping, they formed Poreotics in December 2007. They were inspired and influenced from many dancers; just want to show some love and respect to Jose, Adverb, Popntodd, Tetris, Animatronik, Tito, Tabo, Dennis, Jetli, Wavomatic, and many more.... Poreotics wouldn't be here without them.
Poreotics love to dance, cypher, perform and entertain the crowd. They want to be able to put on a good show, to inspire the younger ones, and also to be inspired by other dancers. Current Mood: ecstatic

 | 10:55 am - Regarding registration issues Hi,
I was wondering are there any representatives of PMX in this community? I have a personal issue with the registration refund; this policy in particular:

I've been sending out forms via the PMX registration form AND the PMA Customer Service, and it's been almost a week, but I've received absolutely no reply.
Are there any representatives here who can help me? Since this LJ is linked to the official site, I assume the community is affiliated.

 | 08:34 pm - CosFest 2007 - Pacific Media Expo's cosplay competition! Hey there, everyone!
Despite a late start due to a change of hands, CosFest is underway and has come together incredibly quickly! There are still open spaces in the show, so we'd love to get more participants!
We accept practically any costume with a Pacific-Asian flavor: costumes from anime, manga/manwha, film, video games, TV shows, dramas, music stars, EGL/EGA/dandy, historical recreation, culture costumes, and even original creations based on mythology, culture and folklore! Source material must come from a Pacific-Asian country (Japan, China, Korea, Philippines, Thailand, et. al.), though we will make exceptions for American-origin things that are rooted in or heavily influenced by Asian concepts (such as Avatar: The Last Airbender).
We've got cash prizes for the winners, and participants will have water, snacks and their own section in the audience.
