Hi everyone!

As most of you know by now, we are putting our annual Halloween show on at the Somerville Theatre this year, so we're going to need people for all sorts of administrative, staff and tech roles, as well as support people for those positions.  We're anxious to fill several key positions now so we can begin work on publicity, ad sales, sponsorships and technical planning for the show.  If you're interested in being involved in the operations of the show—even in just a small capacity—please let us know by sending e-mail to info@pmrp.org.

NOTE: Being part of the Production Team does not preclude you from auditioning for the show or being cast.

Below is the notice for the show and for the Production Team positions we want to fill.  Feel free to pass this on to people you think might be interested in the show and/or post it to your personal LiveJournal, blog, website, Facebook or whatever you have.  If you have ideas for theater- or tech- specific places where you'd like to post it, or think we should post it, please let us know!

Audition Announcements will follow in a couple of weeks, so stay tuned!

As many of you may know, PMRP's sister organization, Theatre@First, does a festival of one-act plays each summer. This year is no exception and I've undertaken the massive task of Festival Director! I wanted to share the official call for directors, here, since this is a great way to get your feet wet with the organization. Directing a one-act is an excellent opportunity to try your hand at directing without the commitment of staging a full length play. These are just 10 minutes of your genius brought to life!

Please contact me for a copy of the PDF scripts.

I am also looking for several production staff positions including production assistants, costume/makeup design and coordination and a few others. If you're interested in any of these, please let me know.

Stay tuned for info about auditions!

Hello, folks! As you may know, PMRP will be performing a live show at the Orpheum Theatre on December 31st as part of Boston's First Night festivities. I've been in charge of coordinating costumes up to this point, and that part is well in hand. However, we've decided that such a huge, professional venue warrants us doing stage makeup and many of our cast members have never used it, before.

Therefore, I'm asking for *your* help! Specifically, I need one or two individuals that would be free on Monday, December 29th from 6pm-10pm and Wednesday, December 31st from 6pm-9pm. The folks would help me with cast member's basic stage makeup, last minute costume issues, and possibly some hair assistance for the ladies. Our plays are, conveniently, both set in 1939, so we can have some real fun with hair and makeup if people really want to go all out.

I'm afraid that at this time, we can't offer to pay you, but we will provide you with a First Night button that will get you into other venues when the show is over at 9pm. We can also make sure you're fed and appropriately appreciated. If we find that we cannot get anyone to do this for the kudos, we will offer a very small stipend.

Please let me know if you are willing and able to help us out! Please share this info with anyone else that you think may be interested.

Thanks!

The Post-Meridian Radio Players present... "Countdown to Chaos!" — Live Radio Drama

The Somerville-based PMRP (www.pmrp.org) hosts an evening of plays performed in the style of old-time radio, just as it was done in the 1930s, 40s and 50s. Actors at microphones, live sound effects artists, and digital audio effects will transport the audience from the cockpit of a heroic Do-Gooder's futuristic spaceship, to the panic-stricken streets of a city doomed by science-gone-wrong.

Admission is granted through purchase and use of a First Night Boston Button.

You can buy a button:
*Online from First Night for $18 ($15 plus $3 shipping)

*Through a variety of retail and other outlets

ACT 1: Red Shift: Interplanetary Do-Gooder in "Countdown to Chaos!"
The PMRP brings to the stage its acclaimed original sci-fi comedy adventure program. This sendup of the pulp sci-fi serials of the 1930s and 40s features Red Shift, a licensed Do-Gooder for hire, and his faithful friend and mechanic Lumpy. In "Countdown to Chaos!", the villainous Lord Draith forces the duo to crash-land on the forbidden planet of Earth. Their ship attracts the attention of the world-renowned scientist Dr. Alberts and snoopy Penny Parker, Girl Reporter, who find themselves trapped inside the rocket when calamity comes to call. Can Red and Lumpy escape from the primitive planet, or will human technology be their doom? Are Penny and Doc destined for a sudden trip into outer space, or will they get the chance to pack first? The amazing adventures begin here!

INTERMISSION: Interactive Foley Demonstration
Members of PMRP's live sound effects (or Foley) crew will welcome members of the audience up to see how various sound effects are made and even give them a chance to try their hand at making some noise!

ACT 2: Arch Oboler's "Chicken Heart"
The infamous "lost" episode of the seminal horror series Lights Out!, originally broadcast in 1937, and immortalized decades later by Bill Cosby in one of his most famous routines. In the play, a research scientist and a science reporter for a big city newspaper are witness to inconceivable events when a laboratory accident causes a specially-treated chicken's heart to grow uncontrollably. While officials treat the scientist's demands for action with skepticism and delay, hapless citizens are consumed by the ever-expanding mass and the deadly heart continues to grow... and grow... and grow...
11th-Dec-2008 01:55 pm - PMRP on TV!
PMRP
A few weeks ago, I was invited to appear on Seriously Somerville with Jimmy Del Ponte, a show on Somerville's City TV channel, to talk about PMRP and what we do. The interview was facilitated by our good friend and Somerville icon, Tom Champion, who appeared as Daddy in our production of The Baby Snooks Show during this year's Halloween show. Jimmy had been by to see the show and help us out with some technical problems and had seemed really interested in what we were doing.

So I asked the lovely [info]gilana to accompany me to the studio to demonstrate some Foley and the result is airing on City TV all this month.

Fortunately, it's also available on YouTube! )

On October 24th, I got a phone call from someone on Boston's First Night Committee (First Night is a city-wide festival of theater, dance, music, visual arts, and film events at over 40 venues that runs from 1pm until midnight on New Year's Eve; it's a huge deal and getting a slot is very difficult, due to stiff competition) telling me a group had dropped out and that Committee needed a replacement.  The woman I spoke to had seen us several times before and wanted to know if  we'd be interested in a 7:30pm - 9:00pm slot at...

THE OPRPHEUM!!!   (The Orpheum is an historic 2800-seat theater in downtown Boston that is one of the most popular live performance venues in New England)

The performance would include a sizable budget, a sound and lighting team, and probable simulcasting on a local radio station.

Right now we have no idea what we're going to perform or how we're going to cast whatever we do decide to perform—we wanted to wait until Tomes was finished—but we are starting discussions this week and will be pulling together a Planning Committee in order to consider our options, reach a decision and begin work.

To say that we are in shock in an understatement...
