| | accomplished | ] | Wheee I won the Eurovision Party's costume competition. I won the 2008 Eurovision CD :D
Well, apart from spending the day out with Snarfie, my holidays are pretty much over. Did I get through my list of holiday goals? Let's see...
Purchase and finish a computer game DONE (Dark Messiah of Might And Magic) Finish Aequetus Sayz update DONE Do all housework, put stuff away and make it all shiny for Uni time DONE Get all emails etc. and Uni important dates into order DONE Windows reinstall/file cleanup DONE Update any other fansite DONE (Beard vs Ponytail Attend all social gatherings and make/buy four birthday presents and costumes DONE Medic Costume (about 60% done - the coat is going to take weeks now, sadly) Complete a Flash animation (30% done - the pencilled animatic is done, plus some lines, but there is still a while to go...) Complete designs, write script for Negaleg comic (20% done) Watch an entire season of something (I'm only about 2/3rds of the way through Torchwood season 2) Finish all outstanding art (still a looong way to go) Get exercise plan, thermos, and bus ticket (done)
Thankfully, I only have to go in to Uni for Monday and Tuesday this week, so I'll hopefully be able to whittle down the list somewhat.
Also, I'm addicted to this timewaster, Pandemic II.
That's it for now... |

| | blue october - x amount of words | ] | Well that went well. I saw WALL-E. It was painfully cute and also had a well spoken moral. As boy!Corey said, it's not even something you can see someday happening to Earth. No, it's something you can see happening right now.
It was also fascinating from an artistic standpoint. It was just like in V for Vendetta, where I was impressed by V's character since all of his acting had to be through body gesture and voice work what with having no real face. This one impressed me with the range of expression that the main characters could manage with such limited body movements and a very simple vocabulary. They could only really say their names and the words "plant" and "directive" and they still were not only easy to connect with, but they had very distinct personalities. It's not always what you say. It's how you say it. Gives me ideas for my book in some ways, since a lot of that revolves around a language barrier.
Also... Eve's character. She's a pod with a round head and arms that don't even have joints. There is so little movement capable there and yet she was extremely expressive. That was cool.
Plus, she reminds me of Brittany in tiny robot form. Win.
I giggled and sniffled a lot. Good fun movie.
Finally, I have my sexy shiny after all. My brand new iPod Touch is charging on my dresser and looking very sleek. I'll still use my old iPod Mini until it really dies, but mainly as a backup or something to lend to people (provided that they can tolerate my tunes). And yes, I'm naming it Zaphikel, for it likes to be touched.
Now to go back to waiting for Corey to get home. >> |

| | Crazy Love - Marianne Faithfull | ] | Prestatyn Carnival was today. XD I wish they'd stop calling it a carnival. It's a load of dirty trailers with bits of tissue paper stuck to the sides, and girls in ugly bridesmaid dresses sitting in the open boots of cars driving down the high street. SO MANY BATON TWIRLERS AND FOLK DANCERS. I forget I'm living in the land of the eisteddfod now. We had morris-dancing and well-dressing in Derby, but omg the Welsh take this shit SERIOUSLY. One of the marching bands was really good (made me miss Guide parade! *nostalgia*) but the rest, eurgh, embarrassing. It all seems very cringeworthy and AmericaniZed. It's very very beauty-pageant. SKINCRAWL. And people don't know when to give up! Seeing a Ford drive past with its boot open and a late-teenage girl in there who really should be out taking drugs and catching chlamydia, wearing a fugly meringue of a prom dress and a plastic tiara and a sash informing us all that she was the Abergele Empress in 2004... bit sad. Stop now. Give it up.
Cleverness today: burned myself with a soldering iron, dropped my purse so all my change went rolling off down the high street, stood on the poodle and made him screech, knocked a cup of hot tea all over myself (pain not so bad, but looking and feeling like you've pissed yourself is never pleasant), and rammed wire so deep under my nail I had to literally bite through my lip and make it bleed so I wouldn't black out from ~PAIN~ >.< It was just One Of Those Days.
Nothing to do with anything, but WHEN IS MYLEENE KLASS GOING TO MARRY ME? |

| Garage sales |
[Jul. 19th, 2008|01:59 pm] |
We have decided to start looking at garage sales to increase our dollar. Today we managed to find a Little People garage toy for Sam, a soft stable with 3 horses for the girls, a toy storage bin, some play dress up outfits for the girls, and a business type dress for me, all for $15. Not bad.
Now to find cheap used twin size sheets. |

[Jul. 19th, 2008|01:30 am] |
So I suck at updating.
Wednesday was the usual day off, and unbelievably hot to boot, so Hat and I went down to the mall and then out to see Hellboy 2. Which was awesome. Not quite as awesome as the first movie, and in many ways a different kind of awesome, but awesome nonetheless.
Interview on Thursday went well I think; I am reassured by the fact that I am ridiculously qualified for this job and if they don't hire me it'll only because they found someone who is, basically, me with a geology degree. So I'm okay with that. Further applications are...well, not in the mail yet, but being worked on.
Then my family came up this weekend, which I knew they were going to do and had somehow forgotten about completely. Went out to dinner last night, am going to see the Dali Lama speak in about...an hour and a half. :D
And then, hopefully, after this weekend I will be able to sit down and get some really serious fangirling going on. I did write a couple paragraphs more of Norrington fic last night, so at least that's started again. Mmm, Norrington. |

| | stressed | ] | Someone needs to kick my ass and get me to finish something, art-wise. I have the following:
( A List and Some Pieces of Artwork In Progress )
Its been the same problem all year. I have the skill, but my motivation is just shot. The result is this. I keep starting one hundred million drawings, getting partway through each one, and then getting bored and starting another. The next thing you know I'm up to my eyeballs and I can't dig myself out.
Everyone tell me that they specifically want to see one of those finished. Then I'll feel like I owe people or something and I'll get it done. Or something. Somethingsomething.
In other news, my birthday was good. Thanks flaming bunches to everyone who popped up and wished me a good one. I actually don't think I've ever had so many people remember. You're all sweethearts. <3 I'd report on my swag (because who doesn't love a bragging session?) but it's... actually not all here yet. I have at least three people who swear they have something for me, but they haven't forked it over yet. Squee! Nothing better than dragged out surprises. =D
Tomorrow we're theoretically going to see the new Batman movie... but possibly not. The boys are grumbling at me that they don't want to get up in the morning at all and see it before/at noon, and I have to be home around five. Poor Corey's flight back from Italy was delayed like crazy and she was stuck spending the night in Toronto. Come hell or high water or badgers in tutus, I'm going to be home so she can have someone to vent at/collapse in front of and babble gibberish at. So I might not be going.
I'm not sure I relish the idea of a full theatre and a gigantic line-up, of course. I don't care how awesome a movie is, I'm not sure its worth me hyperventilating. I'm not too choked up about the idea of staying home.
Besides, I'm getting a sexy shiny tomorrow if I'm home. >> Otherwise I'll have to wait for next weekend. It will be the second piece of technology I have that demands to be poked and prodded before it will give to me what I want. I may name it Zaph. That's all I shall say for now.
WHOO! ONLY TWO AND A HALF WEEKS UNTIL I'M IN TEXAS. DANCE WITH ME.
Update! Never mind. We're going to WALL-E here at the City Centre theatres instead. Much closer, much shorter, much easier to get in to. I'll be back in plenty of time to catch Corey-bug. Also means no shiny for me, probably, but I can survive another week without it. |

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JARED! (I know it's not technically his birthday yet, but whatever. I doubt I will get to use my compy much tomorrow.)

Also, I have read enough of my list to hear all about the spoilers that the CW managed to roll across the bottom of the screen. That is full-on RIDONCULOUS! That channel really blows.
Also, also, I've had to skim through my flist so fast that I haven't gotten the chance to read through things thoroughly. So, sorry if for any reason you think I am ignoring you. I still love you all. Yes. |

| on watching the S5 Project Runway premiere |
[Jul. 18th, 2008|09:27 pm] |
( Spoiler! )
In other news, Celeste and I took Chris the College Boy to see 'Wall-E' after work today, a 4:30 showing. While the CREDITS WERE STILL ROLLING, people came into the theatre for the showing of 'The Dark Knight' that would be in an hour and a half. It was a MADHOUSE- all showings from 5:30 onwards had sold out and the queues to be let into the theatres were INSANE. The management had NO IDEA what to do with them all and were freaking out. We realised that, if we could stay in our seats and NOT LEAVE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES for the next four hours, we would have the best seats in the house to see the film AND we'd be seeing it for free.
Sadly, we realised that we were all kind of hungry and would never make it without a trip to the loo, so we relinquished our seats when the credits finished rolling. Sadness! I probably won't get a chance to see the film until Monday at the earliest, but I'm hoping to see it on IMAX eventually, once Jennie's friend Andrea moves to town in two weeks. :D I'm driving up to Westport, CT for the night to visit MY Andrea for her birthday hootenary, hence the delay.
OH! Which reminds me! balefully is having a BIRTHDAY and she is LOVELY and I hope the day brings her all the Christian Bale she can POSSIBLY STAND, and then an extra serving Just Because. :D |

[Jul. 18th, 2008|05:33 pm] |
It is amazing, really, how often the fact that it is an offense under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario[1] to drag a dead horse on Yonge Street comes up in conversation ... and because I think it is perhaps the sekkrit ambition of EVERY TORONTONIAN PAST OR PRESENT to come up with a way around this...
benet no, Spadina has a streetcar right-of-way.
commodorified Ok, so Bathurst.
benet yeah. Bathurst also goes much farther north.
commodorified True. Or Jane to Black Creek? DVP also an option ...
benet *throws up hands* too far west and east resp. for me to have an opinion.
commodorified possibly it would be best to leave the horse where it is and call for transport. *dials 1 800 DED HORS for advice*
benet I'd just wait until 2 and bring it on the Vomit Comet[2]. Who'd notice?
commodorified POINT
benet nooooobody.
commodorified *hee* yeah except maybe 52 Div while you were waaaaaaaaaaaiting for the bus.
[1] Though as I just noted elsewhere, dead cows on the 401 are perfectly tickety-boo. Legally speaking, at least.
[2] All Night Yonge Bus. Rarely ridden sober, and a good thing, too. |

| Bunk Beds |
[Jul. 18th, 2008|01:24 pm] |
We are spending some of our remaining money on bunk beds. I found a posting on craigslist.com for a set of 1 year old wood bunk beds including the mattresses for $150. I couldn't pass it up. We will store them in the garage for a while, until Natalie is closer to potty trained. Chris and a friend of his are heading to Little Elm to pick them up now. We had to remove the middle row of seats to get the space but I think it will be fine. It is amazing how much room a mini van actually has. We even used the opportunity to vacuum it out. We didn't do it after the trip. We only found a single crayon and a toy car (along with the raisins and goldfish crackers). I sprayed some Febreeze to make it smell better.
I think we will end up sanding them and painting them white. We will see when I get that time. |

Filter: public.
I've taken some better pix of the cinchers, you can see them here.
The LJ-special price is $100 each, plus shipping.
If nothing moves by 10AM PST, Saturday, they're going to ebay, where the opening bid will be $120.
Reminder for the conscientious: I'm selling these to pay for Casa Cthulhu living expenses.
(but I'm spending the rest of the day playing with a fun-fund project. I promised myself that much of a reward!) |
