Does Pluto deserve a place among our solar system's main planets, or were astronomers right to demote it to second-class status? Two years ago, poor Pluto's plight touched off the dispute over the how you define a planet, but now it's about much more than one little icy world. The Great Planet Debate rises to a whole new level this week, and thanks to the Internet, you can join in the debate yourself.

The long-awaited debate takes center stage at Johns Hopkins University's Applied Physics Laboratory, which is the base of science operations for NASA's New Horizons mission to Pluto and other denizens of the solar system's outer regions.

The main event comes at 4:30 p.m. ET Thursday, when Mark Sykes of the Arizona-based Planetary Science Institute faces off against Neil deGrasse Tyson of New York's Hayden Planetarium. You can register to watch the Sykes-Tyson debate as well as other "Great Planet Debate" presentations via streaming video. The event's organizers also hope to pass along some questions for the debaters from the online audience.

I'm glad I found a plutonian community, I keep reading the libra sun description and for some reason, I don't really fit except for the "justice&peace" values the rest is all wrong. I looked at my chart and realized I had a pluto singleton in its own sign scorpio in my 2nd house squaring my other singleton venus in leo. The two planets are constantly "in friction" and this probably explains why I'm always the last one picked in sports and why I've always had so many problems with "relationships"(of any kind but especially "romantic">.>). I don't know what the "requirements" are but, this is what I've got so far. (Tell me if I'm wrong ^^)

Well umm I don't know if its major or not myself, but after researching some sites, I'm assuming its a major transit. And my life is going through emotional hell right now. So maybe this has got to do something with it. Well Pluto's gonna conjunct my Sun, Ascendant, Mercury, sextile Moon, conjunct Uranus, conjunct Venus, conjunct Neptune, conjunct Saturn, conjunct North-Node, trine Mars precisely in THAT order. And I really don't know what to expect.

Plus on top of it I've Progressed Moon in SCORPIO!!! I really don't know how to interpret such a transit. I mean I've read stuff about Pluto, but it sounds pretty scary "Major changes" "Maybe some deaths" I don't want anyone to die. So any advice on how to handle the transit??? Or any info on what I'm in for??? Because I'm really non-plussed and a little scared. Thanks! Believe me ANY help is appreciated!!!

I want to talk about Mars in Scorpio.

Some words that come to mind: seething, lust, desire, intense anger, jealousy, rage, supressed emotions, explosion & implosion, sexuality, extremes, destruction, self-destructive

I have a Mars/Pluto conjunction in Scorpio (opposite North Node & Midheaven)... it's a VERY powerful aspect (the most powerful?) in my chart (Sun/Moon midpoint, + the apex of other configurations)...

for me, this kind of stuff isn't just Mars expression ("this is the way I express my anger..") -- no -- *my whole nature/aura is expressed like this*, very obsessive, seething, supressed, coiled, etc... it's like I AM this energy...

I am a ticking time bomb.

To some degree (though perhaps more specific and/or not as encompassing/holistic/intense as my experience), I find this nature in other Mars-Scorpios...

Astrology and religion
There is a good analogical relationship between Uranus, Neptune and Pluto and the Holy Trinity as considered by the traditional Christian church.

Uranus would represent the Son of God, Jesus Christ, the eternal Logos or Word. (Uranus is the superior octave of Mercury, natural ruler of communication and ordinary words).

Neptune would represent the Holy Spirit, the "Comforter", the giver of spiritual gifts, a manifestation of God's Love (Neptune is the superior octave of Venus, natural ruler of the ordinary love).

Pluto would represent God the Father, a supreme authority that is beyond anything, omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent (Pluto is the superior octave of Mars, natural ruler of will and action).

This seems like a perfect system to describe the Holy Trinity.

But what happens now that Pluto is no longer considered an actual planet, but only a "dwarf planet"? I feel compelled to inquire - is this a SIGN?

What if something is going to happen to Christianity as we know it?

Many of you are probably aware of Malachy's prophecy: in 1139, Saint Malachy wrote this prophecy about future popes, giving a short description for each one of them. Should we be very worried about it? Isn't Pluto the astrological archetype of death and resurrection, of total transformation?
Why worry over Pluto having the same fate as its archetype?

If religion as we know it will die, it will surely be resurrected in a new form, much improved. The spirit never dies, so spirituality cannot die either.

Maybe this is just a step towards a better religion, a better life and a better world. God knows we need it and look forward to it.

Let me then say: "Pluto is dead. Long live Pluto!", in the traditional style used in various European countries when a new monarch accesses to the throne.

If Eris is trined Neptune in Sagittarius @ 13 degrees in Aries and opposed Pluto @ 13 degrees Libra, would this aspect be called a 'Yod'. If so, what would this yod imply between these planets?

I may x-post this out to neptunians later on. And unlike some others who have Pluto involved in a yod, Pluto is a singleton in the chart along w/ Uranus.

ETA: I also almost have another contender for the yod status. It involves Pluto again. Saturn at 16 Leo and Venus at 24 Capricorn. I would think that Venus is a little off-balance to be a tight yod, and if I included that, I would also have to include Jupiter in Taurus which is also 10 degrees off-balance as well.

In case someone hasn't shared this yet, I would like to do so here. I had just learned that I'm much more plutonian than what I realized. This is all about having Pluto as a singleton. I've always known that pluto (8th house) was a singleton in my chart; I just never realized the importance of its placement until recently. So it appears that I am much more plutonian than what I originally gave myself credit for.

As for Pluto opposing Eris, I'll figure that one out in due time, I suppose. I don't actually expect anyone to reply to that being that there is a derth of information out there on the subject. Anyways, I just wanted it there for the record. Eris (previously Xena) killed Pluto!

Baron: Pluto, I've got some serious questions to ask. First, how do you feel about your physical representative losing its planetary status?

Pluto: No, I'm totally kidding. Honestly, I was wondering how long it would take the dirt-monkeys to figure it out. Its a tiny ball of ice and rock, for Joves sake! Its not even as big as your goddamn Moon! Of course I'm not offended.

Baron: Excellent. Well, people here on earth have been pretty concerned about your reaction to the downgrade.

Pluto: Well Baron, to be honest with you, they're going to get my wrath one way or another. But really don't view it as a downgrade. If you had a choice, would you rather be the smallest planet or the largest binary icy dwarf planet? Just taste the words "Binary Icy Dwarf Planet." Thats fucking metal as all hell and you can't deny it.

Baron: Nor would I. You should beam that into some guitar-playing idiots head.

Pluto: Done. Expect their double-album next year.

Baron: Nice. Always a pleasure to see a master in action. I have another question: Does this change your relationship with Scorpio? Do you still rule Scorpio? Did you ever? Do you now?

Pluto: As far as Scorpio goes, I don't know if I ever Ruled it in the sense the pre-modern astrologers use the term. House cusps and all that crap. In the sense that Modern astrologers use the term, meaning that I have a very strong affinity with it, I say yes. Scorpio's focus on decay, virulence, death, vengeance, violence and obsession has always made it my favorite celestial mansion to spend a few years in.

Baron: I hate to belabor the question, but this is important. In terms of classical technique, should we consider you to Rule Scorpio?

Pluto: I'll be straight with you, Scorpio is Mars winter home. You see, I really don't live on this side of the veil, hoss. I just vacation here from time to time. But when I'm here, I like to stay at Mars' place. You've got to love a guy who uses history's bloodiest battlefields as carpet, and the skulls of heroes for cereal bowls.

Baron: Interesting. Anything to say about the rest of the Signs?

Pluto: Well, my mother always told me if you dont have anything nice to say... I dont want to gossip. But I will say: Capricorn, its you and me for near 20 years come 2008. Hold onto your oil and watch your ass, kids. Its going to be a bumpy ride.

Baron: Sweet. So back to my original question: You really aren't offended that you're not going to get so much attention anymore?

Pluto: Not at all. You see, for years people have given me credit for anything and everything underworldy that goes on in their lives, when, to be realistic, the underworld's just as packed as any heaven. If you've been reading your Scientific American, or just browsing wikipedia, youd know that your science-monkeys have discovered another 6 icy dwarves about my size and in my vicinity in the last 10 or so years. And any mythology will reveal that we've layers and layers of anti-world to keep organized. We're well staffed, and I dont mind who knows it.

Baron: No shit.

Pluto: No shit. Just as that miserable little rock is my outpost on the material plane, the other powers have their own transmitters. The astrology meat-bags have given me credit for everything dark and scary that goes in the world, whereas I'm really just the only member of the family you've met. If you took a second to think about what it means that I'm in a binary relationship with Charon, you'd understand.

Baron: Well, Charon ferries those who approach the underworld across the River Styx. My guess at what you're getting at is that you're the modern humans' re-introduction to the power of the mythological underworld.

Pluto: Baron, you're so good. I knew there was a reason I haven't killed you yet.

Baron: By your grace, Lord Pluto. I have to ask- in this whole binary relationship you have with Charon, who takes who up the you know where?

Pluto: Now, now Baron. Its strictly Plutonic.

Baron: Moving on. Didn't you like getting credit for all that, though? Doesn't it make you more powerful to have people thinking you're responsible for all of that? I thought being a god was sort of a "fake it till you make it" type of situation. Belief is food, and whatnot.

Pluto: Not at all. We gods like to be recognized for who we really are, and what we actually do. Just like you monkeys. Im tired of repping for a whole cosmological sect. We test people to give us the proper respect, and punish those who give us too much, or too little. Its a Greek "Golden Mean" type of deal. Ask Saturn, he'll explain.

Baron: Good to know. Pluto, can you tell us anything about your fellow underworlders?

Pluto: Well, like myself, they're big on secrecy, but I can tell you a little bit about those who have already revealed themselves. First, we've got Orcus, whose job is to punish oath-breakers.

Baron: Oath-breakers? We dont really take oaths these days, except in court.

Pluto: Not the silly kind of oath. The real kind. Orcus' job is to punish those who forget their destinies and spurn their fate. "The promises to yourself are the most important ones to keep" type of idea. You know Baron, you kind of look like Orcus.

Baron: I have Orcus conjunct Jupiter and the Ascendent by less than a degree.

Pluto: Ha! Damn I'm good. Maybe next time around I'll be an astrologer.

Pluto: Then theres my sweet little UB 313. Those science monkeys are getting ready to call her Xena. If they do, they will know my wrath. Its Proserpina, my wife, not Lucy Lawless. Remember the myth? You'll see she saunters around the solar system side by side with me for about half of the time, and goes out on her own the rest. If that isn't a clue, I dont know what is.

He claims to have done the cosmic disco with lady Chaos, and by doing so brought the whole universe into existence. Sort of an Apsu and Tiamat sort of relationship, if you dig.

Pluto: Basically, Charon and I have been the acting diplomats for the underworld for 75 years now, but the graveyard of the solar system is full of tombstones other than mine. You call it the Kuiper Belt. Our underworld council is ready to start participating more directly in your daily affairs because it seems like you monkeys need a reminder. Hi everybody!
Very pleased to find and join a Plutonian community, hope to discuss and share many good Plutonian issues. In my chart Pluto is conjunct Sun ~3 deg. in 1st house (sign Libra). I also have Mercury, Venus and Uranus in Scorpio (2nd house) and Chiron in 8th house (Taurus). In addition, right now I'm under tr. Pluto trine n. Moon tranzit...hehe :-)

My Pluto related interests are: psychology - have a BA in it, astrology - started getting interested in it during Pluto to Neptune tranzit, spiritual development, science, research and very emotional and intense works of art: music, books, paintings etc. On that notion, continuing tsuzuki26 's thought, Phantom of the Opera deals with lots of Plutonian issues.

Hello, I'm glad to be here. I've reccently been very curious about pluto, and how in functions in my chart.

Here's what I have:
Pluto in first house conjunct ascendent by 7 degrees (my ascendent is 27 degrees Libra though)
Pluto in 1st house
Pluto in scorpio
Saturn in scorpio (also in the first house)
Grand water trine with Pluto, moon and venus/mars (both conjunct in pisces in the 5th house)

My chart is behind the cut.

I'm very curious pluto's influnce on my first house, especially the ascendent conjunction. Does add some scorpio flavor to my Libra ascendent.

Let me know if you notice anything else interesting in my chart.

"Some astrologers report Pluto as conjunct the Galactic Center (the exact center of the Galaxy) at 26: 00 Sagittarius. That is not accurate. The Galactic Center is at 26:55 Sag., closer to 27 Sag.. The pluto conjunction with the Galactic Center does not occur until later this year, December 28, 2006. It is very important at that time, although it is within one degree of the Galactic Center all year, Pluto retrogrades on April 1, 2006(actually March 29, 2006) and misses an exact conjuntion until December 29, 2006. We will feel the effect all year. This even occurs every 248 years so it is indeed significant".

pluto in scorpio-dignity
pluto square sun(sun in leo)
pluto square mercury(mercury in leo)
pluto quincunx mars(mars in aries, moon in aries)
pluto sextile neptune(neptune only earth)
pluto only water

as you can see pluto is pretty stong in my chart...

whenever i take which zodiac sign are you really? tests i always get scorpio...and ive always been attracted to anything dealing with secrecy and the occult...anything dark and melancholy...but also light and breathtaking...like the phoenix :D :D

ooooh any info or interpretations on these aspects?

I'm new here. I joined because I've been told I'm Plutonian, but I'm not entirely sure that I am. I actually think I'm much more Mercurian. What exactly does it take to be something-ian? Here are my Pluto aspects:

Pluto 14 Sco 59'41
Sun 12 Sco 12'28
Mercury 8 Sco 24'53

I also have Mars in 0 Sco, but I think that angle is too wide to be classed as a conjunction. All of my Scorpio planets are in the 7th house.

I have quite a few other aspects to Pluto, which you can see in my chart.

How strongly Plutonian would you say I am, if I am Plutonian at all?

8th House Pluto in Scorpio (conjunct south node) square 12th House Sun, Venus, and Mercury in Aquarius. Eeek. *hides* Oh, and it forms a sextile with Neptune, as if that could make up for all the damage it does. ;-)
