Randomness

Hi, my new friends from Friendopocalpse part 9 billion! I don't want to write an intro post right now, but I'll post some pics to show you the people who consume the greater part of my time:

Me and the man

Katie and Ben

Both Katie and I chopped all of our hair off a few weeks ago - mine has grown just past my shoulders now and hers is chin length. But some quick things to catch everybody up - Ben wll be a year old next week, Katie just turned 10, we're getting married in October, and our families and jobs - like pretty much every one else's - are insane. I work from home, but my days are nuts.

So Bren got activated to work at one of the hurricane shelters here yesterday morning and he doesn't know when he'll be home. He's going to get "disaster pay" for his time, but he'd much rather be here. I'd rather him be here, too, but what can you do? His mom was here most of the day yesterday helping with Ben, but she'll probably get activated today. Katie is home from school. We haven't gotten much storm activity yet up here in Jax, but we probably will soon.

I really want to start cooking and baking more. My mom was shocked to see me be "Susie Homemaker" but I'm not, really. I just like preparing good food. We registered at BB&B for a shitload of kitchen stuff - Calphalon cookware and bakeware, a Kitchenaid mixer, all sorts of gadgets, etc - and I'm daydreaming about using them.  :) There are a few things that I can make really well - my family devours my meatloaf and my spaghetti - but I'd like to make more things from scratch. If only I had the time. I'm working on reorganizing our apartment and my time so maybe I can start squeezing things in. But I don't really think my family will appreciate it that much. Their favorite meals consist of chicken or beef covered in dried onion soup and mushroom soup baked and served with rice. And I gotta admit - it's pretty darn tasty. But what I really want to do is start getting rid of most of the high fructose corn syrup fom our diets. And that's going to take some doing.

Speaking of doing, I'm going to go spend some time with my kids before I gotta be chained to my desk for 9 hours. Catch you later.

I never really posted too much, but some of you might remember me. I was the American living in Switzerland, and planning a wedding Ireland.
We got married on August 2nd, and honestly it was the best night of my life. It was all one big happy blur!! I ended up getting my hair done, but did my own make up. ?y dress was J.Crew´s Sophia, picked up on ebay for 100 bucks!
Everyone says it was the best party they had ever been too and NO ONE, except grandparents, went to bed be for 3 am. We didn´t head up to our room until nearly 6 and people were still celebrating.
The hotel, Trident Hotel, offered AMAZING service in helping us plan a wedding from far away, we had never actually seen the venue or met the director until a week before the wedding. If anyone is thinking of a destination wedding in Ireland, this would be a great place.
Anyway, I don´t have any profession pictures, but I will offer a link to a small facebook album of pictures taken by some friends.

Am I the only one??

Am I the only one who's made themselves sick with wedding stress??

Most of my wedding stuff has gone quite smoothly, but trying to coordinate planning a wedding 2 hrs away, finishing school, my fiance's work stress, classmate idiocy, my mother's criticisms, everyone else's complaints ("why is it a dry wedding?" "why is the wedding going to be so small?" "why can't your fiance's niece be the flower girl?" the latter comes after announcing that we didn't want kids in our VERY small wedding, for numerous very good reasons), and the drama with the religion of the ceremony (we're Wiccan, and most of both sides of our family is quite Christian and are not always necessarily supportive/understanding, so the concept of a handfasting is confusing and upsetting for some of them) has made me quite ill.  I've had gastritis for almost 2 months now, and even with medication, I'm still symptomatic and have lost nearly 6 lbs, which puts me under 100lbs, which is not good.  I know I "just need to relax", as everyone I've explained this to has told me, but oohh man, it's so not that easy, and trust me, I've been trying!

I'm not trying to be all "poor little old me!".  I know weddings are stressful, and that a lot of people have WAY worse stresses than I do, I just feel like I'm the only one who's having such a bad reaction to it all-most of the brides here seem much more composed in the face of much worse situations than those I'm facing!

So, again...am I the only one who's actually made themselves sick over their wedding??  How did you cope with being sick and finishing everything up (tastings, for example, have been torture...I barely got 2 whole bites out of my cake tasting!)?  For reference, I'm getting married in about 2 months.

Engraved Wedding Ring & Pics

So I picked up my engraved ring last Friday on my way home from work (I was the poster asking about jewelers script). Tonight I decided to take some pictures as I want to add these 3 to my guestbook in sequence. I'm hoping to send the order in for my guestbook next Monday or Tuesday. I just need to get S's approval. As we still don't know the definitive groomsmen I'm only listing my Maid of Honor and His Best Woman formally instead of the entire bridal party. 45 days till the wedding as of today. We are doing a MyPublisher photo guestbook. =-)
My ring reads, "one ring to bind them 10/5/08" I didn't want the jeweler to include the quotes actually, but what's done is done. I have the worlds longest quote so I should be happy it was done at all. I had to pay extra to have it hand engraved as the machine could not go small enough.

I live in a rural town on the south coast of Australia so there isn't many wedding resources in the area so my Fiance and I are going to do quite a bit of travel for alot of our wedding wares, luckily we have wonderful restaurants and clubs around that specialize in great seafood and other cuisines so that will be a load off our mind. we will be attending a Bridal Expo this sunday which I'm looking forward to ^_^

A squee, a thank you, and an Usher question.

First of all, our invitations went out on Monday, and we have already received 5 RSVP cards! 4 were yes, 1 was a no that I was already aware of. My great uncle, who is a preist and is officiating our wedding responded with a big YES written on the response card, which I thought was adorable.

Secondly, thank you to EVERYONE that responded to my minor hair meltdown. I am going in for a trial Saturday, and will be sure to post results and thoughts.

And finally... ushers. If you are having them, and you are doing pictures at locations other than your ceremony/reception site, are you including them? I don't particularly care either way - our ushers are 2 of my male cousins that I love dearly and I certianly would like to include them, but I also don't want to put them through the extra hassle if it's not the 'norm'.

Unity Candle Idea

so I was just going to make a generic unity candle until my aunt suggested that instead of using ordinary white candle sticks, that we instead use each of our baptism candles. I thought this was a great idea! Just wanted to pass it along.

pocket squares

Hey everyone, thanks for the jewelry suggestions, I've found some stuff I like on etsy and now I just have to choose!  I got my dress from the alterations place today and I have a bunch of extra fabric now. I'd heard that some people have their groom's pocket square made from the excess fabric from their dress but I have no idea how you'd do that. I'm not crafty at all so I'd need someone else to do it but who? Thanks for shedding some light on this for me! I know he'd love that :)

Online RSVP find!!

Hey,

In case any of you feel like doing your own RSVP online but can't figure out how, I bumped into this website last night: www.formlogix.com

They allow you to make your own web forms (including, of course, online RSVP pages!) which you can embed in your own website (if it allows HTML embedding), or you can just link to it for your guests!

Oh, and the best part: it's free!!

Just thought I'd share this info; might help someone! :)

Has anyone here ever bought a wedding dress without trying it on first? I'm quite in love with this Mia Solano dress (M242C) and it seems the only authorized dealer in my area doesn't have any of her dresses in stock (much less this one for me to try on). I'm quite taken with it and I'm not sure what to do...

I love this dress! )

tipping cake baker?

I hired a lady to do my fiances grooms cake. It's not going to be at the wedding though, she's actually delivering it to the bachelor party. Should she get a tip? The cake is pretty expensive and she is charging me a delivery fee. what do you gals think? If so, what percentage?
