Welcome to the Plunkett Awards community!
Hello, and welcome to the Plunkett Award LJ-community.  What we have here is, at the moment, a discussion board for people who want to help with the Plunkett, in some form or another

I suspect that if you're here, you already know what the Plunkett Award is, and who the Plunkett of the title is -- if you don't know, however, here's the description, currently:

The Plunkett award is for the work of speculative fiction (science fiction or fantasy) in a given year that best explores and expands on class issues.  We are using a broad description of "class" here, to include both economic class and social class.

It is named for Edward John Moreton Drax Plunkett, better known to speculative fiction fans as Lord Dunsany.  It is my hope that the same people who come up to me while wearing one of my many Tiptree T-shirts, hear the story, and get the point at once will be the people who understand the discrepancy, and the connection, between Plunkett and Dunsany.

I had been kicking around the idea for the Plunkett for nearly a year, since the Carl Brandon awards were announced at WisCon 29.  It was not until I heard [info]bookzombie say, at the "Books You Bounce Off Of" panel at Wiscon 30, that he bounced off books that handled class poorly, that I realized I had another possible co-conspirator in getting the Plunkett award off the ground. (Little did he know what a single remark could turn into...)

So, if you want to join this community, please contact me, and I can set you up as a poster.  We're looking for volunteers, advice, and ideas -- just please be aware that we probably can't take all we can get of any of the three of them ;)

Welcome to the community!
