McCain's VP Pick Palin Facing Ethics Investigation

"For most of her tenure as governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin has enjoyed widespread popularity and a reputation as a maverick who refused to stand by fellow Alaska Republicans facing their own ethics scandals.

But the 44-year-old Palin, who was selected as Sen. John McCain's running mate today, is now the focus of her own state ethics investigation as part of the so-called "Troopergate" scandal, a bizarre controversy involving the firing of a state police chief and his reluctance to fire an Alaska state trooper, Palin's former brother-in-law who has been involved in a bitter custody fight with her younger sister."

I mean, nevermind the fact that she has nno idea what a Vice President even does (Source).

1) So much for counting the votes right. Guam got fucked out of two electoral votes during the Democratic National Convention. What the hell, Dems? What the hell? The elephant riders are supposed to be the ones screwing us over vote wise.

2) Speaking of, McCain chooses a woman for his veep. I did not expect that level of sheer friggin' GENIUS from him. He might actually have a chance now. An actual chance.

Subject:What's Wrong With This Picture?
Security:Public
Mood: cynical
Music:"Ain't That A Kick In The Head"

The other night, as I was eating gherkins and watching a True Life Movie starring Debra Winger as a woman who recovers from a brain tumor only to discover her daughter had died in the Columbine High School Shootings, I thought to myself, what's wrong with this picture?
Not only was I outraged by the thought of so crass a movie (true or not), I was equally outraged by the thought of sitting there eating pickles and watching the damned thing. For two reasons: Firstly because I myself was crass enough to watch it because I thought it might cheer me up to watch a movie about someone whose life was more depressing than I found mine at that moment, and secondly because I was sitting there alone eating pickles and wondering why I was sitting there alone eating pickles. Which made me even more depressed. So I decided three things:
1. I would make a concerted effort to improve not only my physique, but also my breath, if I wanted to get an actual date that wasn't arranged through the NHS. So pickles are out, and breath mints are in.
2. I would find a Carer's Support Group so I could find a place to vent about PSM (and caring for her) where I'd be amongst people who wouldn't-even with the best of intentions- say "You're a saint. I couldn't do that..." Don't get me wrong, I truly appreciate the support I get from y'all and my other friends, but really I've finally accepted that I need to spend time with those in pretty much the same situation as me, and therefore get some much needed perspective. And also maybe get a date, of course....
3. I would pause and think about other matters that make me think:
What's Wrong With This Picture?
1. Michael Jackson is 50.
I know the numbers add up, but this still freaks me out. perhaps it's the "Let's Call It Ageless And Formless" face, but I just can't think of him as being half a century old. Strange white skin, Yes. Normal grey pubes, No.
2. McCain Selects Female Running Mate.
Yeesh I hate the Republicans. I should probably have expected them to do something as expressly cynical as trying to court the liberal vote by countering the Black Presidential Candidate with a Female Vice Presidential Candidate, but it still gets my goat. And, truth be told, there are few things I fear more than a politically conservative female.
3. Eva Cassidy Has A New Album Out.
Now admittedly Wikipedia can be somewhat unreliable, but hasn't she been dead since 1996? For someone who was apparently undiscovered during her Alleged lifetime, she seems to have rather a hefty amount of high-quality un-released material. Does no-one else think that this is just the slightest bit dodgy? Admittedly, I was never a fan. She always sounded like a fairly mediocre bar act to me, and I have always belived that it was the wistful "Somewhere Over The Rainbow"/This Girl Is Dead gambit that made her last posthumous albums etc so successful.
I ain't so sure she's actually dead. I think it's all a marketing ploy so she doesn't have to spend all that tiresome time touring, and yet we can all weep to our hearts delight every time she delivers a wistful rendition of a song that someone still officially living has actually sung better. Bear in mind that she was cremated, so to all intents and purposes, there is no corpse.
I could believe Norah Jones being dead. After all, her tediously breathy tones sound to me like End-Stage Emphysema Set To Music. But she's been in a movie, so probably not.

On reflection, I should probably work on not only the physique and the breath, but also on the relentless cynicism.
Is there a Support Group for that?

Kitten

Mens' PTSD clinic waiting room: After three years, this is the first time I've seen this place.

The Womens' Center waiting room: toys. Because, you know, men don't have kids. Or care for them. Oh, wait, men have women to do that for them!

Magazines at the Mens' PTSD Clinic waiting room. Men never have kids or care for them, it seems.

Magazines at the Womens' Center: Parenting. Womens' Day. What the hell does womens' center even mean? Day care and fashion? Parenting? Girlie stuff? What it means is one little area in the VA isn't devoted solely to men. Look, here's proof:

Here's womens' service in the military: teddy bears and Barbie dolls. In uniform. And there's no recognition that women are serving in the war that's going on right now. They'd no doubt put a desert camo teddy bear in there.

Dusty photos from the Second World War. In fact, the most recent reminders of womens' service you'll find here are of the Viet Nam war, nurses, who were non-combatants.

I could go on, but frankly, just looking at this stuff makes me pissed. It's been three years, and I've just been referred to the Nightmares Study for the first time. The first time. Am I pissed?

Here's some morning glories to finish.

Looks like SurftheChannel just added season 1 of Poltergeist: The Legacy to their stuff. I had never seen the show, (the fact that it aired on Showtime would explain that) so I watched the first episode. It’s...a bit horrifying, but I think I might like it. Except for the demonic baby part being born in a day or so. Ick. Oh, and if anyone watches it--did anyone else think it looked like the Buffyverse vampire faces, whenever the possessed shopkeeper looked demonic for a moment? I thought it did a bit.

EDIT: Turns out the pilot episode was a movie (explains the length) and was rated R, according to IMDB. That explains that.

Up until now, all I knew about the show was from one fanfic crossover with the 90’s Dark Shadows.

I also watched the first episode of La Femme Nikita a few day ago (same site) and didn’t really care for it. If they manage to find and add Forever Knight and Witchblade, (which is on their list to find) I’ll watch it.

Also, for those that are interested, there’s The Fall Fandom Free-For-All, located here. It’s multi-fandom--people have a wish list the types of stories they want, and others try to fill the request. So far, I haven’t spotted a fandom I watch that I could do--but hey, I’m only as far as page 3 right now. I doubt I’ll ask for anything.

Seriously, I think donating money to this place for birthday gifts and stuff like that is a wonderful idea. Several people have sent me this: now go forth and multiply and put it on your own blogs.

This is going to be bad.

You can criticize her for lots of things---her record, her positions, her 'gay friends' she won't support with rights----but who cares about what she looks like, huh? If you do, you're sexist. Simple as that.

This is going to get very ugly, and as feminists, we've got to point out sexism against her. Once again, you can count on Melissa McEwan to do the right thing.

Subject:McSame---or his advisors--might be cynical, but it's not stupid
Security:Public

McSame's picked a woman Sarah Palin, the Governor of Alaska, for his VP pick which, like his messages of support and respect for Hillary Clinton, are cynical gestures designed to make him look good. What they do is point out what Obama hasn't been doing. The things he's said about Clinton that are supposed to be compliments have been vague, forced, and patronizing. McCain's, while clearly motivated by wedge-driving, have struck the right tone. Palin's more of the same.

Sarah Palin will backfire on McCain. He underestimates the depth of Repub hatred of women. She'll lose him some votes because s he's a woman and she has five kids. Unless she's using BC, she'll have another in office.

Meanwhile, the conservative Republicans who were undecided might go for it. There were Repubs who were impressed with Hillary's class and grit; they might switch to McCain now, but Hillary made it clear that she wnated her voters to support Obama. "Were you in it just for me?" In the end, she herself wasn't, and neither was anybody with any of her class and character. (Anybody who votes for Palin....Need I say more?)

One thing's for sure: the US has finally joined a lot of countries in the rest of the world, where women and black candidates are common. Either way the election goes, it's now one for the ages.

Today we got three of the four packages we were supposed to get and the last package is missing somewhere, maybe on the truck, maybe in the warehouse, who knows.

"You'll just have to come back then, won't you?"

"Yeah, I'll come back," he grins. "People will talk."

"Hooray," I laugh.

And he grins a bit bigger.

- Palin is a woman just like Clinton
- Palin is three years younger than Obama
- Palin Is just an inexperenced as Obama, if not more
- McCain ran ads saying that he wasn't going to run negative ads yesterday, then ran negative ads yesterday
- McCain makes his annoucement the day after Obama does his thang at the DNC
- The Republicans have resorted to the same pandering and hypocritacal tactics. First McCain changes EVERY STANCE HE HAS EVER HAD TO TOE PARTY LINE, then he selects a vice presidental canadate based on her gender.

So, if you don't think any of that has anything to do with anything, then I have some music videos for you (completly unrelated of course):

I'm telling ya, that last one has the best bass line in a rap song. Evar.

Oh, and as always, [info]boztopia put all this better than I can (Well, I provided a pretty damn good soundtrack).
