Notes: AU-ish. This was an answer to the_sunri's theme of "running out of time" in a positive way. I guess I interpreted it a bit too literally, but whatever. You'll read it anyways, eh?

Yes, if only the alarm clock could shout and tell its owner to wake up, it probably would’ve. It probably would’ve taken drastic measures by now. But alas, all the poor alarm clock could do was well; ring its poor lungs out.

Triiiiing…

Another thing could be said about Colonel Roy Mustang. Oh, if only he could shut the alarm clock up so he could go back to sleep and continue on dreaming about miniskirts and things alike.

Actually, Roy Mustang is well capable of doing so, turning off his alarm clock that is. Rather, it was a question on whether he wanted to turn the alarm clock off or if he just wanted its batteries to run out.

“Holy shit!” Jumping out from his bed, he suddenly remembered why he turned on his alarm clock in the first place! “What time is it?” He said as he picked up the clock, and after a lot of ringing, turned it off.

Roy Mustang, like any others, tried to be a gentleman every time he could when with a lady. Being a gentleman also meant being punctual. Most of the times, he need not worry about this since most of his dates were after work. But there was always that odd occasion of having a breakfast date.

Today was one of those odd occasions.

7:55 am

“Aw man, you can’t be serious.” He groaned, after seeing the time, “It can’t be!” He dropped the clock and quickly went into the bathroom to clean up and prepare some coffee to be lucid enough for this date.

8:05 am

“Okay! Ready to go!” He said as he fixed his hair one last time before stepping out his apartment. This date was going to be perfect, of course. He already had the details planned out perfectly. Just like a soldier going out to a war zone.

No puns intended, of course.

Just as he was about to step out of his apartment building, he came face to face with one of his worst enemies. And no, he wasn’t talking about Bradley. (Although Bradley outside his apartment building, waiting for him, was both scary and disturbing mind you.)

It was raining. Or precipitation as some would call it. Droplets of water from the clouds falling back to the ground, one of nature’s cycles as everyone knew. Roy Mustang on the other hand, wished it wasn’t.

Groggily, he dragged himself back up his apartment suite to get two umbrellas, just in case. (Even though he knew his date was always prepared.)

8:08 am

Riiiing.

He twitched. Why was everything ringing all of a sudden? Was it the rain? It probably was.

“Hello?” He answered rather smugly. Who could be calling him at this hour? Work? His mother?

“It’s raining.” The voice on the other end of the line said as-a-matter-of-factly. “We can do this some other time, you know.”

Roy chuckled, “I’m fine. Where are you?” He was secretly wishing she wasn’t there yet.

“Payphone by the place we were going to meet at.” She said bluntly.

“Why are you there so early?” He asked, wondering.

“Oh, I wanted to know what they had so I’d know what to eat.” She said, him imagining her shrugging it off.

“Really Hawkeye.” He groaned. “I’ll be there in ten minutes.”

“Okay.” And she hung up.

So much for being a punctual gentleman, Roy thought.

8:15 am

Oh this is just perfect. He was lost. He could ask someone but really, who was out on the streets this rainy morning? No one.

He kept on wondering why he got lost, seeing as he’s been to a bar right beside it almost every week. It would just be ridiculous to say that the place looked different during daytime.

Well okay, maybe he really did think that.

8:20 am

“What can I get you this morning, miss?” One of the waitresses asked her cheerily. They must’ve noticed her seating where she is just reading a book and not eating anything.

“Just tea, please.” She said politely.

“Waiting for someone?” The waitress asked.

She chuckled, “Yeah, he’s always late.” She said in an unusually pleasant tone.

“He must be lucky to have someone like you waiting patiently like this.” The waitress winked and then added, “I’ll bring your tea out in a couple of minutes.”

She simply smiled.

He was always late, she knew that. She didn’t mind. Sometimes, she wondered why she didn’t mind. Was it because she always knew he was going to come? It wasn’t really something she thought was important to bother about, so she just went back to reading her latest literary purchase.

Roughly between 8:29 and 8:30

“Hawkeye!” She heard someone come towards her, “Just so you know, I am not late!”

“Good morning.” She said, not even bothering to look up, as she sipped her tea and flipped the pages of her book.

Roy sat across her. He stared at her, hoping she would look up and tell him to stop staring, but for some reason, she seemed immune to his childish games. Of course she was, he thought as he hit his head with his palm lightly.

“Are you okay?” She asked.

“Perfect.” He grinned.

“Okay, ready to get breakfast?” She asked casually.

“Yeah.” He nodded. “What do you want? My treat.”

She chuckled, “You’re generous today.”

“What are you talking about? I’m always generous! Really, Hawkeye.” He said as he pretended to be disheartened.

He heard her chuckle as she put her new book on the side and smiled at him.

“Let’s consider today a date, shall we?” He grinned.

“Stop acting like a child, colonel.” She said, with one of her brows raised.

“I am not acting like a child!.” He huffed. “Fine, be that way.”

“Okay.” She sighed.

“Okay what?” Roy blinked.

“Let’s consider this as a date.” Hawkeye shrugged.

“Really?” Roy was shocked by this statement. Not that he wasn’t serious about the date part, because he really was, what he didn’t expect was her answer.

“Free breakfast, right?” She smiled.

Roy burst out laughing.

And they went on with their breakfast date.

Whenever they had these breakfast meetings, or breakfast dates as they’d probably call them from now on, it seemed as if all their problems and worries disappeared. They were just a couple of normal people enjoying each other’s company rain or shine.

He stood there, alone.

He was watching.

Listening.

Feeling.

Hoping.

Hurting.

Waiting.

He was a lot of things, and was doing a lot of things.

But to me, he was only one thing. He was Roy Mustang. No any other words, besides those, his name, could describe who he is, and what he means to me

He is Roy Mustang.

“Lieutenant,” I hear his voice. That same voice I hear over the seconds, minutes, days, months and years we have spent together. Only now, it seems to sound a tad bit different. I often wondered why. But it really does not matter. “Perhaps we should go back. You seem to be dozing off.”

I nod and follow him.

“You’ve been awfully quiet.” He remarks, even though he is fully aware that I am always quiet.

“What do you want me to say?” I answer, almost sarcastically.

He chuckles.

“How’s your boss?” He asks, this time mockingly.

I smirk. Usually, he does all he smirking. But really, “You tell me, sir. I’m quite sure you had tea with him this morning.”

He gives a little groan.

“The stars sure are beautiful tonight.” He remarks, looking up in the skies and opens the car door for me.

I laugh this time. “Changing the subject, eh?”

He closes the passenger door, luckily, before I even put my hands near it. He does this in a rapid movement. He comes closer, I can hear him breathing on the back of my neck. It’s an odd sensation, really.

“What are you doing?” I ask him.

“What do you think?” He retorts as I start to feel his hands moving along my waist.

I turn around, facing him, my back against his cold car. I see the surprise in his eyes, which gradually turned into an amused expression.

“Sir, why are you laughing?”

“Sir?”

“It comes out automatically.” I shrug.

“I guess.” He sighs, and finally opens the door and lets me in.

He starts staring at me.

“Anything on my face?” I ask.

He shakes his head. Leans towards me and gives me a light kiss and grins.

“Time to get you home lieutenant, we have work to do tomorrow.”

I smile at him.

Tomorrow’s the day.

This one I made randomly last night, staying up till 2 since I just HAD TO wall this image. Kinda crappy in my opinion. Hahaha. It looked different under a different screen (My screen is like old and is not bright at all XD). And as you can see, the Japanese text is still there. Hehe.

Two o’ clock in the morning.

He sipped his tea as he closed his book. He had no idea it was this late already, perhaps it was the book that had enticed him to stay up, or maybe time just went by so quickly.

As he stood up, he noticed someone peering through the door. Normally, he’d have his sword ready to pierce whoever that person behind the door might be, but this one was different. It was a little boy somewhere around the age of 4, 5 or maybe even 6 looking at him with those sleepy eyes.

He smiled, “Now Selim, why are you still awake?”

The boy pouted, “I couldn’t sleep.” He said simply.

Ah, fatherhood. He put his book on his study table and headed with his son to the kitchen, hand in hand.

“Father…” the boy said quietly as he watched his father scurry about with making him milk… if that’s what the concoction he is making, “I’m hungry.” He said a little embarrassed.

The man looked at his son. He must’ve looked a bit funny with his expression on his face, not to forget that he does have an eye patch, but he was certain that he had no idea on how to solve this problem. “Er, what would you like?”

“Mother has some left over ravioli.” He said politely.

Oh how tempting it was to call someone to cook for him, but for some reason, he just threw a plate of ravioli, without the plate of course, into a frying pan and started heating it up.

This might be the oddest sight, he thought to himself.

He looked at his son who was smiling ever so happily at him, it made his heart skip.

Ack, I need sleep, he thought smugly to himself as he poured the ravioli on another clean plate and put it in front of his son.

“Thank you!” His son was grinning. No, not like an idiot as he would’ve called most of his subordinates (useless would also be a nice term for them), he was grinning as if he had…well… as if he had found something he was looking for.

“It’s hot Selim.” He said, nearly forgetting to warn him. It was a good thing he hadn’t forgotten, he thought to himself, or else there’d be a crying boy in his kitchen.

Him being in the kitchen was already wrong in so many levels, too.

After a few minutes of him watching his son eat, he felt hungry. What on earth was wrong with him tonight?

“What’s wrong?” He asked, noticing his son stopped eating and was just staring at the plate. Why he was so accommodating tonight, he had no clue whatsoever.

“I’m full.” Selim said, slightly yawning. Ah yes, manners, he said proudly as he noticed his son trying to stifle his yawn. “May I go to bed now?” He asked with those big beady eyes of his.

If the generals ever see this scene, I am so dead, he told himself, but for some reason, he just smiled and nodded as he watched his son wave good night and ran along back to his room.

He must really think about getting his son a permanent, stay-at-home maid.

He sighed, sitting himself on the table, he found himself eating the ravioli he had heated up. It was a good thing that they were thought to cook, he sighed proudly.

“It’s not that bad.” He told himself as he finished up the plate of ravioli.

The clock chimed, it was 3 in the morning. Only for more hours before he officially starts being Führer again.

Lack of sleep does make you cranky, he thought fondly.

Ah, that’s perfect.

He grinned as he excused himself and headed for the bedroom.

Nothing better than some good, old subordinate tormenting to look forward to in the morning.

Roy Mustang cheerfully tapped his pen on his table. No matter how many times he looked out the view down his window, he still couldn’t digest the fact of his current rank. The Fuhrer of Amestris. He wanted to cackle out loud whenever that thought passed by his mind.

(Of course he did… he now had the power to make the all the female employees and soldier of the Amestris Army wear micro-mini-skirts all day if he wanted to!)

The Fuhrer. He finally did it. There was yet another thing to be done, but that could wait for a while. After all, he was still slightly injured from his bout with the now disappeared former Fuhrer of Amestris, King Bradley.

(The details, too sketchy, and Roy tries as much as possible to preserve what really happened in his mind… after all, eliminating the Homunculus with the Elric brothers might be one of his shining moments – next to being Fuhrer of course)

Of course, the amount of paperwork was increased, but he really could care less.

“Hey boss,” A chubby man holding a paper bag filled with what looked like groceries saluted and then proceeded to talk, “Maintenance says they need those papers they submitted to be signed… you know.”

“And…” A rather tall man added even before Roy could whine, “You have to go to the official ceremony at North for all the soldiers that helped with the battle. Major General Armstrong insists.”

“Lieutenant General Grumman wishes to have the papers he had sent you back, he says it’s important you went through them too…” A short man with glasses added quickly.

They all went out the room laughing and chatting and probably off to visit Havoc. There were times Roy wondered if it was a suitable move to have his old subordinates work for him again.

(They are all, after all, slave drivers.)

He sighed, better get these done, he thought smugly. Picking up some of the papers, trying oh-ever-so-hard to read what all the scribble is all about, he heard the door of his oh-ever-so-large-and-spacious-and-just-plain-awesome office open.

Another set of papers and crap, he thought, wanting to jump out of his window.

“Your excellency,” A female voice called, “Your morning tea.”

A blonde placed an empty cup of tea on his desk, away from his office papers, and poured a fresh hot cup of tea.

“Hawkeye,” He groaned, “You know I hate tea.”

She smiled, “I know,” and pushed the cup gently towards him. She really didn’t care whether he would drink it or not.

“Been waiting to do this for a long time?” Roy smiled as he picked up the cup and politely tried to drink the evil concoction she calls tea.

(Not that he thinks everything edible she makes is an evil concoction. Actually, Roy likes almost everything Hawkeye makes for him. He especially likes that chocolate cake she makes and shares with the rest of his subordinates, though he’d really wish he had the cake to himself. But back to the point… Roy just hates tea.)

“Ouch.” He moans as he spills some on to the table (oh pity, the papers, Roy thinks sarcastically). Why he had tried to gulp half a cup so quickly, he didn’t exactly know. He curses under his breath as he tries to clean the table up.

She helps, “It is hot, you know.” She says mockingly yet oddly, there was a sweet tone to it.

He chuckles softly, “Yeah, I noticed. Another one?”

She looks at him, wondering and slightly worried. “My tea didn’t burn your brain, didn’t it?”

He smiles, “Nah, I am just a man of my word.”

“Hey, Hawkeye.” He tries to sound as cheery as possible as he noticed a familiar figure walking down the street, this rainy day. “Mind if I walk you home?” He tries to sound as calm and as casual as possible.

Nothing to it, just an old co-worker walking with an old co-worker, that’s not illegal. Technically, they still work together, really, just not together physically.

He speeds up to her, with his umbrella on his hand.

She doesn’t saying anything. She just smiles. God knows he missed that smile. “How are you, Colonel?” She asks.

“I’m good.” He tries to laugh, “Well you know, I learnt how to organize more stuff, and well do the things you and the others used to do for me.” He says sheepishly.

He always did act like a child. A child with the noble dream of saving this blind country ruled by a king with one eye.

She just laughs.

“You know, one of these days, I am the one you’re going be serving tea to, not some old pirate wannabe.” He grins at her puzzled and worried face, and shows her to her apartment door.

And bids farewell.

Temporarily.

Italicized on the first part of the story are ROy's thoughts, etc and the italicized on the last part are a flashback of some sort. This was made randomly. ^_^
