i'd like to know what the song is about (man-sized)

Hello, everyone!

I am not a native English speaker, so sometimes it is difficult for me to understand poetry hey-ho!!!ho-ho-ho-ho (which is in English).

Please, would you tell me about the "Man-sized" song. First I thought the song is about a very tall woman suffering from different pshycologycal problems, connected with the fact that she is actually as tall and big as a man.

But then i understood the song is about a teenager who wanted to seem a grown-up.

Please, explain the meaning to me, thank you!

Favorite PJ album? Stories.
Favorite PJ song? Toss up between Horses in my Dreams and Plants and Rags.
Favorite PJ collaboration? Nick Cave, Henry Lee. I love Thom Yorke, This Mess We're In as well, though.
Favorite PJ video? I'm not familiar with artists' videos at all really, sorry.
How long have you liked PJ? Mm...about three years.
How did you get into PJ? I can hardly ever remember how I got into artists, it's strange. But, I remember I just kind of got Stories on a whim because I'd heard it was good, and I'd heard Good Fortune and liked it. I loved the album as a whole and listened to it often. Later on and during a difficult time I bought more of her albums and they helped me quite a bit, still do.
What is your least favorite PJ song? The Mansize sextet, I can't stand it. (I love Mansize, though.)
Have you seen PJ live? If so, how many times? Nope. Someday I would love to see her.
What are a few other bands that you like? Jeff Buckley, Cat Power, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Fiona Apple, Joni Mitchell, The Smiths, Joy Division, Nirvana, Placebo, Smashing Pumpkins, Hole...I love many.

I'm new to this hole livejournal-thing. This is my first entry ever, haha :P

Favorite PJ album? White Chalk, but Uh huh her is a véry good second.
Favorite PJ song? The dancer, It's you, Broken harp, the mountain.
Favorite PJ collaboration? With Josh Homme or Nick Cave. Can't choose.
Favorite PJ video? C'mon Billy! I like all her video's, but this i my favorite by far.
How long have you liked PJ? Since... summer 2006, or maybe it was in the fall.
How did you get into PJ? That kinda funny - i've seen the movie Interview with the vampire 2 years ago and in that time I was REALLY obsessed with that movie. So, i spent hours and hours on youtube watching music movies. The most were crap, but there also a really beautiful but sad movie with an haunting song, called Who will love me now. I was curious who that 'PJ Harvey' was so I watched Down by the water and i fell imidiatly in love with her and her music.
What is your least favorite PJ song? Horses in my dreams. I don't know why it exists. I can't stand it.
Have you seen PJ live? If so, how many times? No, i haven't. Since I've been listening to her she hasn't visit the Netherlands yet. poor me.

New John Parish and Polly Jean Harvey album(UPDATE)

From John Parish's website:

Recording has been completed on the new album, which is being mixed by Flood in June. Release date to be announced soon.

The album comprises 10 songs and 1 instrumental, music written by John and words written by Polly. Other musicians featured are Eric Drew Feldman, Carla Azar, and Giovanni Ferrario.

It doesn't say when this was posted. You can check the source, maybe I missed it. (???) But either way, I'm really looking forward to this.

hello my fellow polly lovers. so glad i stumbled across this community. pj's music has been very important to me throughout my life, as well as a big influence personally. basically i just think she is totally amazing, definitely the most talented rocker in contemporary music today.

probably is this desire?, it never fails to move me. i am currently addicted to white chalk now, though. :)

wow. i have a lot. "ectstasy", "the devil", "the mountain", "the river", "a perfect day elise", "working for the man", "missed", "yuri-g", "the letter", "white chalk" ... to name a few.

about 12 years now. i've been listening to her longer than everything else i listen to (except for maybe bjork i think)

i'm not exactly sure. i think i read an article about her in rolling stone (lol), was intrigued, and went out and bought rid of me on a whim. i felt like i should start at the beginning.

PJ Harvey to Issue "The Devil" Single

Swooping down on CD, 7", and digital packets of data and such comes "The Devil", the third single from PJ Harvey's stark and stunning White Chalk LP. The tune will be backed with the previously unreleased track "Liverpool Tide", which NME reports dates back a decade. "The Devil" emerges March 10 in the UK on Island.

Polly Jean and her band have a handful of dates on the way at the moment, including one tonight in Melbourne, Australia. No plans to return to the U.S. right now, but we can watch her perform on the March 21 episode of Nigel Godrich's TV show "From the Basement".

And, should you need yet another reason to worship this woman, she and John Parish will meet yet again for their follow up to 1996's Dance Hall at Louse Point due later this year.

Hi there. I'm a rather new PJ Harvey fan--I hadn't heard anything of hers but "Who The Fuck?" until just a couple months ago. I've since purchased Dry, Rid of Me, To Bring You My Love, and Stories... and I'm having a fantastic time experiencing her body of work. It's been a long time since I've gotten into a musician in such a way. :)

Anyway, I'm wondering what peoples' theories are on what "Teclo" is about. It's becoming one of my favorite songs by her, and I'm interested to hear what other fans think about it.

My idea is that it's about a loss of faith or spirituality of some sort, and a yearning to have that back; possibly because one is going through something really difficult and feels a need for some spiritual support. But I have no idea who or what Teclo could be!

Also, PJ seems rather private, but does anyone have any idea about her religious background? Many of her songs seem to be rather heavily influenced by religion, so I'm just curious. :)

Haven't seen many but I like Down By The Water, and The Piano video is intriguing.

I've heard her name thrown around by the music press and I found Rid Of Me at a second hand CD store. I bought it and loved her ever since.

I have yet to see her live. She's coming to my part of the world (New Zealand) next month, but I'm leaving for university the week before which means I'm too broke for the ticket and travelling/accomodation money. It breaks my heart, really.

What are a few other bands that you like?

The Veils (I believe them to be one of the best NZ bands around), Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Dresden Dolls, The Cure, David Bowie, Bjork, Kings Of Leon, Muse, Patti Smith, Peaches, Placebo, Smashing Pumpkins

Also, since White Chalk seems to be dividing fans, somewhat, lately, I thought I'd put in my opinion. The music press were yet again frothing at the mouth over the new PJ Harvey material, as always, but most people I talked to didn't actually like it. My English teacher, who is a fellow PJ fan, said it was 'crap', to use her words. So I was pretty apprehensive when I finally got around to buying White Chalk. It kind of glossed over me my first few listens, however, I'm finding that I'm liking it more with each listen. It's probably her most challenging album being so far removed from her back catalogue. It's not quite on my favourites list, and I'm not sure if it ever will, but I am appreciating White Chalk a little more with every listen.
