A/N: I'm somewhat stretching on the prompt for twilight20 and I have a feeling this scene will become a longer story, as it's unresolved at the moment. Stupid plot bunnies - it was supposed to be a drabble. First time writing in this fandom, so hopefully, I didn't mess it up.

Something's Wrong with Alice

This was impossible. If he was actually capable of sleep, Jasper would be convinced it was a nightmare. He had seen a lot of horrors in his time, but the blank look on Alice’s face, the lack of recognition in her eyes, was the worst of it all.

Especially since it didn’t make any damn sense.

“Alice…” he said gently, stepping closer to her.

She backed away from him – further evidence that something was completely wrong – and he glanced worriedly at Carlisle, who appeared equally as lost as Jasper was. Jasper said, “Don’t you know who we are?”

“Why would I? One minute I was walking along the road and next thing I know your friend…” she paused and frowned disdainfully at Edward, “…was forcing me into his car.”

Jasper wanted to grab her, shake her, and hold onto her until she remembered who she was, remembered him and their life together, but he was afraid of scaring her. The last thing he ever wanted to do was hurt Alice.

“Alice, you’re a member of our family. You and Jasper are married,” Carlisle offered up.

Jasper met Alice’s gaze. Something flickered there for a second, but she shook her head and said, “But I don’t know you. Any of you.”

“What you do you remember?” Carlisle asked. It was probably a good thing that all clear thought had abandoned Jasper because Carlisle was much calmer with his questions than Jasper would have been.

She shrugged. “I’m not really sure. I was at the airport this morning and then it’s like a fog over everything else…”

Jasper clenched his fists against his thighs. He was going to rip apart whoever did this to her. He looked to Carlisle and said, “I knew I shouldn’t have let her go off on her own, but she insisted.”

Carlisle reached out and patted Jasper’s arm. He said, “We’ll figure this out.”

Edward stepped closer to Alice and stared at her for a minute. He glanced to Jasper and Carlisle and said, “I think the Volturi were involved.”

“Did you see something in her mind?” Jasper asked

“She’s right about the fog. It’s really hard to read, but it just feels like something they would do…” Edward paused and focused on Carlisle, “But why?”

“It leaves us blind if they decide to attack,” Carlisle replied.

Edward growled and said, "I thought we handled that."

"Not well enough," Jasper replied. Rage coursed through him and said, "If they touched her..."

“Would you stop talking about me like I’m not here?” Alice interrupted, her voice laced with annoyance.

A small smile formed on Jasper’s face – his girl was still in there – and said, “We’re sorry. We’re just trying to figure this out.”

“Don’t you think I should be included in this discussion? I am the one who suddenly has no memory of a husband and family,” she countered with a sigh.

Carlisle stepped closer to Alice. She didn’t back away this time, simply crossed her arms over her chest. Carlisle said, “You’re right, Alice, and I’m sorry. I’m going to want to do a few tests on you, if you don’t mind.”

“Tests?”

“He’s a doctor, Alice. He won’t hurt you,” Jasper replied.

Alice nodded. She stared at Jasper for a moment and said, “And you’ll stay with me?”

The small smile grew a bit larger and Jasper said, “Of course. I’d do anything for you.”

She smiled and said, “Okay then.” She turned to Carlisle and added, “We might as well get this over with.”

Carlisle opened the front door of the house and motioned for her to follow. She hesitated, glancing at Jasper, before walking inside. As Jasper moved behind her, Carlisle patted his arm again and said, “We’ll figure this out.” Then to Edward, “Edward, make a few calls around to our friends and find out what you can about any vampires with this kind of power.”

Jasper had to believe that the answer was out there, that Alice would be back to normal as quickly as this insanity had befallen her. There was no other option.

We must head over to Wikipedia and ask them nicely not to merge the Cullens together, because they're all as important as each other. Don't be rude though, 'cause they'll just laugh at us and tell us to ... go away. Just merely state that you think it's a bad idea and possibly why.
