Has anyone recently taken/known someone who has recently taken a driver's license test in Greensburg? If so, what does it entail? All of them seem a bit different.

Thanks!

I took it in Greensburg last winter but I failed. :(

Damn parallel parking!

Aw, damn, I was kinda hoping it was one of the places that didn't do parallel parking.

Was there a specific number of tries for parallel parking or only really one? At the one closest to me, you get three "back ups" which, depending on how much of an asshole the guy is, means three tries or only three times that you can put the car in reverse.

I also need to take the road test and I keep hearing about the place in Rochster as being pretty easy. Easy being a subjective term of course.

I and many of my classmates in high school had the option of taking the test in Rochester (being from the area and all). I've heard good and bad stories with the testing there. I suppose it all depends on who you get. I avoided it all and took the drive up in New Castle. Wasn't bad there (My "tester" was an easy guy to please) but it is a long drive for most.

Rochester like the one in Beaver, you mean?

My local one is the one at Duncan Manor, and it's insane. I think they give us all the DMV employees who should be disgruntled postal workers, or something.

That's really funny... my most local one is Rochester, and everyone ran for Duncan Manor in high school because it was supposedly the easiest one and Rochester failed all! Ohhh, Pittsburgh DMV gossip :)

(But really, Rochester isn't so bad. If you're worried about parallel parking, I found it really helpful just to go to the DMV the night before I was taking my test and park the bejesus out of my car exactly where I'd have to do it the next day.)

Are you from out of state? Parallel parking is required in PA.

I've also never had a guy that let three back ups = three complete tries, and I've been to four DMVs (none in the Pgh area). Here are the current standards for parallel parking, as explained to me by one of the DMV guys:
- Three pull ups and reverses
- You can hit the curb as long as you do not go up on the curb
- You need to be within the lines, but you do not need to be perfectly straight or six inches from the curb

Well, you've definitely gone to easier ones than my local one at Duncan Manor. I know people who have failed multiple times because they've done one of the things you've listed.

And there's actually one up here where you have a choice between three different things, one of them being parallel parking, so you don't have to parallel park. It's just booked all the time, because that's where everyone goes for the easy test.

Really?? What were the other two things? A three-point turn, I assume, but what else?

The things I mentioned were the line from all four guys I had. They said it's official DMV policy now, so I have no idea why anyone would have failed for them. Unless their instructor is the king Dick of Dickdom.

I think the third one was backing up some long, winding driveway, or something. Which I would have been better at than parallel parking.

Well, I just took the test and failed because I hit the curb, and was also told I only had three times to back up, not three tries to parallel park.

No hitting the curb. I just got mine last year up in Kittaning and that was a huge no-no.

You could just get really good at parallel parking and solve the problem all together. :P

Okay, maybe I did state the obvious, but it's not that hard to do a one or two parallel parks once in a couple of days until your drivers test.

Yes, because after my parents' 14 hour work day, we really have time to go out, at night, to whichever sketch parts of town have parallel parking so I can practice. Not everyone has the free time to take their kids driving every couple of days, you know.

I agree. If you can't parallel park, then maybe you're not ready for a license yet. :/

Yeah, it was definitely three tries. It also had to be done next to a Jersey barrier (not a sidewalk) which made me feel kind of uncomfortable.

I just went an only got three reverses, not three tries. So it must just depend on her much of a bitch the person is.

Go to the one in Washington PA. The guys there are so much more easy going then in Bridgeville (othe rplace I went). And the space you parallel park in is big enough to fit a semi. Just watch your rolling stops.

WOW, am I glad I took my test in bygone days before this requirement was in place. If I had had to parallel park at 16, I would have been screwed.

I failed at the one in Greensburgh for not being able to parallel park, but I passed at the one in Uniontown even after running over a bunch of trash on the road and running a stop sign.

So, Uniontown is pretty easy? Or do you think it was a fluke that day?

I went there because my friends told me it was easy. I don't really know if one place is necessarily easier than another, though; I think it is all speculation. When I took my test at Greensburg, I probably should have failed. Then again, Fayette county isn't known for having high standards in anything, so maybe Uniontown is a good bet.
