Phoenix - Art and information (Gen; PG-13)

Fic title: Phoenix
Author names: [info]parenthetical and [info]zooey_glass04
Artist: [info]ladyvyola created not one, but two awesome covers for this. They're beautiful and so right for our fic <333 You can also see them on her journal - please go over there and give her lots and lots of love! We cannot really do justice to her awesomeness.
Beta: [info]aynslee did a fabulous job of betaing and Ameripicking this, and turned her betas round in a phenomenally short amount of time. We really appreciate her hard work - thank you darling! <3
Notes: The lore in this fic is based on real Yakut mythology, but we've taken many liberties with the source material. No disrespect is intended to the Yakut people.
Written for the [info]spn_j2_bigbang challenge. Icon and navigation header made by [info]zooey_glass04 using bases and brushes by [info]starlit_designs.
Genre: Gen
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 30,018 words
Warnings/Spoilers: Spoilers for episodes up to and including 2.15
Summary: Set post-2.15 - Tall Tales. Sam and Dean investigate a nursery fire in Phoenix, Arizona.

The acrid smell that hit them was painfully familiar, though Sam tried to ignore it. He saw Dean register it too; his brother moved one step closer, hand poised by his gun.

Too many bad memories.

The room must have been the nursery, but there was almost nothing left to show it, save a solitary singed strip of wallpaper next to the door with a discoloured rainbow on it.

I hit [post] before I was done cheering. [facepalm]

I really adored the supernatural ethnic mythology behind this one, and the twist that it wasn't necessarily something evil. (A demonic but benevolent parasite that nevertheless reacts badly to 'Christo'? Never saw that coming!)

Ah, hasty posting means two nice bits of feedback for us! <3

I'm so gleeful that you liked the mythology. I could ramble on for hours about the lore we built up on this, but I'll spare you, ahahah. Suffice to say we thought of the demon / parasite as sort of out of its rightful context, so it would have been seen as benevolent in the culture it came from, but still count as a demon in a Christian sense. *represses urge to ramble more*

Glad you enjoyed! Thanks so much for the lovely comments!

Thank you so much for the lovely feedback! It's great to hear you enjoyed it. And characterisation is really important to us both, so I'm pleased it worked for you here.

Thanks again! :D
