GOLDENLAKE DRABBLE TOURNAMENT
PROMPTS
The Drabble Prompts for the Goldenlake Drabble Tournament:
1. Switch
The first drabble prompt is “switch”.
Chose a character, an event, a relationship, a decision, or so on – and switch it. It could be as fundamental or as insignificant as you like. Take a good person and make them evil. Take a success and make it a failure. Take lovers and make them enemies. Take a question and change its answer.
Pick something, or someone – and switch it.
2. Numbers
The second drabble prompt is “numbers”.
Numbers can represent a lot of things. The time of day something happened. The amount of money you owe someone. The decrease in your fortune. The age of your child. The years that have passed. The lovers you’ve had. The lives you’ve taken.
Pick a number, and explore its hidden meaning.
3. Villain
The final drabble prompt is “villain”.
The villains in both Tortall and Emelan are very clear – or are they? Take a villain, and give them shades of grey. Expose something about them. Did we realise they were bad? What motivates them? What are their weaknesses? Give them some depth and humanity. Maybe we’ll like them – or maybe we’ll fear them even more.
And don’t forget – one person’s hero can be another person’s villain.
PLEASE NOTE: Entries CANNOT be submitted before May 1st or after May 31st.

Judge Sign-Up
I am opening up applications for positions on the judging panel for the Goldenlake Drabble Tournament. These will be open until late April.
Important things to know:
- Judges need to be available to read anywhere between 10 and 30 drabbles in the first 3 weeks of June. Do not sign up if your are unsure whether you will be able to conform to the timeframe.
- Judges are still allowed to enter, but will not be permitted to mark their own drabbles.
- Judges will be marking drabbles against a set of criteria provided to them.
- Judges will be expected to keep their identity a secret - not just to competitors but to other judges.
- Please complete the following application form. There are only a few positions available on the panel. Successful applicants will be notified via email.
- When allocating panel members, applicants with a wider range of reading experience may be given preference (because the more books you've read, the more you'll be potentially able to mark).
- Preference may also be given to non-defaulting Piercefic 08 judges, who are strongly encouraged to reapply. Please note that you do not need to mention whether you were a Piercefic judge in your application - I know who you are.
- Keep in mind that the judging panel will be relatively small, and there will not be room for judging defaults.

While we realise a drabble is strictly 100 words, we are happy to take a more open approach and allow up to 250 words, if participants prefer that. Or we can compromise and have two separate categories.
If we have a standard word limit, prizes will be awarded within the prompt categories. If we have two word limits, prizes will be awarded on word limit categories regardless of prompt.
