anyone else do picross puzzles in games magazine?
about ten years ago (maybe more), my mom had a subscription. she never looked at it, so i used to take it as soon as it came. a lot of the puzzles in the magazine were too hard for me, but for some reason i started trying the picross puzzles. they even had some two color ones.
i somehow missed out on the original mario's picross game. i got very excited when i heard about the DS picross game. i started looking for a version online, but i couldn't find anything good.
now, to my complaints for the DS game:
sometimes when a number should be grayed out, it isn't. like if a row has "2 4 1" and i have a section of four squares filled in, the four should be grayed out, no matter what else in the row is or isn't filled in.
the memory part of daily picross is really inconsistent in its level of difficulty.
i don't like how it scrolls when the puzzle is larger than 10x10. i'm not sure how they could improve it. i just know that sometimes when it's scrolling, it makes me tap the wrong square. i should probably just be more careful though, as i sometimes tap the wrong square even when it's not scrolling.
if you tap the wrong square and it's right, it fills it in. i don't like filling in squares accidentally, so i would like to be able to undo these fills.
when loading stuff on wifi, it automatically takes me back to a loading screen even if there isn't anything else i want to load... if that makes sense.
otherwise, i'm hooked. i usually play before i go to bed every night. this has caused me to go to sleep late several times.
last night on a whim i checked to see if there was finally puzzles to download. and there were. i downloaded the two packs of classic puzzles. |

| download our exclusive picross grid kit |
[Sep. 6th, 2007|08:43 pm] |
Here is my handy-dandy, super-stylish PICROSS kit!
Includes:
- four stylish, blank, picross grids: 5x5, 10x10, 15x15, and 20x20.
- 'fill' and 'x mark' graphics to use on these grids. You don't need to use these, you can simply use the paintbucket/fill tool to fill in squares easily, and simply mark a dot in blank squares, leaving unanswered squares empty.
- a set of picross ds style digits in gif format, I also threw in the actual font that you can install and use for yourself. (WIN only, you will have to go here to obtain a MAC version)! I just updated the READ_ME in the kit with font installing info.
I may expand on this set in the future, but this should be good for now. Use these to display your home-made puzzles on online (for people who don't have the DS game, or for those lacking a wifi connection). they could also be handy for displaying partially completed puzzles you may have gotten stuck on, so that others may be able to assist you. There are many uses, I hope that they do come in handy for you.
[right click + save] here to download the complete set of templates, graphics, and the special font! This set was created entirely by me, with the help of a snazzy little font called 04b03b from one of my favorite websites - 04.jp.org.
Here now is an example of how all of the set elements look when put together using photoshop (you should be able to do the same even using MS paint, or any other graphics editor). Pretty neat huh?
All comments and suggestions regarding this set are welcome! [ NOTE ] Do not feel obligated to use this set for posting here. If you dig it, please do! If not, I will not be offended at all! I'm just being a helpful fan and moderator. If you would rather use a different set, or your own template, or any other method (someone mentioned excel)... please, please do what is most comfortable and convenient for you. |
