Puerto Iguazul.

Today I wandered into the Devil´s Throat. They say that the negative ions created by waterfalls can make people happier. I couldnt stop smiling the entire time.

Which is a definite change from the past few days, in which Ive found it incredibly difficult to perform this action.

Im coming home in 5 days. I am no longer with love. Im going to the beach.

[i]william_benton: It's His World

Rock star tour bus pulls up.
Onto the street pours two stereotypical road crew types: aging hippies, adorned in denim, an earring that should have been abandoned many years ago, stinking of cigarettes and beer. They're "the roadies", man.
They come to the front desk and present themselves to the best of their abilities. I reciprocate because that's my job- to be nice (even when I'm not). They immediately fill me in on the fact that we will be waiting on Rock Star to wake up.
"Is there a time we can expect him to emerge?"
"Nah. It's his world, man."
I overhear the conversation. One is the bus driver and he is the fifth driver of the tour as they keep quitting. In fact, this is Mr. Bus Driver's last trip as he has officially quit and #6 of the tour is en route to relieve him.

Meanwhile, they have to inspect Rock Star's room. They know what he likes- what he NEEDS.
I open the door and let them in. They go in different directions, gandering at the walls, the windows, feeling the bed and such.
"Do these windows open?"
"Uhh. No. Not yet."
"Good."
They go over the iPod station. (We have an iPod in every room.)
"Is this part of the room?"
"Yes, we have one in every room of the hotel."
"Go ahead and take it with you. He'll steal it if you don't."

The roadies return to the bus. They set up two lawn chairs on the sidewalk in front of the hotel and wait for Rock Star to awaken. (It's his world, man.)

A few hours later I see some activity. People are scrambling. He has risen!

Surrounded by four or five handlers, the Rock Star enters. He is a whisper-thin fellow with a head covered with a ridiculously over-sized black hat. He moves like a marionette made of jelly. It's a slow crawl of a walk, led every step of the way by anxious assistants pointing him to the elevator. He is pale, hunched, and seemingly unaware of the hooplah he is generating within his own camp.

Life goes on downstairs but occasionally someone asks about Rock Star. He has been in the news since his "clean-up", rehab, prior band break-up, current band reunion; it's all smiles for Rock Star.

Riiiiight. He's clean. I couldn't be more convinced that this man is full of heroin, right now, at this moment, if I had personally witnessed Iggy Pop and Gibby Haynes hold him down and insert a turkey baster full of horse up his ass right here in the lobby.

A few hours later Rock Star emerges.
He hasn't changed clothes but he is holding a bag and a hot pink digital camera.
It's my job to be nice.
"Good afternoon. Is everything OK with you room?"

Rock Star looks at me from behind his giant black, Bono-esque sunglasses.
"Man, it's greeeeeat. I mean...this place is greeeeat. I mean...a museum and a hotel is just..........greeeeeeeeeat."

"Well great. If you need anything just give us a call."

"I'm gooood. I just got my new camera..."
It dangles from his finger- this petite Barbie-esque toy of a camera. It was bright pink and looks like it set somebody back $100.
"I'm going to go take some shots, ya' know?.....I love downtown, man...."
"Excellent. Well, you have fun." (Because I'm nice.)
"Heeeeeey! I will!!! No one ever tells me that, ya' know?"

Do they have to?

I finally finished the first book of short stories by Amy Hempel called "Reasons To Live". She is an outstanding minimalist writer I heard about at Chuck Palahniuk's Cult site. The next collection I'm reading is called "At The Gates Of The Animal Kingdom" which I'm sure will be just as good.

[i]william_benton: Drive-In Horrors!

I received an e-mail the other day that said I needed to call Cheaptickets as there was a problem with our honeymoon flights. (I am not fond of those third party companies but, considering that we wanted to go to Key West and how that would involve some flight-trickery, I went with them and got a decent price.) I called one day, spent and hour and a half on the phone, and got nothing accomplished. Yesterday, I was on the phone for three hours- and it got fixed. Let's hope it stays that way.

We went outside to find our car had endured an "egging" like no other. It was covered. And it smelled pretty bad.
(I find it hard to get mad about something so silly, but, when I think about if I actually SAW it being done, I would have probably shot a gun in the air or something. So maybe I'm not as laid back on this as I'd like to believe.)
We went to the car wash to unegg the car. That was fairly painless.

We came home, I made some vegetarian tacos, and we took off for the drive-in.
It was about the most beautiful day you could ever ask for. We had to get there early as the festivities brought a hellified crowd the night before and we weren't able to get in.
We got in, and walked around a lot.
Primarily, we were there to see the original "Phantasm" on the big screen, which was a nice enough treat in itself. The other big reason was that "The Crazy Babysitter Twins" from "Grindhouse" (more precisely, "Planet Terror") were scheduled to be there. (See below.)

I guess they're pretty close.
Angus Scrimm and other "Phantasm" stars were to be there as well. I always enjoyed his introduction to the "Phantasm" DVD and love interviews with him. He will be 83 in a few days.
But, my shame was that I was most excited about the twins. I had grand visions of posing for submissive photos with them: one bending my arm behind my back, another with her foot to my face, pinning me to the ground...well, it was not to be.
We were quickly introduced to the fan convention format, something that Jazzy and I were not too familiar with. The assembly line thing was sort of weird- like I was bothering everybody. They were charging $10 an autograph so we figured wed get the twins autograph and then Angus Scrimm's. Well, the twins counted as TWO autographs, which I felt like debating. But I didn't. I felt very out of place and was ready just to get the hell out of the way. The twins were nice enough, chomping at some sort of drive-in meal, they signed my photo and said a very gracious thank you. We were out of there with our $20 shame.

"Phantasm" was a lot of fun, as always.
"Mirrors" followed and it was TERRIBLE. So bad. So lame. It was so boring that we struggled to make fun of it.

Today is the Faun Fables show. I am going to practice ome guitar. We might hit the YMCA. I'd like to hit up an IHOP, to tell the truth.

I'll post drive-in photos now.

[i]william_benton: Recapulated

Last night Lucky Pineapple all met at the Third Street Dive for $2 Red Stripes and to talk with our new "manager", McKinley. He's a sweet guy that has always been anxious to help us and seems energized to actually be somewhat employed to do it. He works hard and has connections- I guess that's better than most.

I barely slept last night. I stayed up too late watching Cassavetes stuff and the Harry Smith Project show.

Dave and Su called bright and early and picked me up. We arrived at the WDRB studios and were greeted by plenty of nice folks. It's a much smaller operation than you'd expect but everybody was nice. They all thought that us showing up in pajamas was amusung. Oddly enough, this particular Friday was "hawaiian shirt day" around the office so we were far from the most foolish looking...........

We soundchecked between commercial breaks which was odd to do. We could make noise for 45 seconds to 3 minutes and a stage director would start waving his arms frantically when we needed to stop. It worked though.

The hosts of the morning show were familiar to me only through local press and occasional, coincidental segments I'd see here and there over the years. It always struck me as corny but that's typical morning show stuff. However, on the set, they were all really funny and even a bit weird- which made us like them very much. They were even good sports about wearing leis, despite the fact they were dusty and dirty.

The first song, "Moonlight Spiderbite", went well. I was proud of everybody as Iknew that some were really nervous. Everybody played well even though we couldn't hear each other very well at all. The horns were slightly out of tune with us but that's bearable. The mix was bad but that's TV.
There was a bit of a break then they returned to us. I was introduced as "lead guitarist and spokesperson for the group" which made me shake my head, probably. They asked about the name, a questio to which there is little to no story. I don't recall the other things said. It was OK. I introduced everybody. That wasn't too hard.
We closed with "Old Data, New Signal", a song that was too long and we knew would be cut off- but we thought we'd get farther than we did. We didn't even get to the second half!

Anyways, it all went well and it was fun. I'll upload some photos soon.

We are off to the drive-in to see the original "Halloween" and to hopefully meet Mick Foley.

Good night, y'all.

[i]hossmosis: New Glasses

Gone are the Black D&G classic specs you know and love! In with a more professional look: a handsome Tortoise Burberry

http://images.nettillect.com/ef/pr/3838555095210258_L.jpg

The proportions are a little different in my model but I've opted not to hunt for a picture of the exact frames.

I am, so far, unable to get a reliable reaction because, though the staff at the workplace noticed the change, I've made contact with few people other than those office folks. Pictures of me in said glasses will follow shortly.

[i]william_benton: Outfoxed

I am home from doing the Fox in the Morning thing and I am soooo tired.
BUT- it was fun. A lot more fun than expected. The crew was great and very laid back.
Here is one of the songs we did: http://www.fox41.com/Global/category.asp?C=131801&nav=menu1404_7
It's TV sound which is bad. That's always understood. But oh well.
The gave us a disc of it. I got home, popped it in, and watched 15 or so minutes of a black screen. Oh well.

I think I need a nap. I'll post pictures and maybe some behind the scenes video soon.

[i]discountcandy: the most beautiful dream in the world!

okay, so i just woke up from this AMAZING dream.
it started out in this huge maroon room.  it was night time and pretty much my entire family was in it and we were all in sleeping bags.  all of the people in the room were female (but all related to me).  my mom was sleeping next to me.  and my sisiter was on the other side of the room.  i believe my aunt was on the other side of me.  anyway, wewere all there because of the olympics.  only the olympics were in Dubai, India.  after sleeping in the huge red-ish/maroon room, i woke up and started walking around.  i went outside and saw this little passageway between a building and a metal fence.  there were small trees growing in the passage way and few spiderwebs, so i knew it would be a difficult route, but i went anyway.  after walking through for about 3 yards, i noticed a native african girl following me.  she had a protective look on her face, but i kept walking.  as i passed these wierd looking trees, i noticed some had these enormous colorful flowers on them.  but actually the flowers were the trees, they were that huge.  i stopped to look a one flower and then it started opening up.  the flower had these amazing little pokey things on the inside, like eight or nine.  they reminded me of the things from Kung Fu Hustle that opened up to darts.  i continue walking and then i hear this shhhhhiiing!  noise.  i look behind me and there are those little pokey things that were on the inside.  sure enough, theyre poisonous darts.  so i freak out and hold my binder up against my neck and face.  the girl that was following me gets in front and leads me to the end.  i am out of the tunnel of doom.  she gets on this bike, but i make sure i tell her thank you, but i say Gracias.  then i say the english Thank You, and she understands and says in thick accent "your welcome".
I look around and notice i am in this main city area.  the olympics arena is reaaly close.  i find my choir from ole miss and they are all walking to the sanctuary next to the arena.  i get in line and follow them.  when we walk into the building, it is glittering with mosaic tile and amazing lights and candles.   it is soooo pretty.  as part of some ceremony we are attending, we have to "wash clean"  in the showers of shiva.  we have to take off most of our clothes and get soaking wet, then return to the front of the sanctuary.  my stepmom, Annettte is there to take my things while i shower.  I am very untrustworthy.  I dont want my things to get "lost"  or her to leave the place.  anyway, immediately after i give her my clothes, i catch up with the rest of the choir, who are all in this big shower thing, so i run in, with a big t-shirt on and boyshort underwear (which is acceptable).  and then we're done.  so i try to find annette, but she is gone.  i go into the next room, not caring that i'm ni my underwear, and find annette, and my dad.  my dad is sitting in the pew-like thing and annette is standing with some strange grin on her face.  i grab my clothes and ask where my pants are.  she said i didnt give her any and cackles.  i get really pissed off and run out with my purse and bra (on).  i realize i am in the center of dubai with no pants on, but underwear.  these american and british guys ride up with their cars, harrassing me saying they want to slap my ass and things like that.  I decide to run into the olympics arena.  im scared and alone, when i go up to the second floor.  (in my dream, singing is a part of the olympics.  yes, competitive singing) anyway, as im kinda hiding in this corner, (although you cant really hide, you're at the Olympics!) I see a familiar face peeking into the auditorium.  i freak out because it is

Michael Stipe!!!!!!!!!! (from REM for those who didnt know)
anyway, i get really excited and go up to him i give him this little kid finger poke on his side and say, "Michael?"  he turns and looks down, b/c he is tall in my dream.  i tell him, "You're music has made my life" but i'm all stuttery and nervous.  he somehow understands that i've had a horrible day and i'm scared, so he hugs me and wraps me up in his tan coat.  he exudes this warmth that i can't explain.  going from such a hard day with rude mean people,  to such a loving, understanding person like him, makes me cry and all i can do is look up at his amazing eyes.  he looks down when he can, but he is leading us through the crowd of people, my arms are kinda stuck under his, but i am comfortable that way.  we are going up a couple of floors (stairs).  but as he is taking glances at me, he says "I wish i could see your eyes longer, for yours are conquering mine"  or something along those lines.  (he says that b/c we are still moving through a lot of people and he is leading the way.)  we make it upstairs, and there are still a lot of people, but faaar less than the previous floors.  as he lets me go, i lose him in the crowd, but know he is close.  then my mom comes up and says "i had no idea you were into older men"  then she kind of disappears, and michael comes back with his green hat.  he says, "good," (after he locates me) "i thought you were gone".  and then i wake up.

i falll asleep again, but all i dreamt about was annette and bad dad things. rawr

I have a Workers Compensation Board hearing in an hour and a half.
What a mixture of nervousness and excitement.

I think it takes a couple of weeks though before I find out what the outcome is.
Crossing my fingers for the best.
