Somedelle wanted a count down to Christmas the next episode of Dr. Who that she could post to her LJ profile, but all she was finding was JS ones. Livejournal strips Javascript so that wouldn't work. So she tasked me with finding her one that would work. Eventually I found one of those graphical tickers with cheesy graphics. It was okay, but I knew if I could find the code to make it work that I could do much much better. So after some hair pulling and a lot of rewording search queries in Google (something I am really awesome with) I found what I needed.
A PHP script that generated an image that updated every day and allowed me to use my own images. So now we're offering it to you to.
Example of what the ticker looks like:
What the ticker can be used for:
Anything actually, but the graphics are all Who related, so counting down to say...the next episode of Stargate Atlantis would probably be silly.
The Fine Print:
This ticker only works if you hot link the image, yes this one time I'm saying it's okay you can go ahead and do that. However because of the way the domain is set up this ticker will only work here on livejournal. You can't post it anywhere else, the server will deny the call for the graphic.medelle and I'll be watching the bandwidth for the server, if it looks like something is gonna tank we'll pull the plug. She's paying the bills, she gets to decide when and if that happens.
Just use some discretion where you put the thing--maybe display it one place, like your profile and thats it.

Once you have the URL (note the URL will not have an extension on the end. This is okay, it will still work) for your banner use this code:
