| About: | ![]() Everybody’s got a grasp of the big picture here, right? Some of us take pictures and post them to the community, while others use those pictures as inspiration or springboards to write stories of 1000 words or less, which are then posted to the community too. Then we all pause a moment to ‘ooh’ and ‘ah’ at our collective brilliance. Simple concept, right? Okay, here’s where it gets a little tough. I’m going to run you through the nuts and bolts of posting your work and being an active part of the community. It goes without saying that if you’re a member, you should contribute something, whether it be snazzy pictures or jazzy prose or even just feedback for the people who are putting their work out here for you. Hey, if you’re feeling up to it, you could even do all three. For the photographers: Keep your images down to a manageable size. Let’s start with the completely arbitrary limit of 500 pixels on any side. Always post your pictures behind a cut. If the management sees a picture posted to the community that isn’t behind a cut, they may do the cut thing for you… but it’s way more likely they’ll just delete your post. They’re cutthroat like that. Post each picture in its own thread. Title your photo threads with “Photo”, followed by a title for your image. For example: “Photo – My Dog Joe”. Don’t flood the group with a dozen pictures at once. Give people time to be inspired by them. You’ll have to provide your own photo hosting. If you don’t already have somewhere to host your pics, try http://www.photobucket.com. It’s free and user-friendly. If you’re not sure how to post your photos on LJ, check out this handy FAQ. Try to post a picture that tells a story or evokes a feeling that can be used in a story. And don’t get despondent if nobody writes a story about your picture. Your time will come. For the writers: Stories or scenes must be no longer than 1000 words. Stories or scenes must be inspired by a photo on the site. This isn’t the place to post random flash fiction. Post stories in their own threads. Title the thread “Story”, followed by the title of your story. For example: “Story – Joe vs. the Garden Hose”. Insert the picture that inspired the story at the top of the thread, and put it all behind an LJ cut. If you’re not sure how to post photos on LJ, check out this handy FAQ. For the reviewers: Feel free to give abundant feedback whenever and wherever you find something in the community worth feedbacking about. Constructive criticism is good. Rampant dickery will get you ostracized. | |
