ANNOUNCEMENT: This year's projects

Tears of the Phoenix's next project will be an anthology to raise money for Darien Book Aid, a literary charity that supplies books to Peace Corp volunteers who need them to teach literacy.
We are accepting art, photography, illustrations, fiction and poetry. We have collected prompts from volunteers at Darien Book Aid and they can be found here. These are for inspiration only and do not HAVE to be used.
Deadline for this project:
Stories, poetry and drabbles: June 1st
Art and Illustrations: July 1st
We also are taking submissions for our new literary magazine "INK." We accept art, photography, illustrations, comics, poetry, fiction, non-fictiion and memoir. Our first edition's theme is "Beginnings and Endings." We don't have a deadline for this project yet, but we'd love to have an edition out before the end of the year, so please consider us if you have anything that fits.
Lastly, we had so much fun working with Harry Potter fans that we are again putting out a niche anthology, this time with Wizard Rock
musicians supplying the prompts (they are wacky, let me tell ya!) and asking fans to write and contribute art. Those prompts can be found here.

PLEASE HELP US SPREAD THE WORD!! WE WANT AS MANY TALENTED ARTISTS, POETS AND WRITERS AS WE CAN!!

This is my favorite part:
Tears shed by a phoenix are used in "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" to heal terrible wounds. The anthology was called "Ripple Effect," to signify the chain reaction that comes from a raindrop, a puddle, a broken levee, a flood, a drowned city, a rebirth, an idea, a book.
The anthology varied Katrina's theme of loss and tragedy with action, adventure, romance, comedy, fantasy and triumph.

"Ripple Effect" is being promoted and sold! Just the beginning, I'm sure! But check out what rachelcaine posted about us.
And the New Orleans library just placed a large order to sell at a Fundraiser! And they made a post about the books on theneworleans LJ here.
We're still hoping to get down there sometime in the next year to do readings--if any of you are interested in reading, we'll keep you posted--and to promote it even more. So far though, we're really happy with how well it is selling with just the word of mouth that is happening!

Deadline Is Extended

Just wanted you all to know that we have changed the schedule of the Wrock and Read book. We want everyone to be able to have the time to create something original, fun and or moving for this anthology. We want it to be GLORIOUS! And to do so, we need to push back the schedule and continue to get the word out. Any help any of you can give us on that front would be muchly appreciated! Tell your friends!!

Just a friendly reminder that the deadline for authors/poets is November 1st. If you are working on something but don't think you'll have it done in time, please contact us and we'll see what we can do.
Artists--good news, we have extended your deadline to December 1st. If you're looking to illustrate stories, please let us know and we'll see if we can make that happen!

Artists in Search of Authors and Vice Versa...And New Staffer!!

Some of our artists expressed interest in working with an author in illustrating their stories. Since the deadline for both art and writing is the same date, the only way we can do this is if writers either:
A.) Submit their work early
We have a few, thank you!!
B.) Let us know that you are writing something and tell us what prompt you are using and allowing us to hook you up with an artist.
If you'd like to do either of these things, let us know--the sooner the better as artists need time to create just as the writers do!

If you'd like to be contacted to illustrate stories, please let us know. You of course can (and are encouraged) to create something directly from the prompts!! There are some very creative prompts!!
OH YEAH--ALMOST FORGOT
We have a new staffer! Kim Kiser (who did the awesome back cover among others in Ripple Effect) has agreed to help us out as Assistant Artist Director!

We want to make sure that everyone hears about us, so that not a single person who wants to participate doesn't because they didn't know about the project. So here we are, nearly a year after launching our first book, ready to do it again.
Some of our favorite Wrockers have offered up creative prompts to inspire writers and artists to use their talents to help others by creating original works for an anthology, which will benefit Book Aid International. We are accepting submissions of original art, poetry, drabble, flash fiction, and short stories through November 1, 2008.
We will be offically launching the project on Monday, September 1st. But since we love you all special and we hope that you will all consider submitting again, we want to share them with you ahead of time.
For our first set of prompts we go to Tonks and the Aurors

Creativity Fest and Sneak Peek to Next Project!

crackwhore_muse will be once again hosting a 48 hour Creativity Fest! Friday August 29th at 10 PM (EST) we will begin giving prompts every hour for 48 hours. Both fiction and art are accepted and encouraged and it can be either original or Fan works from any fandom.
Some of the prompts we will be using are from the collection of prompts Tears of the Phoenix
has collected for their next project. The project will officially be announced Monday September 1st. This will be a sneak peek for members and past contributors to get inspired by the truly odd, awesome and clever prompts we have.
You will of course not have to use them...will not have to submit them if you choose to create something original with them and should feel absolutely no pressure of any kind! We just think they are freakin' hysterical...and who knows, you might be inspired! That's all...
P.S. You will have to joincrackwhore_muse to participate as the entries will be f-locked so we can work on things that someday very soon can be published and sold for charity...or if not that... we'll be posting rough-sleep deprieved drafts!

I am holding in my hands the first proof of the hardcover edition of "Ripple Effect!"
It looks AMAZING!!!!! Pictures will be forthcoming, because the flat shot of the cover on the web site does not do it justice!
I'm so overwhelmed right now. I've worked on several books and countless journals, but none actually brought tears to my eyes like seeing this one for the first time did. There is always that moment of joy at seeing your work in the completed form, but this book was my baby. It was the center of my life every day for the past four months and to see it bound in linen with a shiny, beautiful dust jacket instead of scattered pages all over my living room... words cannot describe it.

crackwhore_museI am not exactly sure what we're doing (I am just along for the ride), but I am assured it will be much fun.
With prompts every hour and probably a drink to go with them, it's sure to be...well....interesting. I hear there are also prizes involved.
All types of writing and artwork in any genre; fan works (any fandom) and/or original works are welcome. The point is to just get creative and have some fun. So drop by, contribute or just check out what others are doing. The journal is friends-locked so everyone is free to post whatever they like.
