cupcakes
I've seen a bunch of bakeries and such in the chestnut/walnut st. area near my job. Can anyone recommend the best one at which to buy a birthday cupcake for a friend?

I don't know about cupcakes, but Yann at 18th and Sansom has amazing little french pastries. And if you really want to go upscale, Miel at 17th and Walnut has even better french pastries, but they're more expensive.

If you want real true cupcakes, then there is a little place at 16th and Sansom -- right across from Joe's Pizza -- but I've never tried them.

nope. if I'm going for sugar, I go to Miel or Yann.

The place at 16th and sansom...is it the Crema Lita place? I always got work cupcakes at Classic Cake Co., which were awesome, but now it's under construction. They partnered with Crema Lita somehow so you can get those same cupcakes there. They look gooood. And they're pretty big, if I remember correctly.
Good luck!

Yann closed, unfortunately. But I root for Miel, too. There's also a cupcake/cake place on Walnut between 16th and 17th called Buttercup, but I hear the offerings are hit or miss.
