Stephen King - The Dark Tower (final book and entire series)

I finally finished the series. Overall, I feel the series started off strong with three fascinating books, hit a weak and rather pointless middle, and then completely fizzled out. I think this could have been a wicked (and much compressed) trilogy, but seven books spanning 30 years...too much.

My overall impressions of Stephen King as a writer are:

+ He's got crazy, inventive ideas
- He tries to use too many of these ideas in one plot, and it becomes messy
+ His descriptions are brilliant, particularly of the horrific
- He is far too long-winded, it takes him forever and a day to get to the point (see: Wizard and Glass...Roland and his comrades spent half the book discussing their upcoming batlle, sneaking into town to spy, retreating back to their HQ to discuss the plan some more, going back to town to spy, retreating, discussing, spying, retreating, discussing...)
- He attempted a story of epic proportions that became too big for him, and he eventually gave up

My really long rants follow, more to get it off my chest than for anyone else's reading enjoyment ;)

Since we got back from our trip, we've gone out to do things almost every day. We went out to dinner most nights - Horizons, Blue Sage, VB (twice), the bakery, Pad Thai, the Thai place in Princeton, and others.. We went out to a couple of haunted house things this weekend. Had visitors other nights. I had to go to my mom's to do some computery things Saturday. Lots of stuff. I haven't really had a true break from people for a while.. Bill is out right now so I have a little me-time. Not as much as I'd like (a whole day of nobody! or just him!) but it's a good start.

I *still* have a bunch of things I wanted to put on etsy, but we've been so busy I haven't even had a chance to take pictures. SIGH.

I think I need to go put on some sweatpants.

I ask you... nay, BEG you... never again to write a female character, or any side plots involving love. Just stick to the bug-eyed monsters, k? You seem to understand them much, much better.

last night you rocked so hard that this morning my ears are still ringing. You played everything I knew I wanted to hear and a few things that surprised me with how good they were live (I always thought "Me Vs. You in Love" was never really that good, but i think I was wrong). Plus your new song "Alleycat" is aaaaaaaaaaaaaamazing.

Just work on that opening act, please. They were totally underwater pill-taking music, and I didn't like it.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO Josh !!!
So yesterday was Josh's 26th birthday and we went to Baltimore for the weekend. It was super amazing. We got the best Bed and Breakfast - our room was called the Equestrian and had horse ridding shit all over it. We went to the zoo, drank festive beers, went to the pop art museum, and ate pie. Best time ever.
Side note: He also is really okay with me taking his picture and saying his name. I have no idea why, but I don't mind.
I feel like some more meaningful lj post might be coming.
