Does anyone know anything about this...?
...And is it giving anyone else a headache?

http://imdb.com/title/tt1066288/

It seems to me that Phantom is like this big beautiful tree and every dog in Hollywood feels the need to piss on it.  I mean seriously... is ONE faithful film so hard to ask?  I mean, it seems to me (and I know I'm not alone here) that they haven't been remotely close since 1925.

srsly.  W.T.Fuck?

...that hurts my soul on so many levels.

It's like all of those novels published off of the real book. Every now and then you get a decent one, or even a great one [I really did love Phantom] but most of them are just horribly written, somehow published fanfiction.

Kristen? Eric? That alone made me cringe.

Oh, all right. I read the plot synopsis. Even still -_- Why must this amazing, beautiful story be turned into this?

the only thing I found remotely amusing was that Raoul has become "Raymond."

for some reason I found that funny.

I second your comment about Phantom, but that seems to be the only prequel/retelling that's of any value at all (at least that I've come across.)

LULZ! On POTO.com, Woosley promised this would be the one true and faithful adaptation of Leroux's novel. I see how much he's followed up on his promise...

oh lord. :-P

that's all I'm asking for-- is a faithful adaptation. just one. and there are little things about several of the films that I do like, truly. but just once lets do it honestly. I don't care if there's some kind of creative twist, just get the damn story right! :-P

*sigh*

No, I didn't know anything about it. Says he tried to do a faithful adaptation, but then "took the advice of his girlfriend" and changed it up. So now it's just like a bad fanfiction.

*sigh*

You need to keep an open mind. Just because it's not an exact copy of the novel doesn't mean it's going to be horrible.

Who knows? Maybe it will be horrible, maybe it'll be great. Either way, give it a chance.

IAWTC. When I first heard about it I thought it sounded very interesting and had potential.

You bring up a very valid point, here, don't get me wrong-- I'm open to creativity and trying to see things from all sides. I just want one movie to tell it right. I was just very let down after seeing "Gaston Leroux's" in front of it, you know? I would be happy if a film took a different approach so long as--just for once-- the whole story is done correctly. you know what I mean?

Yeah I don't think it sounds all that awful. The original story has already been adapted so many millions of times that at least they are bringing something new to the table.

It doesn't sound nearly as cringe inducing as "THe Phantom Of Manhattan". I really hope ALW will come down from his acid trip soon and realize no one wants that piece of trash brought to the stage.

I'm okay with the story being experimented with to a degree-- but nt when it says "Gaston Leroux" in front of it! LOL

I agree about Webber. I saw someone had a LJ icon of Gaston Leroux with a caption that said "ALW can kiss my ass."

Ahh. I didn't know they were still crediting it as Leroux's work. Yeah thats pretty silly.

lol!! Props to whoever made those! Although I do love the first musical, I really hope ALW doesn't cheapen it with his attrocious sequel idea.

I don't know that it's going ANYWHERE, if that is of any consolation to you..
Points in our favor,-

A complete cast of total unknowns? Not even a "D" list star in there at ALL?
Fandango lists Nothing for it.
The current release date on the IMDB listing is MONDAY the 31st of March, 2008- not a standard day for anything to drop, really.
Also- the production company has apparently pushed back the "Release" date - according to their website - to "Winter, 2008"- and the SAME website, (Besides being of very dull design,) shows an image that clearly says "Winter, 2007"

And there isn't so much as a squeak in the entertainment rags? This also points to either Direct-to-video or extremely limited release, hoping to build up buzz and gain a wider release.

Oh, and one more thing? After enduring that "Trailer" ... It'll get thrown out of Sundance with extreme prejudice- if it gets that far at all...

I WILL Add that it's an interesting premise, and done RIGHT- it could be every bit as poignant and tragic as the Phantom we all know and love... Especially if it echoes across time to STILL end the same way now as then.

These guys ain't doing it right...

Oh- and it looks at though- except for little things- there hasn't been an update to this site in months. The "Soundtrack archive"? Yeah- promises new content every few weeks and the last entry was December, 2007. There ARE no other entries.

thanks-- that does make me feel better :-)

Sundance's probable reaction will, in all liklihood, strangle this to a straight to video release, at least?

"strangle this straight to video release,..."

IF it even gets that far, I suspect that preliminary screeners for the BIG film festivals like that have SOME standards, at least. They'll probably laugh it right out, if they don't TP the trees with the film...

Oh lord have mercy...
Ok, as someone who entered the fandom by way of the 2004 movie, I really enjoy several of the films. (Charles Dance's being the best IMO) But this...THIS. Visual fanfiction. Who shells out money to film this stuff?

I saw the one since from the book and was like not bad then saw trailer and about died. So bad. The one thing that bothered me was i thought i had been to those locations then realized it was filmed in the town i used to go to college in.

Erm, this is, as far as I know, a fan film (phan philm?) and not the first one to make it to IMDB. It's not intended for theatrical release, so I'm not sure what all the fuss is about.

Sorry for butting in, it's just not all that unusual to me, I guess.
