After watching The Dark Knight at the Metreon with my cousin and his fiancée, I was able to top off my evening (or is it early morning?) with the two-hour season finale of Avatar: the Last Airbender. All in all, my weekend has turned out pretty good. TDK lives up to the hype (watch it! it's been a long time since I left the movie theater as satisfied as I was when it was over) as did Avatar. Under the cut are my thoughts on the Avatar finale. Please forgive me if there are repetitions in my post-finale thoughts.

Hello. I went away to Cornwall for a week. Well, part of that was spent travelling, but essentially. It was lovely. The weather even came good for most of it. I got a tan and everything. I also managed to get ill on the second night I was there, and spent the rest of the holiday coughing and spluttering, but there you go. I went with mum, who is also lovely, and we got back on Friday. I stayed overnight at my parents', saw my sister and nephews, then came back to Nottingham yesterday.

When I got back, I went out and saw Wall-E and The Little Shop of Horrors at the local Playhouse consecutively, just because. Little Shop of Horrors was fantastic. Honestly. I wasn't holding out much hope, because I'd been disappointed by James Son of James, which I was really looking forward to, and because the flyer looked like something a highschool play might put out. But it was great. The sets were brilliant, the singing was brilliant, the girls on the street who kept singing about things were brilliant. Audrey was brilliant. Seymour was very good. The dentist dude was great. The fact that the actor kept turning up again as EVERYONE ELSE WHO EVER TRIED TO SEDUCE SEYMOUR was brilliant. It's probably not very appropriate to laugh when the dentist talks about all the things he's going to do to Seymour's mouth. But there you go. On the way out I discovered that one of the most socially awkward things you can do is to catch a young girl's hair on a button on your bag as she stands with her parents, then stand for a minute or two trying to get it off without pulling her hair out while said adults watch you. Which is a lot of fun, naturally.

I came back to find that some of the roses I have growing in an ornamental watering can on my window bottom are covered in web and tiny spider-like insects. I want to do something about that, but I'm not sure what. I'm probably not going to read back through everyone's posts for the week because - no. I know that things have been happening for certain people on my flist though, and I am thinking of them. If anything important has happened to anyone else or there's been a sudden ficathon for a character I love or something, you may want to comment here or email me or something.

Just saw Dark Knight. It was really good. Definitely one of the best superhero movies to come out, if not the best one ever. Actually, its a pretty good movie period, not just of the superhero genre. ( more talk under the cut )

Just watching one of the Hellboy animated movies while typing this up. I always thought Niles was the voice of Abe Sapien, according to imdb he's not. They also list the guy who does the voice in the live movies as doing the voice in the cartoons, but they sound nothing alike. Its so confusing!

I come bearing Heroes Fic Recs! Usually I wait until I have more fics lined up before I rec, but these were just screaming REC ME REC ME REC ME and couldn't wait.

• The End of the Beginning, Part 1 by saestina. Spoilers for Heroes Season 3 Promos. Claire, Peter, Hiro, Sylar.
  
  A possible beginning for Volume 3, in which our heroes' worlds are turned upside down and they must prevent the possibility of an even darker future. OMG. Dark, dark, dark, and complex and plotty and with a wonderful Claire voice. Just awesome.
  
  
• Healing, Part 1 and Part 2 by 47_trek_47. Set after the Season 2 finale. Nathan/Peter/Claire. Mostly Claire/Peter, Nathan/Peter, Nathan and Claire. NC-17.
  
  Summary: Maybe Claire can save them both.
  
  I can't rec this fic enough. Amazing characterization of all 3 Petrellis and their relationships with each other. And Peter is just *broken* and Nathan is *Nathan* and Claire is finding new ways to connect to them both that are both joyful and heartbreaking. There are so many scenes in there that were on my personal wishlist for the show itself, and they're so well executed that I'm now kind of preparing myself to be disappointed by the actual canon. Hee.
  
  One last note: the fic is NC-17. Now, to be 100% honest, I don't usually read porn or very explicit sex in fanfiction. But even if it's not your kind of thing, either, I still think you should check this fic out for the rest of it--the dialogue, the quieter moments of connection, because I promise you that you will cry. And laugh. And want to read it all over again.
  

Went to the beach today...and what a bust. I was actually a nice little outing but we couldn't go into the water because there were so many jellyfish. There were so many dead ones just littering the beach. I picked a couple up, held them in my hand. Then we started to see some live ones and it was clear that we werent going to be able to stay in the water. Whne we got there a buch of people were leaving and saying that it was because they had been stung a few times.

Though it was a blistering hot day and too icky to stay at the beach, it was nice to hang with the family.

I just got back from seeing The Dark Knight. This is the part where I pretend to be a film critic, only not really, because I know nothing about production.
